What I liked for the kiyoshi training bit in the original is that yes, sokka only had one day tops that he spent with the kyoshi warriors, but the point of the training wasn’t so sokka could become stronger, but that he could be humbled because he was openly sexist towards them due to his upbringing. It’s like the show had a statement to make and didn’t try to forcibly check a list of plot points to get to.
it was for him to become stronger as a person not a as warriror
What I loved about the show as a whole is that it showed that women in this world are genuinely powerful. It doesn't feel forced
Nicktoon: 10/10 perfect
Netflix: 5/10
2010: 0/10 a waste of time
I dunno 2010 at least has the benefit of being under 2 hours.
At the cost of cutting out _so much._
Well, the original TV adaptation is in all honesty kinda more like a 7/10, Korra’s a 4/10, I do not yet have a ranking on the Netflix adaptation, but the movie is a 2.3/10.
@-ONeill That was the world's first hint that Shyamalan was a shithead director.
It was a perfectly fine film but then he comes along and literally cuts out all the jokes and all of the content.
Toon Disney was 10/10 as well, loved me some Super Monkey Robot Team Hyper Force Go
I had this streaming from my Nokia cell phone in my pocket on my no name earbuds while at work. When you went on your rant about which rectangle people prefer I could not have related any more if I tried. Love y'all's material. Keep it up.
I’ve been listening to your Fact Fiend videos in the car for years, and was sad to hear you were ending the channel, but now discovering this is PERFECT. The Wiki videos were always some of my favorites. Cheers 🕺
40:29 this is a minor nitpick but All Might isn’t American his name is Toshinori Yagi he just lived in America for a while to escape the big bad which since he started as a hero in America he is basically a walking tribute to the silver age of America heros
Being American has nothing to do with where you were born or who you were born to.
Nope. Being American is like having herpes. It can be anyone from anywhere and they can never get rid of it.
@RHCole Spending a few years in a country and going back home doesn't change your nationality. It would be insane as an American to move to another country for a couple of years to train in your career, move back home to America, spend a decade back in America and then claim you're no longer American because you went to college overseas.
@@kennytheawkwarddonut9137hey buddy you should jump occasionally otherwise all these jokes are gonna keep going over your head
Thank you for all the content you all make
Wait, I thought the twist in Unbreakable was that Samuel Jackson's character was the evil mastermind the whole time and caused major tragedies to try and find super powered people. He learns he has superpowers early on which leads to him saving those kids and catching that one guy played my M Night himself. If he "never uses his super powers" then I guess that scene never happened. Also Bruce Willis dies near the END of Glass, and the twist in that movie is that there IS a secret organization that has been suppressing these powered people for ages either by convincing them they don't have powers or by killing them if that doesn’t work. Come on Karl.
The thing that gets me about the live action show was every scene where ANY of them got any character growth just kind of disappeared. The secret tunnel scene upset me not having aang there
Sixth Sense makes perfect sense, like the kid says, ghosts only see what they want to see. Bruce Willis spent all that time overlooking all these obvious clues, like watching a movie, he just assumes he did all those things off-screen, like he tries to open his office door and is just in the office next scene. He just assumes he ate, and went to the bathroom, on autopilot at some point.
Yeah. The kids awas his therapist.
I am quite looking forward to the Destiny wiki weekdayend... probably won't happen for a few months yet though.
The only thing I'll say about the console wars stuff is that each system has a thing it does better over the others.
Xbox has its focus on multiplayer games and Game Pass. They've been the multiplayer system since Halo 2.
PlayStation has single player experiences like God of War and The Last of Us (among others) that it doesn't share with other systems (the PC port idea has only recently started being good)
Nintendo is the couch co-op/party game machine. It also has some really good single player experiences like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, but it flourishes with things like Smash, Mario Kart, and Mario Party.
I wouldn't necessarily say that choosing just one depending on what you like to do is wrong, but those are the outlines I have used when describing the differences to my non-gamer friends/colleagues.
As someone superfixated with very specific topics that are not really in the zeitgeist or in the popular conscience of mainstream media; anime, gamer and comic book and superhero enthusiasts really don't know how good they have it with their personal likes being so mainstream that its basically being pumped out every second of every day, there's literally something for every like and there can be so much discussion and connection around these topics with others and gatekeeping is just a deterrent from this phenomenon.
It's really sad to live in a world where you can't really relate to others or talk that much about something you deeply care about because not everybody in interested as much as you are about a particular or specific topic.
People, just enjoy it while it lasts, because it sometimes is something that doesn't come around not even once in a lifetime for some of us.
1:29:09 Um, aktshually: if you picked Blu-ray over HD-DVD, you didn't win, you just didn't lose.
Nobody wins these things except the corporations 😢
I got time on my hands sadly. So I might go back and count the win numbers for yall. 😂
Karl, if you haven’t heard of this game called rumble vr, then look into it asap as its a game where you fight purely with earthbending. It looks so crazy lmao
Karl's breakdown of "Rectangles" fucking sent me.
Some of us can still see downvotes (with Firefox add-ons). I only really find them useful sometimes when looking for videos about how to do something though... I use the ratio as a sort of estimated success rate when choosing which to watch (and then make sure to vote it up or down based on my own success with it).
The Netflix series was let down by the creators being given just 8 episodes. You can tell that everyone involved loved the original and wanted to do it justice, but since they only had 8 episodes and no confirmation of a season 2, they really had to just power through from plot point to plot point.
If the creators were given more time, I'm certain people would have gotten the show we were hoping for. I still loved it, though!!!
I get a bit of leeway whenever people ask me about my rectangle, it comes with a stylus that stores in the phone and is literally the only one with that feature. The only other feature that matters to me is storage space, otherwise its like karl said, you call your mom on it and thats really what matters.
"Avatar: The Last Airbender' received more than 22.2 million views in just four days after its premiere on February 22 on Netflix and became the most successful original drama on the streamer." Is an article that sadly says this will get another season, (sadly 1899 will not :( and it is NOT an original drama, how is it legal for them to lie like that?
I thought the twist for Unbreakable was that Mr. Glass was the bad guy.
It was pretty obvious throughout the movie that Bruce Willis had superpowers. One of which is that he can see the bad deeds of people he touches, and at the end of the film he shakes Sam Jackson's hand and sees that he caused all those disasters because he was trying to find someone with powers that would survive them, one of those instances being the train crash at the start of the film
That's what I was thinking as well! Saying the twist is that he does has powers feels like he stopped watching halfway through
"I don't give a fuck" is the best response to someone still trying to carry on the gaming rectangle wars. Lucas seems to have terrible luck with his PC gaming rectangle.
Yeah "i dont care" as they then proceeded to complain pc is too complex and consoles are simpler and run longer before being obsolete
I agree that "console wars" are silly but people will always make comparisons over their preferences
I was a die hard Nintendo fan as a kid but I also fell in love with the Final Fantasy series. When FF7 came out as a Playstation exclusive I switched to Sony's consoles so I could continue to enjoy the series. After the PS3 came out though I saved up and bought a good gaming PC and haven't bought a console since. As for phones I don't need all the bells and whistles so I just get the $40-$70 Walmart specials and since I'm not constantly on it I just use pre-paid cards and only spend like $30 bucks a month. Been thinking of checking out that $15 a month plan from Mint Mobile though. :D
I'm not sure what you mean with "The Sixth Sense"? If you rewatch it, you notice that there's 100 little signs that nobody is interacting with Bruce Willis. Rewatching it makes you go "Ohh that's why he drove off. Ahh that's why the table is only set for 1 person and not two. Ahh when he said it's cold that's what he meant! Ahh now that conversation takes a whole new meaning now. Ohh that's why she isn't looking at him here!" There's a lot of foreshadowing. What about it doesn't make sense? There's a lot of stuff that's contrived.. like why was Cole even needed to save the little girl? If she could push the box with the tape out from under the bed, why couldn't she push it when her father was in the room? or push it all the way to her father? ...but it does make sense.
On niche interests being popularised (e.g. Marvel movies), I can see how it would frequently be infuriating for fans seeing works of passion they love turned into commodified cash-grab garbage that everyone is now celebrating. Good for those that enjoy it, but it does often come at the direct expense of the established fans and the work itself.
...but of course some people do need to feel special and gatekeepy too.
My favorite exclusive would probably be one on a Nintendo console, since Nintendo is among the few good devs who don't eventually release their games elsewhere. Even then, a lot of my favorites of theirs are ported to multiple Nintendo consoles, so they're not exclusive to just one system...
I'm gonna go with Pikmin 4. I've completed that game 8 times at this point, and being a Switch release by Nintendo I know it's not on multiple systems. I don't know if it's my _favorite_ favorite exclusive, but it might be. It's an exclusive and I really like it.
The even dumber thing about the live action series is if you add up the episode lengths of the live action to the cartoon it is the same amount of time. And the original has intro and previously on and credits you can cut out so you had more time and did less with it
Metal and bloodbending implies the existence of fartbending
Gross. But cool.
I'm sure it exists, but is it an extension of airbending or firebending?
alternatively known as the art of internal combustion.
Bonebending
To your point about how tv shows are not made the same way anymore, i was watching the live action tv show with my wife and i could have sworn that it was playing too fast. It felt like everyone was talking at 1.25x speed. I even stopped and checked it!
I wonder if there is a wiki for the dj "wicki-wicki" noise
sad part is that the runtime of the animation and the live action is almost the same time
1:42:36 I nearly leaped out my seat when you said that! FutureCop LAPD is one of my favourite PS1 games of all time. My friend Paul and I would always play Vs mode against each other, he would go around and grab the side bases while I basically just strafed around everywhere in hover-mode blowing up his shit and holding the middle.
Good times.
Both good discussions, but I think I found the Avatar discussion the most interesting. So that wiki wins this week with me
I think my favourite game ever is Kid Icarus Uprising. I fucking love that game and I wish it would get a release for a modern console. It'd need some reworking because the controls are weird due to the 3ds only having one C-stick.
It's a pretty straightforward game where you just point and shoot, but the dialogue is just fabulous and so much fun. I'd take any rerelease I can get even if it didn't get any kind of remastering.
Thanks for the enjoyable long content, and a game I like is the PC pokemon fan game, pokemon infinite fusions. Or if you got a ds still somehow, track down fossil fighters. Either the og or champions
1080p is the optimal resolution. It works on small screens, big screens, it's not too expensive on data and it looks great.
720p looks like garbage at times and 2K you genuinely can't tell unless it's both on a big screen and you're unreasonably close.
Absolutely loved LAPD Future Cop back in the 90s.
My one and only time seeing The Sixth Sense was on TV, but I had flipped over to the channel right before it started, and they were playing the same movie twice in a row. So I literally saw the twist ending and then spent the whole film going, "Ah, well that *would* have been cool to not realize yet!"
With every minute of this video I want to rewatch the Avatar cartoon more and more, I think I will finally do it thanks to you :D
1:15:32 - I guarantee that there’s plenty of little insecure men that watch these vids and get worked up over the fact that Lucas’ headphones are pink. Like seriously, why does it matter? I don’t particularly care for the colour pink myself, but all that means is that I wouldn’t buy a pair of pink headphones for myself, it has zero impact on Lucas wearing pink headphones, but there are going to be people out there that will get worked up because he does.and if anything, I think that’s all the more motivation for him to wear them, to deliberately thumb his nose at them and trigger them.
Can we also just appreciate the irony that this video is longer than the actual movie? 😅
That's a tradition when talking about this movie
1:03:00 Emulation isn't piracy, and it's incredibly important for preservation efforts.
You shouldn't disrespect the work people have put into it.
I'm rectangle neutral unless you're a snob, may try to get a rile.
I always wondered if toph could pull specific minerals out of someone's body.
Like X2 when Magneto pulls the iron from a dudes blood in order to escape prison
Obviously Sokka was able to learn to fight like a Kyoshi warrior so quickly because he's a man.

I mean, for me, my dislike of certain rectangles is related to having studied computer engineering. Apple tech is too proprietary and obfuscated, playstation is overpriced for what it does, Nitendo has good quality assurance but suffers from a propriatry focus, and PCs have steep learning curves for understanding hardware customization.
P.s. No comment on xbox, I have never had one.
My favorite videogame when it comes to gameplay is Hollowknight and the one who has Made me feel the most is Undertale, very basic tastes but i never clamed to be a refined person.
The second discusión was the most entretaining to me.
I have never cared abaut console wars, how many exact pixels are in a screen or brands, maybe because i have almost never had the money dor it, but i do have 1 opinión abaut Brands and 1 abaut in we're to play videogames: If you buy almost anything from Apple you either have enough money to not care abaut overpaying or are a pretensious asshole and unless you really want to play the lastest releases or have the huge kind of money that allows You to Buy one of each consoles a bad-average PC is the Best things You can Buy for games because You have acces to most if not all old games ever Made as well as most recent ones, games are cheaper to buy and if You won't have the money to spare for games You can still get most single player games.
I remember seeing cliff curtis in training day where he plays a mexican gangster
I wonder how much adaptation suck comes from the creators being too racist to consider the prospectives of the original.
It is a game that many have talked about before, but will forever remain a favorite of mine. Legend of Dragoon.
My favorite part was when she somehow had all the women setup in perfect view of the lead combat bender and told him to let a bunch of people with no combat experience fight on the front line.
Bruh. Yeah there's the medic that somehow defended his squad from 50 enemy soldiers, but that's the exception.
I ESPECIALLY liked the part where I blinked and suddenly Aang was kneeling in front of the body of his mentor. I didn't even realize they were heading there.
Yeah. Sexism among the superpowered is pointless, but at that point, LET THE TRAINED HEALERS HEAL! Sure, Katara's (barely) learned to fight, but sure she can.
PC *is* the most important rectangle because it lets my favorite 2D talking heads upload and edit videos so that i don't feel alone at 2am
My rectangles are great.
Final Fantasy 14 just open to Xbox and I am happy to have new players for a 10 years old game I still play
I've got to say, I don't like the explanation that Toph is bending the impurities in the metal, because to me that says she's not actually bending the metal and it goes against what Guru Patik says in that very same scene.
The way I've always interpreted is that Toph used the impurities in the metal to connect with it. Like, metal is just erath that has been refined. There's no reason to believe that an earth bender cannot also bend metal other than we as humans believe metal to be its own thing distinct from the earth that it came from.
Same goes with blood bending, they're not bending the water in the blood. Blood is just another form of water that can be bended. It's just that you don't see it and it's inside another person, so you need the power of the moon to overcome those obstacles.
And that is also how I believe the first avatar should have mastered the 4 elements, by achieving enlighten and realizing to a spiritual level that the 4 elements are all the same.
What gets me is that there are actually some benefits to live action... the show just doesn't use any of them. You can ground a lot more live action. Subtle facial expressions and body movements, physicality without the cheats of animation, and yet that's not what either of these adaptations did. You've only got one movie or two hours? Great six seasons or films, each covering half a season. Give the human elements more room to breath, and spend your limited budget making fewer fight scenes better. You're going to have to reorder stuff and cut some things, but that's fine.
Season one part one, start off at the south pole, then norther air temple as our act one. Act two we do the earth bender prison on an oil rig into Kyoshi island, finally wrapping up with the storm in our darkest hour, and finishing off strong with the blue spirit. Your season long, or first film arc is the gaang heading north, discovering how bad the war is, and what aang's role is in it now that he's back. We get our darkest hour where he doubts himself, only to come back into his own, as well as humanizing zuko, before the two team up against the greater threat.
Season 2 would start off with the winter solstice two parter, showing aang that there's a ticking clock, as well as establishing that this stretch will be more spiritual. We get Omashu and Bumi, Jeong Jeong the deserter, and pirates in the water bending scroll if we have time, as aang tries to rush his training to mixed results, The mechinist if there is time, to hammer home why the spiritual side is important, before finally ending up at the north pole, for the finale. Your arc this time is about aang's panic, with the moral that he needs to trust in the flow of destiny, coming to meet it, not trying to force it, or run for it. Zuko this time gets to be our enemy, and him and Katara get a big duel, which is nice for the both of them.
If you're going to remake avatar remake the damn thing. The original shouldn't be something that binds you, because you're going to fail to copy it. Use the strengths you have and make something new.
40:29 spoilers for MHA
As a few others have said, All might (Toshinori Yagi) is not an American or Caucasian by nationality or ethnicity, he is Japanese but spent time in America and his suits were designed by
David Shield, an American.
As shown by the names of Cathleen Bate (the American hero) and David Shield, the creators will give American names to American characters so it's unlikely to be an error on their part.
8:28 oh that is a shame that truncation is affecting the storytelling. One of the few times where a few more episodes could have been a good thing.
Why do you have a rectangle that calls my mum? 😢😢
38 years old and still that classics get me 😂
My math may be off, but I'm pretty sure that the netflix ATLA is actually a little bit longer. Yet, it still feels rushed. I think it's an okay show, there was some changes I enjoyed, but there was a lot more changes that I really didnt like.
Bones are calcium, a mineral, so Earthbenders should theoretically be able to bend bone.
Another odd choice the live action show did was that they decided to not have Aang learn water bending. So I'm guessing they're going to off screen train Aang between seasons.
Dakota Johnson said a really interesting thing in an interview after madame web about filmmaking by committee killing the artistry of the medium.
Honestly enjoyed the netflix series. The bending looked 1000x better than the bullshit m. Night did. The fight choreography was great.
The dialogue was too exposition heavy sure, but they did a good job combining different plot points together thematically.
I don't care about the console, I care about the games, and there are two game series(Halo and Gears) on the Xbox I care about and even they have been not great in recent years.
Edit: Share a game I like? If a series counts then Jak, Rachet and Clank, or Sly; if not Dark Alliance 2, Dark Alliance 1 is still good(in my opinion, might be nostalgia but I don't care) I just prefer the second because you aren't limited to what you find, you can make the items you want
Anime means Animated! People gotta get off the OCD BS and just accept that things are fluid.
Mass Effect. There i did it. Oh also Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries. I did it again hehe 🙂
Re: PC gamer rectangles and obsession. They have had to dump so much money and time into customizing their rectangle that they need to think it is best.
And all that expense is why I moved to consoles.
5:58
They did have months of training... they never needed apply their training for battle in anynmeaningfulnway.
The sokka story was to humble sokka. Not the training.
i dont think its about making something better than the original, just something different. for example one piece, in the anime they can make all the wacky abilities and unrealistic combat come alive but a live action version has to do trickery and CGI with all the limitations that has and one piece did an excellent job of doing that. so while its not "better" it does still catch your attention and go "that would look like that in real life"
this is also why i think many other anime adaptations fail. if the anime is very realistic than there is nothing of value by making it live action especially if they get bad actors or a bad script
25:26 yeah. Im not watching 1000 episodes. 58:05 I will always stay true that Microsoft has the better console but I don't like their games. Otherwise I would switch in a heartbeat. 😅 I just wish people just focused more on what they like and being happy with that instead of of shitting on what others like. 1:05:23 exactly.
I thought I'd never watch 1000 episodes either, but watching the live action made me curious...then I started, then I rn out and I'm now fully caught up to the manga!
It's totally worth the ride, I've never encountered any other show that had such an emotional impact on me - joy, sorrow, excitement, dispair, hope it's got them all. There's a reason it got to 1000+ episodes!
1:24 - _gasp_ really? And here I was thinking you’re all just dancing monkeys and we the viewers are the organ grinders.
😜
Karl you need to get a cool pair of headphones like Lucas!
karl
Realized that lol but was waiting for someone to point it out!@@j-bob_oreo
Assassins creed is my favorite
Yes. The movie was that bad.
As a black man ive found that an MC's content of character should be more relatable than the color of their skin so the idea of "representation" in media always seems more racist to me if its not directly driving the story
Also All Might is Japanese he just went to America and trained with an American hero.
@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 several reasons, 1 being that it's usually done as pandering.
2: due the representation being for pandering the characters are often bland and poorly written.
3: often what is represented is surface level and stereotypical.
4: shouldn't someones character and actions be more representative of who they are as a person as opposed to where they're from or look like?
My 2 favor game are both called shit games and I don't care one was anthem and the other is cyberpunk
On thw whole casting thing, i dont think it really matters where the actor is from. It only matters what they look like and how the act. Because thats the fucking job, its called acting. Just casting a person who is the character isnt exactly acting.
Avatar the Last Airbender adaptations are like American politics:
The original is what's possible within the system
The remakes are the democrats and republicans
"Smash that dislike button"
as a fan of dbz, goblin slayer, an other anime...i enjoyed live action Cowboy Bebop more than the anime.
Every review I've seen has rated the Netflix show above the movie. 🤷🏻♀️
