Just a couple to mention are the misinformation and disinformation bill, the social media ban for under 16's that will enable the governments digital ID and the use of face recognition/bio metrics on all aged Australians on a daily basis to access social media platforms.
So how exactly can Australia impose a fine on an overseas social media site and force them to pay? Short answer is they can't. Their jurisdiction and power to tell companies what they have to do ends at their border. They can issue all the fines they want, but they have no power to enforce them or collect them.
I imagine they would enforce it by blocking access to the servers / services if they do not comply with the laws. Similar to how there was the court hearing with the Facebook (Meta) and TikTok CEO on data privacy laws in the US. They threatened to ban tiktok in the entire country if US citizens data was being stored on Chinese soil. This is just the opposite of that. Now Australia wants the companies to capture our IDs.
