The Diablo "you guys got phones?" moment will live in gaming infamy forever
A very tone-deaf statement
Bro, I don’t want to play every game on one device. PC and consoles still exist.
@@danialtarki572all the did was release a mobile game when everyone expected a main line game. They committed the grave sin of "making more than sideline games for their mainline series." The Diablo thing is so overblown and wouldn't exist had that one guy asked the April fools statement
@@SECONDQUESThe Diablo thing isn’t over blown in the slightest. Diablo Immortal is just another example of Blizzard moving away from their core audience of PC players to literally anyone who will give them money.
Especially when you literally don't!
This guy reminds me of a woman from my hometown. Every business that she managed to get control of around here was shut down, went bankrupt, and one even burned to the ground. We always say that she's either cursed or a criminal.
Wait, *burned down*?? How??
I need details dammit!
@@michaelgum97 - Okay, so, one of the places she acquired was a popular town grill. For context on how much people loved that place, people are still talking about it twenty-six years after its demise, trying to petition for a rebuild. Anyway, about a month into her ownership, the whole place went up in flames. The fire department said it was due to faulty wiring, which this lady had "fixed" upon gaining the place. So, she probably hired some sketchy, under-the-table electrician(s). Now, the grill was the second time she'd caused a place to go under in some way, so there were a lot of raised eyebrows. After that, she someone managed to acquire a little thrift shop and dug it into so much debt that they were forced to close. This woman single-handedly took away every small pleasure this small town had, and people are still mad about, lol. I was a toddler when the grill burned down, yet I'm still mad because I remember how good their fry-shakes (sticking fries around the rim of a milkshake) were, lol.
I want to marry you.

This guy was the reason why Japanese games like RPGs, 2D Platformers, certain fighting games or anything with the smell of anime weren't allowed to be released in the U.S. for a while the only good thing that happened was that it lead to the creation of MegaMan Legends/Rockman DASH. Fun fact Rockman 8 Metal Heroes and Rockman X4 weren't originally going to release on the PlayStation in the U.S but because Capcom had a good relationship with Sony Phil bent the rules for Inafune as long as the PlayStation versions of 8 and X4 had exclusive content and as long as Sony got not only exclusive Rockman games but the first 3D Rockman game had to release on the PlayStation.
Really. Man you would think no big companies would hire him after that.
@@soggybubble yeah and even then those games were heavily censored on the PlayStation despite being the "mature" console it's nice to see that nothings changed
Oh shit, that's this guy? Man, fuck him!
Companies owned by american companies is a curse on itself tbh.
And with Japan you get a completely different curse.
With american companies you get the mindset of 'fuck the eastern games lets ruin them' and controveries like Actvision's disgusting male staff and sexual abuse.
with Japanese companies, you have to skirt around being slammed with a copyright violation
Meanwhile Sony of Europe had no issues with any game on the Platform on PS1,PS2/PSP,VITA. Sony USA was so weird they forced games to be sold in Two packs if they had no Extras on PSP/PS2 see Metal Slug 4 and 5. They Rejected 3 saying it wasnt good engough see PSP Breath of Fire 3 too. Then in PS3 era for a while they forced in US region only games with no English Dub to be Digital only. Namco did this with most Anime games on PSP/Vita only in US too.
But Reggie from Nintendo was doing stuff like this too on Wii.3DS,DS, just for US region but on games Nintendo Developed in House.
"Keeping Stadia on life support."

Conspiracy theory: In Dante's Inferno, the very bottom of hell is frozen. He succeeded long, long ago. His goal is to spread discord and chaos wherever he treads
Maybe has succeeded. He’s ruined all he touches. Maybe that’s his game.
13:18 You misunderstand, Phil didnt leave Infogrames BEFORE he could fuck it up. He arrived, saw it was a burning trash fire death spiraling into bankruptcy with release after release of shitty games. He was like tuxedo mask.
"MY WORK HERE IS DONE!"
"But, you didnt do anything."
*vanishes with a Cape flurl*
Honestly, I could see Phil coming back to Infogrames, now named Atari & putting it back into its dark ages.
I disagree
I think he's like Peter Molyneux, he used to have the magic, as Phil did amazing work for the PS1, but the magic went long ago.
Agreed
He, Peter Molyneux, Randy Pitchfork and Tow "just works" Howard, are the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse of the gaming industry.
Of course he’s compared to Peter Molyneux lol
I have never heard a man describe a PS1 in 1994 in such boring terms. 'It's a Risc based mutli polygonal blah blah....'. It was one of my childhood favourites and I now no longer enjoy it after hearing this.
Makes me imagine how boring he would've made the failed Atari Jaguar sound.
it's all down-phil from here...
I get the joke😏
The most elusive man who has done the most damage to major companies. How has nobody else made the connection yet?
Because no one cares
How does he keep getting these jobs seriously. Also considering he was the one to not have the blue ring of death getting fixed in the playstation and it's still impacting PlayStations just gotten worse I think his curse goes even deeper.
When you get enough power in the corporate world you can only fail upwards.
He should take Activision as his next victim
Please. Knowing how twisted this fucked up world is, he would do it so he Uno Reverses the Microsoft deal so that THEY own Microsoft, and he and Bobby procede to devour the rest of the gaming industry.
@@Guymanbot97 meh, I don't think so. They may hire him, but Not in a so high Position again!
Or Atari considering how easy it would be to destroy them since they're a rather poor HALF of a shell of its former self(the other half is Warner Bros. Interactive).
@daraenxd8360
Agreed
The best explanation I can think of why Sony priced the PS3 at $599 at launch is due to the Blu-ray format Sony exclusively owned at the time. Blu-ray was new, fancy, and pricey. Players by themselves were around $200-$250 if I recall. On top of being a Blu-ray player, the PS3 had Internet access and could play CD's. That might explain why the price point was so high. Nintendo's consoles after the Wii are priced low due to them using older technology.
Facts
PS3 was the CHEAPEST blu ray player on the market.
The first player was 1k and they roughly halved in price every couple years, they were still $275-300 for the most part in 2009 even. At $600 the PS3 was a super viable competitor but people were not wanting a home media console at that price tag.
@@BakaVHS It was the first real "all-in-one" console that the Xbox One touted itself as 8 years later.

BTW stellar music choices in this video. The older vids really utilized a ton of my favorites.
Uh oh, looks like the curse has butchered stadia now too, phil strikes again
imma say that the curse of phil harrison is deadlier than we think.
we know the main effect of the curse, if phil is in a position of power, the company makes a spectacular blunder
however, if he isn't in power yet still in the company, the company will be marked for death and will go bankrupt eventually...
the only way a company can get rid of the mark is by doing a fusion dance like it's dragon ball z with another company marked for death (as we seen with atari and infogrames)
😅
That will never work.
Also that is a joke.

Wasn't paying attention to the thumbnail and thought it was peter molyneux
Realistically he only had any real effect on Sony.
The Xbox One was already being made when he joined. As stated in the video, he only did (admittedly quite poor) damage control.
Stadia was dead on arrival. There was never going to be any success there.
Has anyone considered the possibility that Phil is doing this intentionally? I mean, is it all really bad luck and ineptitude, or are these the calculated schemings of a man bent on an industry's collapse?
I'd say it's a calculated scheme of his handlers. He's likely just a pawn in the game of corpo dipshits.
The Phil Spencer part didn't age well.
Why does phil look like bald todd howard?
Hahahaha
Looking at phil Harrison I can’t help but be reminded of how Paul hamon got into wrestling just by bullshiting people into thinking he had ton of experience. Or how orson wells got his first acting gig by convincing an Irish acting trope he was a big deal in America. I wouldn’t be surprised if before working for PlayStation he hadn’t even heard of video games. He just bullshited his way to the top over and over again
I can't believe that to this day, in 2023, the PlayStation 3 still has no games
Memes that aged really badly lol.
Same thing with PS5.
Elon Musk / Todd Howard of the gaming industry.

Okay. To be fair to Microsoft, at least they made their E3 presentation only about games, which is more than I cn say for Sony's. Say what you will about the dunking Sony gave Microsoft at the end of their 2013 E3, but around the middle, they had a big chunk of movie talk with Sony Pictures.
These two are lucky E3 2021's press conferences that weren't by the ones from the big 3 that participated or devolver were so bad they even make Nintendo's E3 2015 digital event look like their 2004 conference
You should definitely invite this man into your YT channel. Just to see how it goes it terms of the view lol

Stadia was so obscure to me. The marketing was barely there.
only thing i remember is that awful ad
It literally was a cost reduction. It was a cost of manufacturing reduction. Price cuts come with loss in proft per unit. Cost reduction is about the actual cost of manufacturing. This means Sony still made the same about of money (negative amounts because its a console and they make money with licensing) but everything was scaled down.
When you bought a reduced price ps3 you got an entirely different product that had less features and removed an entire systems worth of backwards compatibility.
This is different than saying "i will sell you the same product for cheaper." They are saying "i will sell you an inferior product for cheaper." The success of this is (in my opinion) where the xbox series s comes from, and the digital only editions of consoles.
He's like the Alex Kurtzman of video games.
