I’ve had no problem with the name “Safeguard,” but “Firestorm” sounds absolutely badass, and much more fitting to these characters. It’s a shame DJW wasn’t able to use that name.

I'm always caught off guard by how tall the twins are. I keep thinking they're around Bumblebee or Wasp size, just funny little guys. But they stand shoulder to shoulder with Prowl and Jazz, and are only a little shorter than Sentinel. It feels somehow wrong to me that they're that big.

It is surprising, but I always interpreted it as a byproduct of being infused with Starscream's CNA. Since he is so freakishly tall by autobot standards, it gave the twins a growth spurt.
My headcanon is that the combined form WAS called Firestorm, but Sentinel or Magnus had it changed for propaganda reasons.
“We are calling ourself ‘Firestorm,’ it fits no?”

While this is true, they felt it didn't fit, Firestorm would have been more badass

It staged but in the way a play is staged because the pain for the most part is 100% real

Safeguard really isn't that bad of a name IMO, though I agree it doesn't suit them. IDK why they couldn't come up with something more inventive than "Firestorm." There's so many other potentially better ones. Fireflight, Tag Team, Resurgence, Third Wind (a play on 'second wind'), Skyguard. None of those are in use as far as I know. I like the twins a lot, but they show just didn't know WTF to do with them.
Probably cause firestorm is a DC character.
If Firestorm doesn't work, then make it "Flamestorm".

It's also technically a continuity error for Ratchet of all the Autobots to exclaim "No Autobot can fly!" when he's fully aware Omega Supreme exists.
It's not continuity error since Omega was built for that function while autobots functionally cant fly in this universe

I always assumed that Ratchet was referencing to a veto from part of the higher ranks of the Autobots; Since there's no militar vehicle among them (Possible because the ones with militaristic alternative modes ended up trying to taking the planet) and we have the case of some Autobots modding themselves (Like Warpath changing his sonar to a cannon) during the war being super dangerous for any semblance of order in Cybertron.
@@8ball180 You literally just confirmed why it's a continuity error while arguing that it's not. Omega Supreme was built specifically for that function and is an Autobot therefore an Autobot who can fly contradicting the statement that no Autobot can fly. The only way you can get away with making the claim "No Autobot can fly." is if you don't already have prior knowledge of Omega Supreme. Literally any other Autobot could have said that and it wouldn't be a continuity error cause if I remember right they didn't know about Omega Supreme yet, but Ratchet knew about Omega the entire series so why is he surprised?
@@RialVestro You are technically correct but Ratchet has reason to surprised since it was a non Omega sentinel with a flying mode. The Omega sentinels though autobots by faction are established to be quite different from normal Cybertronians being more akin to sapient wmds

I'd love to see these characters come back in a future storyline of some kind.
The idea of Autobot High Command using Starscream as a template for their own seekers is such a cool idea and I'm sad it never got explored on a deeper level.
Personally, they were my favourite Animated designs. I'd love to see an update of these, with hopefully more poseability in the robot combined form.
Russian accent!? For the longest time, I'd figure they had a more Asian accent. It doesn't help me either when they're also using VAs with high-pitched voices.

I don't think that the name Safeguard is bad and I would like to see an Updated Jetfire and Jetstorm/Safeguard in the Legacy line.
I can honestly imagine the Jettwins Powers on full display if S4 was animated by either Studio Trigger,Flying Bark,Mad House,Titmouse or Powerhouse Animation.
I want a legacy update to these 2.
I’m honestly quite curious how their combined form would’ve looked if Jetfire looked more like his Generation 1 counterpart, and Jetstorm his Beast Machines counterpart. Their designs just don’t work imo, but the idea that they could still combine would’ve been neat since (I think) they were the only combiners in Animated
They were, which means they're arguably Animated's Aerialbots. Season 4 would have seen the introduction of Superion, Bruticus and Devastator.
i like the concept of them being twins and combine with each other, but the names need work
I could imagine that it instead of one being a half, it would be more like weaponizers from the war for cybertron toyline.
I’ve always wondered why, out of all characters, the twins were some of the only Animated characters with no resemblance to their namesakes. Then you for this video, it’s quite enlightening. I find it funny how after a few years of Jetfire being a significant character in three consecutive shows, as soon as he dropped out of the spotlight they went right back to making his existence utterly confusing
I think they just are namesake i remembered in idw comics there was someone named prowl but he wasn't the prowl we knew he was just a namesake so yes in some citizens even get the same names
Something I just thought about: I’m surprised they didn’t go with the name “Jetstream” and make it a full naming convention for the pair and their combined form.

Jetstorm's design is better than Jetfire.

"No autobot flies" except for Omega Supreme, Prowl, Bumblebee, and Optimus
Omega supreme was a bot made creation with the intention, Prowl has a jetpack in his robot mode, same for Bumblebee, his boosters don't let them fly in their alt modes, and those were probably installed after they're creation, and they can't fly long distances like the twins, they don't have enough firepower and aren't aerodynamic
Optimus flying came after the twins debut
all of them after they got upgrades that specifically allowed them to fly. no autobots can naturally fly without upgrades like those in the context of the show. you cant be that braindead to not understand that...

My only real gripe with them is how easily they beat the Dinobots… you can’t do my favorite Autobot subgroup like that…
Otherwise, I actually like their designs and voice acting, they’re just generally serviceable characters.
I didn't dislike the Jet twins for the sole reason that it presented in cannon that flying Autobots were being made and, had the show continued, there would likely be more.

Mattel wanted to push Stridor into the He-Man show, and Filmation put it in and set it free. Toy company pushes character into show, showrunners agree their way.

Safeguard was likely chosen as a means to hold onto the trademark for the name. It had been used the previous year for Vector Prime's Mini-Con partner. Firestorm would have been totally awesome, but I don't think Safeguard is terrible.

I love the twins, but damn, I forgot how quickly they were swept to the side. Especially since this was the few times the symmetrical docking, to my knowledge was featured in a American cartoon. Hell I feel like they could've called the combined form Sky fire as a reference to Jet fire's G1 name

I get why they couldn't use the Firestorm name, because of DC already having a character of that name (although they could have name him Stormfire instead, but that's just me) but the fact that was originally Safeguard's name it would have been really ironic since, the DC's Firestorm's whole deal that he is a fusion of two people. Maybe that was another point of contention lol.

I love transformers animated but I don’t have any of the toys the reason why I love it is because they made the transformers in that show truely unique and special

As a longtime fan of G1 and Armada Jetfire. I don't mind the animated iteration of him, hes a completely different character
I love how when you mention toy needs and ruining a show, you go to Prime, an already fairly weak show, with Predaking, aka one of the few characters in that show that is treated more than a concept to fiddle around and flounder on the ship deck like 90% of the cast outside of Breakdown, Dreadwing, and Starscream aka half of which died when they developed to a mid point of an arc. A better example would be RID15 and Cyberverse with how the year's gimmicks hindered a show like Season 2 of Cyberverse and Season 3 of RID15 (Also kinda the Starscream arc in Season 2 but that arc feels like it should have been a TV Movie anyway to allow the Decepticon insugrence arc more time to breathe).
My only reasons for disliking them is that they're chummy with Sentinel and cemented the Dinobots as the "Yamcha" of the series... Oh, and the twincest fan art... They spawned so much of it, ewww... 😰

firestorm is defeated, they lose their groove together, they both train, upgrade, and unlock a new gestalt form a la unicron trilogy that accomodates for their new personalities and bodies.

I'm sure that when Shockwave got arrested, he was THAT guy who literally proofread all his prison documents, and pointed out ALL spelling and grammar, and even formal errors in the documents, meanwhile, the clerk being responsible for those documents corrects them according to how Shockwave pointed it out, and grumbles: "I'm dyslexic, you jerk!"
Like, I'm sure that Shockwave is THAT guy. Shockwave doesn't even mean any harm or spite. He just wants things to happen in an orderly and formal manner, even if everyone else would think that Shockwave is trying to spite everyone.

I'm really curious about Animated's development cycle such as the casting decisions. Seriously, who thought it was a good idea for a white person to voice a lead human character of color (yes, I'm talking about Sari)
I have thought about this. Sort of defeated the point of the representation. I’ve never asked anyone about it. I think Tara Strong and Tom Kenny did a phenomenal job as those characters, but it was a bit of a strange choice, especially because their portrayals were so inauthentic. (They literally named her Sari, after an article of clothing. I asked my Indian friend about this and he said it’d be like naming a character from Texas “Cowboy Hat”).

Sentinel Prime temps Bumblebee to join the Autobot Elite Guard with him. And, Sentinel told Bumblebee to abandoned Sari, Optimus Prime and his Autobots.
And, the Jet Twins, Jetfire and Jetstorm was very curious at their mentor and idol Sentinel.
I have a Jetstorm figure, but it's been modified to only change into robot and jet, scrapping the combination

I think it was the smart decision not to have them in the main cast right away, as they were just a little too powerful. Reserving them as Elite Guard members also ensured that they wouldn't overstay their welcome and be forced to get overly nerfed later. You have to keep your appetite for them at an even pace, or else you'll get sick of them. Unlike Sentinel, who you're meant to get sick of quickly.

I love the twins but I always hated their combined form. Looks lame, does nothing, has a lame name. I know that TFA's run being cut short means they didn't have much to do but they were so cool to me as flying Autobots and then they just kind of. Stand around pointlessly.
I still save all their fanart and they're like in my top 5 lol.

These two literally did nothing and their combined form is meh, but I honestly love these two in terms of personality and actually really liked their designs individually. I’ve honestly wanted new figures of them individually just cause they look so cool to me.

Side note I thought there was supposed to be a season 4 but it got canceled from what I heard was the ratings and money issues how I understand it
It was Hasbro re-strategizing how they wanted to handle TV projects. Rather than partnering with CN, they wanted to build their own TV network (the Hub), where they aired Transformers Prime. I have a fairly recent video on this channel called “Animated Season 4: What Should’ve Been” which thoroughly goes over everything about the cancelled fourth season.
