  • Say it ain't so! We are getting closer to finishing up our Weld.com collab series with Bob Moffatt. Next week is our last post from the project but today I am helping Bob with some stainless TIG welding just like he helped me with aluminum! Hope you guys enjoy!

    Hello. I have passed more than 3000 x-ray pipe joints. But still enjoy your videos and learn from you (two legends). Big like from Iran.

      They should also add that the purge pressure (cfh), can and will change the root...

    I use to use the dip feed method but now use a different type of putting the root in. I hold the wire on 1 of the walls n run the torch on both walls which makes a key whole and gives u a good root. And both walls fuse good

    Nice video, like all your :) I found somewhere it's no good to take out rod from shielding gas while you weld like that. Is that true?

    I would really like to see a video of the UA-42 ER309 tig root & hot then 309L 16 stick fill & cap on 2" XXS carbon.

    What size tig torch is best for doing the root. Is an air cooled no 26 too big and awkard.

    How do you fix cold wire on stainless because it's more harder then carbon . so takes a long time to suck back . If you can make a video to show brother

  • @roberthernandez7767
    @roberthernandez7767 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Legitimate question here.
    So I've gotten pretty decent at carbon pipe, but never have welded stainless pipe. Why is it everytime I see someone doing ss pipe they use the dip keyhole method instead of just the normal back feed where you leave the rod in the puddle the whole time?

    • @josephcruz4696
      @josephcruz4696 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stainless has an attitude.
      The trick ultimately is learning how to keep her as cool as possible, travel as fast as possible, but allow for adequate penetration in the heat affected zones.

    • @josephcruz4696
      @josephcruz4696 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't turn the gas down to 15-10 cfh when you have an inch or two left, you'll end up blowing a hole....

    • @josephcruz4696
      @josephcruz4696 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's like a house having the best air conditioning for the size of the house while not spending thousands upfront and not have a $1,000 electricity bill.
      Stainless does not like to get hot or stay hot.
      It changes all the qualities of the metal once you over heat it.

    • @josephcruz4696
      @josephcruz4696 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dip and keyhole, like the gentleman's said, allowed for the rod to work as a heat sink while having the inert gas flowing to keep the weld puddle much cooler while traveling and manipulating the torch alongside both walls to allow for penetration.

      joseph cruz this was like a year ago bro, I’ve learned since and welded on methane refineries. But thank you anyways, it only took a year for someone to get back to me 😂

  • @hatemymailbox
    @hatemymailbox 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the pipe is pretty much overheated)))
    See how Bob keeps the torch at the end of the bead, that is a habit formed by experience, to keep the bead shielded by gas, as it should be done!

    How do you fix cold wire on stainless ?

    • @hatemymailbox
      @hatemymailbox 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You either dont do it or you run hot on your root in the place you messed up.

    • @johnotto2896
      @johnotto2896 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best if u can have someone watch the spot and tell u as soon as the cold wire melts!

    • @IronCbalt
      @IronCbalt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leave a window on top and look where the cold wire is, turn up machine to like 150 more or less strike tungsten on bad spot on root pass and look through window and watch & break down cold wire. Make sure to drag off side or you will leave a fish eye
