Electric Fencing Off My Offgrid Homestead Pt. 1 - Hanging a Steel Gate, Driving Posts, Cable Wire

- In this video we are installing a perimeter electric fence at my Offgrid Cabin. This fence serves many purposes but it is mainly a predator deterrent focusing on keeping bears from disturbing my camp. It will be nice to have as I wont have to worry near as much about bears and such, particularly when I am away for any period of time. We hang a big 16' steel entrance gate, get all of of our wooden corner posts installed and cable wire stretched out.
Join my dog and I at our wilderness homestead in the Canadian North. This channel features videos on off-the-grid lifestyle and building, trapline adventures, hunting, fishing, trucks and much more!
I live off the land in a self reliant and self sufficient lifestyle. The land provides me with everything I need. My offgrid cabin is solar powered, heated by a wood stove and most everything I eat comes from the land; fish, eggs from my chickens, and many different wild game species. The lifestyle I live is essentially expense free and blesses me with the opportunity to do whatever I please.
In the winter months we head out on the trapline and ethically harvest fur bearing animals. Through moderate and sustainable methods I snare and trap these animals and work on, and sell the pelts at auction which provides a decent income for me to invest in my off the grid homestead and lifestyle.

Mind the words of us older folks watchin......You may be able to do that the way you do it now but you will feel that later on in your years......LOL If there is a mechanical advantage that doesnt do as much wear and tear on the body use it or you will shorten the time you will be able to do such things. Ever since you had those wolves hanging around your camp. I had wondered when you were going to put in some protection for your chickens and for cougar when you let him out to relive himself. Bet your going to be able to sleep a little better at night also. Those walks in the dark to the crapper can be a little more carefree. Cougar being with you around grandpa's is probably well acquainted with fences. Good choice keep on trucking.

Have you thought about putting a swiveling wheel on the end of the 16’ gate? It would help a lot taking the strain off the post and hinges. As well as making opening and closing a little easier. Keep up the great work!

@@kyleneedham6106 as mechanically talented as you are, I bet you could come up with a bi-directional skid to mount on the bottom of the wheel during the snow season. Based on the same principle as what they put on planes that take off on concrete but may have to land on snow or ice. Just a thought. Keep up the great work!

Really enjoyed that video. I have hung ranch gates on my land just south of Alberta, and, its not a one man job. A real pain in the ass actually. You made it look easy. Also, installed many fence posts and never used that pry bar. Good to know. Oh yes, good to see you recently with your hair cut. Cannot wait to see how the fence turns out. I made one for my acreage, the clearing at least, and it gives you the illusion that bears will not surprise you when inside the fence. That's important you know. Keep skinning.
