  • I told someone this story and they said that I had to share it with the world. I came home from a spinal procedure, trying to shake off the anesthesia and fired up the cameras. Here goes -

Well, thanks for making this happen… I first knew of Extreme from “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” where “Play with Me” was featured in the middle of the movie ( filmed in the old Metro Center Mall ) and that was right before I left on my mission. Six months after I came home, I moved back to SoCal and after being there for a few months I was in Tower Records in Sherman Oaks, saw Pornographity and bought the CD, put it on in my old Honda CRX and was immediately blown away!!! Then “More Than Words” hit all over on the radio and then things got fun…

Joe Smith, the guitarist for Slant Eyed Fish Head was standing at the keyboard while Beethoven was playing in Metro for that movie. (Longer red haired dude.)
Loved the use of Play With Me for that scene.
      RIP. MetroCenter.

Same! "Play With Me" was such an awesome song! I wore out my tape of that Bill and Ted soundtrack, I played it so much!

@@indiedavecomix3882It is surprising that Play With Me goes as un-mentioned as it does. What a great track and what great playing.

Sure sounds like you had a hand in getting them noticed in the Western part of the country. I can remember how cool it was to call into a DJ just hoping you would hear your voice requesting a song. Good memories! I'm going to go see Vinnie Moore tonight should be a great show! Wish you the best on the move to Oklahoma, take care of the back. Have someone else do the heavy lifting and twisting.

I saw Vinnie a few years ago at a very cool outdoor gig. The dude can still play.
Enjoy the show. Who else is he playing with?

The show was GREAT! It was in a very small club. The show opened with a local band that kicked ass. Then Vinnie and 3 monster players John JD Deservio from Black Label Society, Bob Pantella from Monster Magnet, The Atomic Bitchwax and a great singer and player Shawn Christie rounded out the group. They played 13 songs back to back. The group was tight. I can't believe I got to see and hear this much talent for $25!

Was watching Formula 2 racing the other day and one of the teams offers free driver autographs to if you send a self addressed stamped package to their headquarters. Brought back memories of my youth. Kids these days are so used to instant gratification they have no idea what its like to wait by the mailbox!

      Exactly.
I feel sorry for them, in a way. They don't know what it is like to get the new album, put it on the HiFi in your room and study the album cover during the first listen. The smell of the print, the band photos, reading all the "thank yous" etc. This is where we found out what our favorite player used for gear. Because they would thank Larry Dimarzio and stuff like that.
Now, they get a download, listen to the first 30 seconds of each song and keep the two that their friends like. How do you get to appreciate the deep cuts and jam tracks on the back side of the album? How do you get the sights, smells, sounds and feel of that first listen?
