  • Joachim lives remotely in the forests and mountains of Norway, as a full-time artist. Painting is his passion and purpose. I thought it would be time to tell his story...how he started painting, what is inspiring him and what challenges he had on his way. Hope you enjoy the film!

This is the story of a lost soul, wandering around the world, looking for the clue to find itself.
I really like your art and it's the right choice to follow your heart. It doesn't matter the rest of society has questions.
If you don't follow the common herd and people, like family, hate you for it because they want you to act 'normal'...
Well, that's ok. I did the same and being older now I know it was the right choice.
Love each other every day and everything will be just fine.

I didn't perceive him as a lost soul, I perceived him as a sensitive soul, connected to nature. And who feels at home when in nature and when painting nature. He is very fortunate to have found his calling at such a young age, he struggled for a while, but then he found it. She obviously loves, supports and believes in him very much. Beautiful story, beautiful couple. So inspiring 💗

This video inspired me to just start painting again after 3 years of not painting. Joachim's paintings are so delicate and yet powerful at the same time. You've really mastered the art of painting landscape on glass and canvas plus captured nature in all of its variegated moods and colors. I'm an artist too who grew up in a family of artists but like you was told to be practical and earn my living in the clerical field. I got my BA in Art but then have worked 40+ years doing various clerical jobs, doing my art when I can find the time and energy. I'm so glad that you have been able to pursue your passion and not become trapped in the 9:00 to 5:00 business career. You're living your life's purpose and dream. Jenny USA

Sincerely, I don’t understand about painting techniques but I know some things about sensitivity and the gift of transmitting feelings through the arts (music in my case). When I see a Joaquim’s painting, I travel to another world, totally surrounded by an atmosphere of calm and peace. He has the capability of open an invisible path between the artist and the spectator throughout the painting. This is not technique, this a gift, a natural talent, like Leena with filmmaking. We are so lucky of enjoying the art of both.

Joachim = JOY. You know Joachim, your still small voice kept whispering to you over time. And you bounced between the world, and your still small voice. And at one point that Still Small Voice began shouting at you, "Listen to me Joachim" it will all be ok. Trust me. And finally, you turned from the world, and followed your Still Small Voice. And here you are, a successful painter, a creator and a visionary. I loved your Hogwarts little shop idea. I believe that would be the culmination of all the time you've spent learning and DOING. Finally we get to hear your story, in your own words. I am so inspired by your story. Wish we could find a cabin in the woods, somewhere, and just live in Nature like you. Not so easy here. Remember to honor your Still Small Voice. It has done you very well. Now that you recognize it and listen to it intuitively. Well Done Joachim. I'm proud of you. And I am sure Leena is of you too.

Self doubts unfortunately are a characteristic for artists. Mostly because they do have a huge amount of compassion and extremely sensitive skills. An artist expresses a lot of his inner self in his artwork and it takes a lot of courage to present your art and such your inner self to the world. Congratulations to both of you and please go on touching us so very deeply with your stories and letting us participate in your journey. You are both so extremely talented!

Drawing is a different form of seeing; one that employs my eyes, mind, and muscles as well. When I initially begin a drawing, my eyes are most active; then my mind becomes engaged; and as I enter into what artists call ‘flow’, my muscles dominate because they’ve achieved a unity with my mind and eyes. I don’t know any other way to describe what it’s like for me to draw.

I know I'm supposed to comment on Joachim and his life/work. But I can't help admiring this talented, strong-minded, and hard-working girl who made Joachim's dreams come true. She is the reason his story has a happy ending. It most probably would have ended with another little good citizen ))) being created - someone deeply unhappy and disenfranchised with his work in the office.

Remarkable story. How many difficulties you had to overcome to finally do what you love and what gives you pleasure. Your landscapes are beautiful, you have a really great talent. The most important thing is to follow your dreams. I really respect people who have this courage to give up everything and pursue their passions and live off it. Too many people are crammed into the tight confines of the traditional way of life. Routine kills their dreams, creativity and passions. Together with Leena, you make a great team, it is wonderful to watch you and listen to you, you have good energy. ❤️

I could be however I wanted and it was ok. Nobody trying to make me feel better, cheer me up or judge my experience. I felt totally accepted as I was. To this day, nature is my only church. Well, another amazing film. Joachim, I believe the best decision you made in your journey so far was to call Leena. The two of you are harmony in living. She is the perfect counter to your wandering. She helps you center. She is your champion and a man cannot ask for more than that. My wife and I have been married for 47 years and overcame many obstacles in our life journey together, but we hung in there and continue to love and live. Seeing you two standing side by side towards the end of the film brought tears to my eyes as I recall in college sitting next to this beautiful Alto in choir where I was the paid Tenor and falling for her. Thank you again for your gift to we who watch.

We all see the glory of God in his creation in some way and it draws us to him even if we don’t realize it. For you it’s art inspired by all the beauty he made in trees, the sky and mountains. For me, it’s being a nurse because when I help others in caring for them, I see more and more how he’s healed me. God wants us to worship and love him, not his creation. And we can love him because he first loved us through his son, Jesus Christ. God bless you, you’re paintings are unique and beautiful.

This... is a REAL artist story. Thank you so much for sharing this, so many other artists, when they tell their stories, it's such bullshit... "It was hard at first, but it gets better," is all they ever say. Their words are often bordering toxic positivity at best, so entrenched in this stupid "never give up" culture, they think they're inspiring but it's only even demoralizing when I've tried the same things and failed.
This actually helps. To see your real journey, to be taken through it. I understand this on a much better level than others' petty platitudes and "git 'er done"s, and it actually gives me hope and understanding. Leading by example, not with empty words.
Thank you. On so many levels. Thank you.

You should both be very proud of this video. It is excellent, and very professionally produced. It is lovely to learn more about you Joachim and to see more of your work. I can entirely relate to your struggles, and am very familiar with being a square peg trying for years to fit into a round hole. You are very lucky to have the wonderful Leena in your life, and I'm so pleased that you have now been able to make a commercial success of your talent. So many don't ever make it, so well done to you. I wish you every success for the future.

Hi Brother! Many blessings to you from Amsterdam as well as a thank you note for your inspiration. Myself I’m not an artist, nor am I able to draw anything that would look inspiring. But after seeing your story, how your soul chose this journey you are in, to experience difficult times before you both met, it truly touches me when I see your dreams are coming true. Through the trees and landscape that you paint, light has shined upon you. I truly hope that one day I will be able to follow your footsteps, be surrounded by nature and have a talent hand someone would appreciate like so many appreciate yours.

I feel mostly at a loss for words. This is a beautiful documentary of Joachim. And his honesty and clarity about his journey is just so sacred and touching. I think, when a person has a great passion and gift, it must be lived. This can be so painful in contrast to how the world wants us to conform. But to deny it is even more painful. Joseph Campbell said, "Follow your bliss and doors will open for you that you didn't even know were there." Having lived 68 years, I believe he is correct. I hope you both continue to follow your hearts, remain true to your own purposes. If you do, life may not be easy, but it will always be rich and true and you will always be home in yourselves.

I would say it's actually a very present and full Soul living in a lost world which made this vivid and full Soul confused until he realised that it was possible to live in this lost world, but in his own way. Living a life at his own terms in what is nourishing and fulfilling for him. It was extra special knowing that someone who loves this person was behind the lens filming all of this :)

Oh my... What has gone on w/you both is such a story. The videos are beautiful there in Norway. It's good that you both could heal in the beauty of nature & then find each other there. Sharing with someone who's in the same predicament as you can be so helpful & give you perspective. Keep painting Joachim. You'll develope more as you go along & develope your own personal style. It will happen & it will come. Creating is such a soul thing. If you should ever get a little shop to display & sell your work you should paint there. That's something that helps your sales and people LOVE to watch. It's mesmerizing. I used to have this watercolor class that I created & had 15 students come weekly to take lessons. I got the teacher from a place here in Seattle, Washington, USA in a Art Shop called Daniel Smiths here in downtown Seattle. I wanted to learn to paint watercolor, that's why I created the class, but we all loved this teacher's style & the classes. One time we all paid the $35 for the class but just put our brushes down & just watched her paint a winter fall forest landscape for about 3 hours & we're in awe. It was so well worth seeing her just paint we would all have done it again. It was so stimulating. So keep painting. You can only get better. God bless you both.

May all his dreams come true 😊 And your video is also stunning. While I was watching it, I felt like being in the cinema. Those sceneries and colors are breath-taking and the way you film the small details makes your videos so fascinating 💞 I admire your passion and drive.

A very beautiful and interesting video; I have learned from it, for instance, that there is a lot of pressure from the outside world - family, friends, tradition - imposing someone to do things in life that are common and well respected, but that the person in question does not like at all and how difficult it is to abandon that trail and to find your own way, to fulfill your own dreams, in one word, to built your own life. With his great friend, Leena, Joachim made it, finally. Well done, Joachim!

Like Joachim, I find comfort and inspiration in nature. Whenever I feel anxious or depressed, a walk in the wood always helps me cure my blues. I do nature photography, but have always thought of it more of an excuse for me to justify spending more time in the woods. I loved watching the timelapses of his painting and hearing about his method and inspiration. Very well done video! Keep Wandering! Thx, Ken

    • @AVisceralLife
      @AVisceralLife 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@joachimingulstad7274 Yeah, but I think it was really more of a justification than excuse. "Look I'm being productive, I'm not just bumming around hiking and camping in the woods." Not sure that's healthy. At one point I made a point of leaving my camera at home to so I wouldn't be focused so much on the image. But you know what, I found nature photography actually helps me experience nature more fully. While others are quickly passing by me to get in their steps, I'm noticing the reflections of tree trunks on the pond, watching the mouse scampering around in the leaves and the observing an otter playing in the stream. Nature feeds my soul and the camera helps me focus. Anyway... we love watching you and Leena in the videos. We are also one of her Patreon supporters. Keep Wandering! Thx, Ken

I think that’s a very valid point, Leena finds the same - the focus changes with a camera. I look a lot at the wider landscape while she sees the movement of the wind and the finer details ✨🌾😊

AMAZING ♥ I am so happy for you. It's really important not to give up when you really know your passion even if it doesn't bring the wanted feedback instantly. I keep reminding this for myself too when disappointment comes around. Because when you are an artist - you really know what you love and how you should play your part in this amazing Universe. Very often we need our patience to await for the rose bud to blossom :)))

I think this personal narrative is an important feature to have on this site and certainly makes me more inclined to purchase an item after seeing what's behind it. I am fascinated with Norway, a country that seems to "get it" more than any other (though all the Nordic countries + FInland seem to be where it's at). Thus I added your regular stories to my list here. Keep it up!

I've tried video art, painting, drawing, songwriting, photography, no matter what its just hard to do fulltime.. you two are lucky to have found eachother and make it work your way. i hope i do to, i also think now its my time to start a webshop, and i am so lucky people want my pictures for exhabition even though it doesn't give m e money yet...

How truly beautiful.....finding oneself is the joy of life. And like so much in nature the journey is often not quite straightforward.....as the wind bends the tree, it does not break, but is formed into new beauty and grace. Your artwork is just beautiful and Leena's opening you up to all the possibilities and her support is 'the wind beneath your wings'....(Char in the U.S.)
