    Hi Ryan, I think you vids are great. On this one, I see alot of people coach this from the ad side, but nearly never on the deuce side - I always struggle to get the correct swing path / alignment on the deuce side (perhaps because body alignment and swing path is different relative to the the base line). Is there an imaginary line I could visualise on the ad side, that gives me the same reference point as the base line on the ad side, bearing in mind I am now hitting to the left, rather than the right (as a rightie). In other words, how much does the imaginary base line swivel counter-clockwise to get to the same reference point as on the ad side? Thoughts? :)

    I'm puzzled by the ball kicking to the right--seems that would necessitate "lefty spin," which would require the ball being hit somewhere around 5 o'clock. Is this correct? Thx for a good vid.

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. Yes you’d re correct. When you keep your body sideways enough during contact, you toss above your head, and you swing feom right to left along your baseline then the ball jumps to the right upon bouncing. Makes it difficult to deal with when players aren’t used to a righty making it jump right. Try it and let me know how it goes for you. Thanks again!!

    Top explanations, Ryan--very clear and effective. One point I notice when watching videos of the kick serve is that few players, including pros, can actually make that serve kick to the side as well as kicking up high. Maybe that is because extra shoulder flexibility is needed to brush the ball sideways at the same time as it is being brushed upward.

      You’re 100% correct. Keep your body to the side while going into the court. After contact you’ll turn toward the net. But you should feel much more sideways on a kick serve than you do when hitting a flat serve. 👍

  • @jsrss
    @jsrss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video. Is it not the case (and your actual demonstration seems to show this) that:
    - the toss is slightly into the court (less than a flat serve but still into the court)
    - while the stroke direction is more to the side then a flat serve, it’s direction is more on a 45 degree angle into the court. If it was actually moving in a 90 degree direction, ie along the baseline, the strike would be too thin and while there would be spin there wouldn’t be enough pace.
    That’s what I appear to see in looking at your sample kick serves which look good to me.

    So I can hit a kick serve and can get it to kick pretty high but man the pace on it is sooo much slower. How do I get a little more pace on it. Like I feel like my flat serve is 90 but my kick is like 55

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. Try tossing a little more into the court. So still toss above your head but also into the court. This will flatten out the kick serve and make it go faster. You’ll lose a tiny bit of kick but gain about ten miles per hour in speed. Keep me posted!!! 👍

      The difference between topspin and kick is subtle. The kick serve swing path, combined with the closed racquet face, is more between the baseline and 45 degrees, whereas the topspin path is directly behind the flight path (between 45 degrees and about 65 degrees off the baseline).

    I struggle with the kicker. Practice it a lot, using method as you teach it...at least I hope it's right....same grip (eastern B/H), toss, swing path and aiming point. I've gotten some results, but I have never developed it with enough pace or kick height to be a weapon. I am older but I still get hefty pace on my flat serve...better than some much younger guys. If i hit with more racquet speed, the ball just tends to go long. Maybe it's a flexibility issue, but I sooo want to master this. Any ideas at all! I watch you hit it and I'm envious! Jerry in Reno

    I totally agree with your advice, especially on the grip, toss and body position. I been playing and coaching/ teaching for a long time. Being a 5’6” 140 lb. player I have used a combination of kick, slice and flat serves effectively. I knew I would never generate overwhelming pace on the flat serve so I developed my spin and placement to constantly mix it up. I also recommend finding what your opponents don’t like and use that against them on important points. When I played baseball and pitched I learned how to change my grip on the ball for different pitches and move the ball around the strike zone according to the count. It’s similar in tennis. The slight change in grip and toss allows me to get my kick out wide on the add side of right handed players. The slice serve is a nice counter measure to keep them guessing and off balance. Great lesson 🎾🎾👍

    I find it more difficult to go to the deuce court with the kick serve. Can you show what adjustments you make and what is the plane of the racket swing when serving to that side?

    One thing you want to add which.l am surprised very few talk about is this and you do it naturally on your serve. For a right hander it helps when going up to meet the ball to kick the right leg out. This helps maintain the sideways direction long enough which will prevent a player from opening up too quickly.
    This little talked about maneuver is super important. Great video thanks.

    Nice video, good job. Please explain the differences (along with check points) between spin serve and kick serve

    Good tips, but i have trouble pronating when I try to add spin, and when I spin more, then I pronate less and then the balls wont have much action. How do I do both ?

    great lesson! do I still need body coiling when trying kick serve, too? if my body & racket path see baseline direction, how can I increase ball speed? thanks!

    Hi Ryan, wonderful lessons and this one too ... could you please show kick serve to the deuce court in a video

  • @michaelh.1588
    @michaelh.1588 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Ryan. Great video again!!
    Maybe you can also do a video about the different swing directions on the other serves. How do you swing to create slice on „flat“ serve down the t on deuce side? How do you swing for slice on a „flat“ serve out wide on add side?
    Does the pronation move itself create sidespin? Everytime i train this move isolated i get some spin on the ball no matter what direction i aim.
    And the guys from Racquetflex also said this in one of their videos.
    Thanks again

    Hi Ryan, Great explanation, but when you're doing the actual kick serve at the end of the video I think your body faces the net at a final stage rather than you keep it to the side . Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

      Thanks for the kind words. The idea is to stay sideways at contact snd for as long as possible. Your body will finish facing forward at the end or you’ll fall over. But at contact you’ll be sideways. Thanks!!!

      @@2MinuteTennis Now it makes more sense to me. You need to dive and face the net eventually, but the point is to stay sideways at contact. I'm a tennis instructor myself and I find your analyses, explanation very useful and convincing. Good stuff.

      @@2MinuteTennis Thanks. Same to you. A friend of mine, an ex-tennis pro in Poland suggested your video explaining the idea of pronation on a slice serve, so I really liked that and watched other videos. Keep up the good work!
