My first guitar was a steel string Oscar Smchidt (by Washburn) dreadnought. I still have it. I just picked guitar back up after a very long on again off again hiatus. Getting my calluses back again now. I remember picking up a nylon string guitar years ago and being shocked at how different it felt from a steel string, with a flat fretboard, wider string spacing, and softer strings. I prefer the steel string sound, particularly for vocal accompaniment, but totally get why some players prefer nylon.
