I figured this out by accident. I was playing around with a white belt, as you do, and I thought I'd spar with a shitty grip to give him a chance to fight back and use what he's learned. So I grabbed his wrist with just two fingers, my thumb and middle finger. And then I realized hold on a minute, this grip is so much stronger.

This is black belt level technique! The more advanced a grappler is, the more he's focused on establishing the dominant grips at the start of the match. Great stuff, thanks! 🙏👍

People dismissed these grips as oddities of old jiu-jitsu books and kung fu "postures" not ever having someone do it to them. That middle finger thing, that, is a big deal, really glad you did this, and that level change you clarified something I saw but could never quite do.

Lesson number 1 when I wrestled in college, grip matters. It should crush. A powerful grip and heavy hands is very intimidating.

Another tip is instead of grabbing the wrist, grab the fingers. Trust me, you will have more control than grabbing the wrist.

Once again..!! This channel is what it's all about..!! Always top level techniques no matter your level..!! Us old school guys really have evolved games because we never stopped self analysis..!! I literally think all the time about how to improve techniques and develop sequences,, mostly based on things I did years and years ago..!! Worth mentioning..!! Back in the late 80's Gene Mills came to our school..!! One thing he demonstrated that always stuck with me was drilling control without ANY grips at all..!! We were ONLY allowed to use use closed hands the entire time to maintain control..!! He also demonstrated the 2 on 1 tip up, a variation of the 2 on 1 tilt..!! From that point forward the 2 on 1 was my go to control technique..!! I was forever changed..!!
