Keep in mind you can tighten the top clamp with the standard hex key used for (nearly) all small rig screws. That way you can make it so it won't move when bumped, and you could also tighten it if it does eventually loosen.
tilta mod? for the 4x4 filter two bits of 3d printed spacers on both edges will connect with the locking system, simple and cheap solution even a caddy can be made to hold two.
@@GeraldBertramPhotography i just made the design now in maxon C4D, I will print it but first I need the matt box which I will order in the next two weeks when i get to NYC. I will keep you informed. so far I have made a tray in terms of concept but I need the mattbox to get exact sizes. I'm in Argentina right now, but I'm from London.
Hi, great review. I really like the smallrg lightweight version. Curious if u think the lack of side flags may be an issue. Sort of feel bc of its larger format the frame serves as side flags.
I rarely have a need for side flags. The top flag always seems to handle any glare issues. That being said, SmallRig now has the Mini Matte box Pro that has side flags as well. I believe it's around $130 on Amazon.
Hi there, I laughed when you pointed at Laowa 7.5mm. Why? Because thats my main lens I am shooting real estate with. I am searching for solution for ND Filters and matt box. Laowa is 46mm and other lenses I use have 58mm radius. I bought big 72mm filter with step down rings and its super weird and without mattbox sun flares are killing me often.
I'll be honest it would look really....odd. it's so much larger than the little Laowa. Better to wait for SmallRigs new mini mattebox that should be released shortly or go with the Tilta as it is a bit smaller.
@@BarefootMediaTV On the budget side I really like the ones from Ice. They have a 4x4 10 stop, 6 stop or 3 stop ND filters for like $49 each on Amazon.
Hello Sir, great informative video! I know that you didn't recommend doing this, but how would you go about connecting smaller lenses to the Smallrig matte box? I checked the Smallrig website and they don't sell or produce step-down adapter rings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
The easiest thing to do is just get a step up ring for whatever the filter size is of your lens up to 68mm which is the smallest thread adapter SmallRig includes with the mattebox.
@@GeraldBertramPhotography Mr. Bertram - one last question I forgot to ask you earlier. What are some of the advantages or disadvantages of the 4x5.65 filters over the 4x4 in terms of video quality? If there are any.

Hi mate now I m on your channel so plz help me I wanted to make full setup for TH-cam videos and wedding purpose and i m like complete beginner in physical aspect of this profession, so currently I have lumix g85 with kit lens and didn't like it's low light capabilities and Bokeh effects and now I wanted to purchase my first prime and in my mind 16mm sigma 1.4 workout for me so what's ur opinion
100% the Sigma 16mm 1.4 is a great choice for video. If you are moving into TH-cam the 2 big things you need to consider is audio and lighting. Honestly they are even more important than the new lens. Good audio and lighting can even make the kit lens look good. Let me know what kind of budget you are working with and I would be happy to provide some recommendations.
@@GeraldBertramPhotography currently I m using boya by m1 lavailer mic which cost around 12-14 dollars and homemade diy softbox with 3 60w led bulb 6500k and dual layer of duffison one layer is of butter paper and second layer is big reflector dussion layer and with kit lens 12-60mm and I m able to achieve 400 iso in spot focus metering mode but this lights is a huge mess because of my natural environment, I didn't own any air conditioner and use ceiling fan at minimum speed for less noise and here in delhi- india the weather is extremely hot it kind touch nearly 45degree celsius I felt sweat all the time 😭
@@Rohitkumar-hn5og Gotcha. Well that certainly seems like enough to get you started for sure. Throw that 16 1.4 into the mix and you really have a workable little TH-cam kit for sure.
@@GeraldBertramPhotography and what about godox sl60w do u have any experience with that light, currently I m using 60w 3 led bulb which equal to 180watt, if I ask u that is godox sl60w enough powerful for me if I go with kind of 80cm octabox with dual layer of diffusion with sigma lens kind of my mid body shots for videos or my current setup is much poweful because I also didn't have any experience of chip on board lights🔥
@@Rohitkumar-hn5og I have indeed used the SL60. At one point I had 3 of them. For your use, if I am correct, where you are really trying to drop your ISO I'm not sure the SL60 is going to be enough for you. If you have access to Aputure products their new budget line of Amaran lights would be perfect. They are a bit tough to find in stock anywhere. The Nanlite FS-150 is also another great choice. Jinbei also had just introduced their new line of EFII lights that are great as well. The point is I think you are going to need a 100-150w light (in these COB style lights) to really bring that ISO down a bunch. I fear if you just get a SL60 you are going to find it doesn't have enough light output for you.
Keep in mind you can tighten the top clamp with the standard hex key used for (nearly) all small rig screws.

I like your thinking. Do you do 3D printing yourself? I'd love to do a video of a mod like that but I don't have access to any 3d printers myself.

It's funny with matte boxes, I always want one because they look good on the camera but then I never use them when I buy them!
I hate to admit it but part of the reason I use them is because of client impression.

Hey Gerald what is your choice between new smallrig small mattebox or smallrig big mattebox for a7 iii and 24-70 gm
I should hopefully have the new mini mattebox from Smallrig very soon so I'll be able to give an accurate assessment.

i wanted the tilta but its 240 for the cheapest single filter, i see an 8 pack of 4x4 filters for 30 bucks for the smallrig.

Not directly. no. However if you put your camera on a rail system you could use the matte box with that lens with the rail attachment.
