Gregg I bet you and I would have a lot to talk about! My mother was also born in Trinidad, and she met my father in the mid to late 1950s, he was in the Navy stationed at the old base in Chaguaramas. I grew up listening to this music, my mother loved it, and every party we had when I was a kid had this great music as the soundtrack to it! We also lived in Central Florida (about 100 miles north of the Tampa Bay area) so it's probably safe to say we had a very similar upbringing! I grew up with this music and it sounds even better today, still fresh and brings back the most amazing memories also for me.

Anyone listening in 2020. I could think of no better artist than the one and only Slinger Francisco ORTT CMT OBE, better known as Mighty Sparrow, to cheer me up during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. As a child in Uganda 🇺🇬 in the 1979s, we played many songs of the Calypso King of the World to walk away our blues and bring a smile to our faces. My father had studied in the US 🇺🇸 in the late 1950s where he’d fallen in with Caribbean students who introduced him to the greatest Grenadian calypso vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist. As a student in the US 🇺🇸 in the 1990s, it was the Mighty Sparrow that partly kept me company as an undergrad and grad student. And now, so many years later, here I am in Tanzania 🇹🇿 returning to the old tunes of perhaps the best-known and most successful calypsonian. Hats off to the big man! Much love from out here across the oceans.
Well said. One of the greatest calypsonians of all time. But he is from Trinidad. I am from the Caribbean and I grew up listening to his songs Cheers from St. Lucia
Before Sparrow flies away, he must be internationally acknowledged as one of the world's greatest Calypso artists, in the category of Belafonte and Marley. Greetings from Aruba!

By the grace of God I was fortunate to grow up (born late 60's) in the lower Caribbean surrounded by the sweet sounds of the Mighty Sparrow and his amazing contemporaries. The importance of music in maintaining a harmonious and civil society is so underrated it can only be fully understood through a reflection of those of us who have lived through Calypso's renaissance. Be it Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia, TnT, etc. where I've lived or visited (thx LIAT) in my younger years had that common mysticism of happiness and joy. It's no coincidence that music is the foundation of our peaceful and loving culture. I suggest we don't let this music, our dialects and story telling disappear. We need it to maintain our cultural identity.

😮 Trinidad music, I am an islander, the best music ever to free your mind and retrieving memorable time's party Cooley food, punched rum and bust up shots and chana aloe tumaka pepper sauce. Life is great with beautiful music to smoothly get by with the bs of living freedom.
When I was a little girl in school I used to be so protective of my teacher, fearing that the 🦎 lizard will go up her dress, when I grew up and had sex for the first time I realized that was the 🦎 lizard lol. Sparrow good but nasty as hell 💘 love de Sparrow
I listen to this every week with my grandma and she literally sings every word and rocks to it so happily, mentioning memories of my Grandad throughout! I now know every song too! 😂 Love it! ❣️
as a Grenadian myself, its so nice to have a star from my country so I can listen to his music and say, "yeah man thats home" nothing come close to some good old times soca
Sparrow is simply the greatest calypsonian who ever lived. He enjoyed his art. As he became older he refined some earlier versions of his songs. I am an accountant, and I have his music as background noise when I am working 10 hour days. Sometimes I get up and dance by myself. My children think that I am mad. I just enjoy the songs. I am 63 years old this year. I have been in England since 1980, from Dominica. This makes me 43 years in England. But whenever I hear Sparrow I am immediately taken back to the music I heard from birth to 20 years old. "Drunk and Disorderly" is one of my favourites. "Miss Mary" is another. Sparrow Party Classics is very good. Watch him in Party Classic live. He is very teasing and alive to the meaning of the lyrics. For a big man he moves expertly and effortlessly across the floor. It is a pleasure to see him working a crowd of Trinidadians. All races in Trinidad warm to him. Indian, Chinese, White and Negro. In my opinion, his music will last forever. What better praise can we give him. He may not have been the most intellectual man like Eric Williams, but his calypso is just brilliant. I think that the only artist to come near to him is Harry Belafonte. May God grant him long life and years more of good music making. We in Dominica really love his music. I live in Kent, SE England. He is still warming up my house with "Sa Sa Yea". Roland Mitchell-FCCA- Kent, 06/08/2022.
A master whose legacy is that he brought so much joy to generations. I can still recall my grandmother singing to Jean and Dinah and the 3W's songs and I'm in my seventies.
I remember well growing up when Sparrow’s music permeated the air & the airwaves. Unlike with some other tunes, you could never hear too much of his music. Even as a child, I could appreciate the beautiful melodic voice & the clever & sometimes satyrical lyrics. I soon came to realize that he was & still is my favorite calypsonian. When I finally got to meet him in person in 2002 when he came to perform in a concert in the US Virgin Islands, I was so ecstatic. I will always treasure that experience. His voice coupled with the instrumental sounds of his steel orchestra are phenomenal!
Gezellige muziek.
With a voice of perfect pitch and a genius and poetic wit, no one ever will come near to him. The absolute greatest of the genre. He will live for ever...
I am a Jamaican and a former party animal in the 80s and the 90s eventhough we had a lot of really great dance hall icons then but I must consede that no party or dance didn't complete with out the mighty sparrow him tune up vibes Respect to my Trinidadian brothers and sisters.
@@camillaniles9720 You cannot take a person's nationality from them based on where they reside. He was born in Grenada and you cannot change that. That's where he is from
Salute to the Mighty Sparrow in the twilight of life. Thanks for all the melodious joy and picong that you have provided me over the years. My dear late sister Margo loved his music sooooooo much. Ever so often when I hear his music, I think of her and happiness that was her hallmark. Thanks Sparrow for all the sweet party music you provided. Ah special thanks for those live performances too
Thank You Trinidad & Tobago . You received my family from British Honduras in 1961. We had experienced Hurricane Hattie. Thank you. My favourite till today.. "Kuychulea" (sp).when I can have it. And Sir, (Sparrow. One day I come back! ) "Johnny" . I am 70 yrs
THIS music sweet caaiso have my grandparents all over it. Sweet memories of childhood in the 80's listening to this music at every party growing up in London, UK. The grenadian culture food and the whole Caribbean and then knowing he is Grenadian born eventhough grew up in Trinidad the Mighty Sparrow had some real swag man and versatility as am older I appreciate him even more and now both grandparents gone it just makes it so special to listen like they right here with me esp my grandma tapping her foot and dancing oh gosh I miss her🇬🇩🇹🇹
Mr Sparrow, is the best and my favorite song is English Diplomacy. I feld in love with that song as a child in Panama. My neighbor played his records every Saturday so our building was right infront of hers and that is how i know all his songs.
Jan 2021: This is how you say bye to a shitty year and welcome a new one with hope: Drunk and disorderly; Miss Mary; Don Back Back! Jane: I ain't ready yet!
Growing up in St. Thomas, VI.. Sparrow was all over the radio station where I worked and had an on-air show (I was 21) WBNB ..All the on-air DJ's loved him cause if you put a Sparrow tune on your show..well sir the party about to begin...Yes I agree he needs to be internationally recognized...The Musical Poet of the Caribbean..The CArnival Committee brought him here to STT a few years ago..but they ran out of enough money to promote his presence properly in the VI. A lot of folks never knew he was in town..I missed seeing him..So I hope he does another concert...We all ain't gettin' no younger! Thanks for posting this clip!
Mighty Sparrows been one of the best export of Soca music from the Caribbean, to me he's a musical Icon and a great musical Ambassador. He brought a sence of purpose to parties and to the dance floor, bless him, and Lord Krishna, they made you dance not fight.
I grew in a house where my father played music with his long playing records. Even now I listen to Francisco Slinger, Lord Kitchener and Singing Francine.

Sparrow is the king, hands down. I love Kitch and everybody else. But sparrow is king. Much love family
Guatemala, Central America present, this music has accompanied us for years !!!
I'm from Ghana, one of the great all time tunes good master pieces put in a well rhythm for both your dancing feet and relaxation
😅😅😅
I listen to this every week with my grandma and she literally sings every word and rocks to it so happily, mentioning memories of my Grandad throughout! I now know every song too! 😂 Love it! ❣️

Nah he's a trini we already claimed him since he first started xD
@@Cxnvict yes but he born in grenada sooo i doh care
@@sevewonn8567 bro what kinda logic is dat
@@KiddSteely I agree with you that he is Grenadian. All the spice tea Sparrow got as a child helped developed his voice.
He’s going to be singing in heaven, everybody’s gonna be jumping around rejoicing may God continue to bless his soul there’s a place for him in heaven

Yuup dah soca Goat rite yaah.. one and only ...blow aff sparraw

Calypso music is what sets the party on fire in the 70s ,80s and 90s. And it is still one of the top music in the world today 06 -09 -2020.
My first time I heard of Mighty Sparrow was in 1969 when I visited Surinam. ...I am still a fan and have his music on my Sonos system.
Gezellige muziek.

He's from Grenada
@@vtcl1 But he honed his talents in T&T. So he's ours .He lived there all his life.

When am feeling down I play my gospel songs, forgive me I end up playing de Sparrow "Dean and Dina" classic
Listen to Sparrow every day. The man is a legend. His poetry is out of this world.
Nice dimples on cheeks, nice voice, space teeth, this calypsonian , unique!
Jan 2021: This is how you say bye to a shitty year and welcome a new one with hope: Drunk and disorderly; Miss Mary; Don Back Back! Jane: I ain't ready yet!
Saltfish white meat etc
Greetings fellow StTomian from Eddie Henthorn .Saw your post (2yrs old😕) Lived there 58-82. Remembering Niki (Mighty Whitey) too.
Stay up!
Mighty Sparrows been one of the best export of Soca music from the Caribbean, to me he's a musical Icon and a great musical Ambassador. He brought a sence of purpose to parties and to the dance floor, bless him, and Lord Krishna, they made you dance not fight.

I can’t even say what song I like the best, Awesome....
