Both, 5 and 5N. 5 was a fleamarket find for 10$ with a 16 2.8 lens, pretty beaten up, but they work. And a black 5n, which is my second one. The first 5n i've sold long ago to upgrade to a 6 but bought another one just because the price was right, about 80$, to have it for nostalgia. For the fast operation of aperture and iso, you can program de 2 buttons and Dpad and use them as shortcuts, press and scroll. Love mine to bits and use it from time to time with a manual focus lens that i have adapted. I did street photography with it and iso 6400 is quite usable but also the limit of this sensor, which until the A6000 it was the better option, the R, T and 6 use a second gen 16mpx sensor that lost the color palette and have more grain at higher iso, but the colours are too "edgy".
you can put ISO onto one of the hardware buttons, or onto the 'custom menu' which is accessed by pressing the middle button of the dial. - go to 'custom key settings' in the setup menu
I agree with you. I also bought mine for $125 total with lens. I owned it back in 2012 sold, bought it again in 2020 sold it and bought another copy in early 2022. The kit lens punches above it's weight. I also shoot with the Samyang 35mm 2.8, and Zeiss 55mm 1.8 and get incredible results. I also bought a NEX 7, but didn't have the magic the 5N has. Files are clear and punchy with this camera. Best deal out there as a carry everywhere camera.
The 18-55 OSS kit lens is excellent - I bought the NEX5N when it first came out and after 10's of thousands of images now, both camera and lens are still working as new. As you've mentioned the awful menu, rubbish battery life, frustrating control dial on the back which is too easy to move accidentally - leaving all that aside, the old NEX-5N is still a way-far superior camera compared to an iphone 15 pro max. (Ignoring video obvs, for which the iphone is light years away!). PS - I've used the latest adobe camera raw upscale feature and the results with a good image are amazing.
Honestly, this camera is killer for the price! I picked one up to use as my secondary "don't give a shit if I drop it" camera and so far I'm amazed how good pictures I can take with it And I love that it uses the same lenses and batteries as on my primary sony camera
Love this camera. For that size, it is an amazing camera. Still using it today. Unfortunately sony doesn't release new model update for this form factor. The buttons is customizable btw. With vintage manual lens, i still got 500+ photo from the original batery on a single charge. Change the shooting mode to speed priority (box with letter s in it), then you will get those 10 fps.
Bought this camera about a half year ago, for learning cinematography. 120 euros for full kit with 2 lenses, flashlight and spare battery. I could say, that if you interested only in photography, something like Nikon D300 would be a better choice for this money, but as a beginner videographer or filmmaker tool you can hardly beat its price to value ratio. Kit lenses are pretty much garbage, but with some 10eur adapter you'll have access to a vast choice of awesome and inexpensive vintage lenses.
I recently bought a Nex 5t with two lenses, 4 batteries, flash, charger, all the manuals, guide book, mounting system, remote, and a bag for 120usd. Happy I bought it but something about it feels wrong. I don't like the mushy shutter button. The screen looks ugly too. The touchscreen doesn't work which seems like a common issue. The lenses seem expensive and they are huge cause apsc, I'm used to my Nikon j5. I wish the viewfinder weren't so expensive. I found a 5n with two lenses, a flash, viewfinder, charger, and bag for $200. Guy was willing to ship but not as a business account offering any protections. His account was legit but it was a risk I wasn't willing to take. I would've sold the rest to just get the viewfinder for free.
I have this camera which is brilliant. Sadly the blue battery clip broke but the door still closed so I had to stick pads to the batteries to protect the door. Now I have to keep the battery door closed with black insulation tape.
Do I see salt and straw ice cream? I don’t know if that’s the one in LA but I love salt and straw here in Portland. Very interesting video and beautiful slow mo video files!
Hi...I know very very little about camera's & this might sound a bit stupid lol... I appreciate that the Sony Nex 5N now is a bit old but I'm looking to find a better option on a low budget 🙈 without spending a lot of money to film our TH-cam videos (which are filmed in a brightly lit man-cave). I've just been using whatever Samsung mobiles series (my prefered mobile brand) I have at the time on the best quality setting I can. I appreciate you cant say exactly (since there's hundreds of phones/camera's) but as a camera noob would you say having a dedicated camera like the Sony Nex 5N (even though a bit old now) would still be a much better option that using a current gen camera phone?
yes is great for 2023 to 2040, i gave seconde life to my Sony nex 5T by pairing it with Sigma 18 50mm f2.8 and sigma 30mm F1.4, this old camera perform well with this new lenses, i m happy i downloaded same app from playmemories for my camera like Focus Bracketing, time laps and stop motion, today impossible to have this fonction in new camera

Hi mate. I have a dilemma - I can get a NEX 5N with a kit lens and a pancake lens, with extra battery and some other accessories in perfect condition, or a slightly worn NEX 6 with only the kit lens for almost the same money. Which one would you choose? I don't really care about the video making, it's just for photos.

Dude, I've been using an NEX-6 and a 5T for about 10 years, and am using them to this day. The NEX-5T has been converted to full-spectrum and is my main infrared camera; I keep the NEX-6 around as a cheap body. And that is despite having much more advanced full-frame cameras at hand.

I have an nex-5 and and nex-6. I only paid $50 for the nex-5 and 150 for the NEX 6. They're very frustrating cameras. I would love them except for the fact that the menu system is terrible and I have to spend way too much time trying to fix the weird colors they get. If they got as good of colors as Canon I would never use anything else but they just don't.
