Skyrizi 101: Uses, Dosing, Side Effects, Cost Concerns (Plus - Does It Really Cause Weight Loss?)

  • 11 Natural Therapies (Outside of Drugs And Surgery) That Actually Work [free checklist]: curtis-alexand...
Skyrizi is used to treat psoriasis.
It’s mechanism of action is that it's an interleukin blocker. What that means is that eventually it's going to decrease the number of cytokines and chemokines that are produced in your body.
These substances are basically signaling proteins that lead to inflammation in your body.
    Dosage
Skyrizi has a unique dosing schedule.
First of all Skyrizi comes in a 75 mg strength that you inject subcutaneously. You give two injections or 150 mg on day one, then you give 150 mg 4 weeks later, then you start giving 150 mg every 12 weeks.
The first month of dosing is what's referred to as a “loading dose”. The idea is to get your blood levels up a little higher earlier on and then level you out with the every 12 week dosing
    Side Effects
Skyrizi does have some side effects that you need to be aware of.
First of all you can develop antibodies to use in Skyizi. This means that your body begins to develop antibodies to the drug and it can become less effective the longer you use it. You can see this in up to 24% of people who use it.
About 14% of people who use it can develop neutralizing antibodies. These types of antibodies actually make the drug ineffective.
The other type of side effect you can see is higher infection rates.
Remember Skyrizi acts on chemokines and cytokines. While they are involved in the inflammatory process remember that inflammation isn't always a bad thing. Part of your immune response involves inflammation. So when you knock that down it can lead to more infections.
You can see higher infection rate in up to 22% of users. Some of the more common infections tend to be upper respiratory tract infections and fungal infections.
I also warn people that you can see headaches in a small group of users as well as fatigue. But again these are only 3% to 4% of users.
One of the other things I get asked is if Skyrizi can cause weight loss?
It's actually not listed as one of the potential side effects for the drug. But keep in mind if you find that you're losing weight pay attention to if you are getting any sort of infections. If you're not feeling well because of infection there can be weight loss. But as far as Skyrizi directly affecting weight loss I think it's a long shot.
Because the drug can affect your immune system your doctor is likely going to monitor your labs throughout your use. I'll also test you for tuberculosis and monitor that as well.
How Long Does It Take To Work?
Skyrizi takes 3 to 14 days to reach peak blood levels. That doesn't mean it will take that long to start working. You may notice changes sooner.
But as far as peak effectiveness you're probably going to be looking at giving yourself at least a week or two on the medication to notice a change.
One of the biggest issues you see with people who want to use Skyrizi is that it costs quite a bit of money.
Sometimes we don't have any issues getting it through insurance other times you will. If that's the case you may want to look into financial assistance.
Here's a link to Skyrizi’s financial assistance program check it out see if you qualify: www.abbvie.com...

I’m about to start treatment for Crohn’s disease as well. I’ve been experiencing some hair loss/shedding for several months now, but I’m also menopausal. I’m a little bit hesitant now, because the last thing I need is something else contributing to more hair shed. How are you doing with subsequent treatments? Did the hair shedding slow down down or go away?

    • @xawaomar100
      @xawaomar100 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@abriyahyasha-rahla2656 I have actually started to think the hair loss was attributed to stress. I was actually diagnosed with crohn's during a very, very stressful period last year. I was doing full-time work and full-time school. I was working one weekend and had 2 big research papers due by Monday. That's when I started getting the horrible abdominal pain, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. 3 months in being newly diagnosed, I lost a lot of hair. I decided to go part-time for work and finish off my masters. Reading the symptoms of the medication, I found no side effects to be hair loss. Stress can play a huge factor in IBD and crohn's, which is why a lot of young adults get diagnosed. The hair loss stopped. I cut a large chunk of my hair, and I'm just trying to grow it out now. Stress causes hair loss also! Maybe you have a lot of stressors in your life. I was diagnosed last year at the age of 29 and was recovering from brain surgery I had earlier that year, plus I started school and was working full time. I was juggling a lot and never realized it until I got sick. Stress isn't worth it. It harms the body.

@@theworldisastage1984 Don't be angry you weren't aware of the side effects. The good thing is now you are aware and will question your doctor if he or she asks you to take another biologic and you will look at the side effects of the drug the doctor wants to give you and decide on that basis. Good luck.

I like at the end of this guy's lecture he mentions, if you need financial assistance there are plans out there to help you afford this drug! I for one would seek the help of a holistic doctor to tray natural therapies, this is just another sales pitch from big pharma to make millions on a drug that doesn't work, and that's loaded with side effects!

Yeah your holistic quacks will throw “cure” after “cure” at you-here drink this tea; cut this out of your diet, here buy this supplement. What a joke. I hope you don’t end up suffering with an autoimmune disorder to the extent of those of us who had to choose pharmaceuticals. I was severely
su/i/ci/da/l before I was prescribed a biologic and now I’m not. Which would you rather have-me k/i/l/l myself, or go on a pharmaceutical that has been researched and developed by immunologists? Hmmmm. Hopefully YOU won’t have to make that choice for yourself but I had to.

I am prescribed Skyrizi for Chrohn’s disease. Does it cause seizures? Never had seizure before . And have had them since taking skyrizi and want to know if it is causing this?
