    This is one of the hardest movies i have ever watched. It really shows, not just bullying, but the effects it can have, how it can be contagious, and reasons it continues. Keep in mind the teacher had to know it was happening to call out "who did it" but did nothing until he was forced to.

      Im one of those who was bullied and became a bully. That is one of those things that will never leave you when you know that you made someones life as, or even more, miserable than yours. This movie really gave me a hell of a emotional beating.

    Honestly, the suicide attempt of Nishimiya had me shocked, but it didn't make me cry. The last scene however, when he starts being able to see all the people, that fucked me up good. I sometimes have similar problems overthinking and having a hard time socializing with people, so this movie really hits home for me and I think it shows very well, how we can always forgive others and ourselves.

      It's the same for me with that scene, it's the ending as you said and also that moment on the rollercoaster between Miyoko(Sahara) and Shoya that really get to me "But then one day I decided that I was going to wait till after the ride to decide if it's scary or not, can't help feeling a little scared though" Social anxiety is a difficult thing to fight through but I try to keep that quote in mind so hopefully someday all the X's will disappear and I'll be able to make friends.

      What about Ishida's attempt? For me I was curious at first and when the flashback came in, I cried because I can relate with him.
      But I wasn't the bully nor the victim. It was at 4th grade I started losing a lot of friends. In 5th grade I only have 1 then in 6th grade to now, I'm alone.
      Damn loneliness got to me. This is also the cause on why I always talk to myself.

    For everyone who didn’t read the manga, Shoko’s mom is being so hard, expressionless and not afraid of getting physical is because in the manga they explained how her husband and his family despised of having disability daughter, they know Shoko is deaf and decided to divorced her and leave her entire family, so her mother is alone and have to raise her daughters alone with only granma help, and she become so hard towards Shoko because she thought it was for her own good, so she raised her as a normal girl and don’t want to put her in the special treatment or special school so she can be accepted as a normal human being, it’s hurtful really, because she came out to be mean, but she did what she think it’s good for her daughter, to be tough, she don’t want her to easily get hurt or give up well bcoz she’s through so much pain too…as a mother i can see why she did what she did…
    Oh, and also, Yuzuru was purposely cutting her hair short and dressed like a boy for protecting her sister 🥲 she knows her sister gone through a lot, with her mother being rigid and stern and hence her granma said that yuzuru has a pure heart 🥲

    I've always loved this movie (and, of course, the original manga which has even more character depth and helps with a few of the oddities in the movie) because the topic hit very close to home for me. In middle school, I was bullied constantly and eventually moved because of my dad's work. I stayed in contact with one of the few friends I had there and years later, I went to visit him for his birthday and he told me that the guy who had bullied me was bullied in turn and had come and asked my friend how I was doing. I forgave him instantly then.

    Yeah, this is a really emotional movie. So sad, yet so beautiful. It's masterfully done.
    BTW, she technically did say "I love you" to him. In Japan, people very rarely actually say "love", even if they're a couple or even married (it's mostly reserved for family members). They say "I like you", but it does mean "I love you", or translates to it.
    Also, the reason he saw all those Xs over people's faces was because he couldn't bring himself or allow himself to look people in the eye.

    I love it, it is a great movie even though it doesn't cover the whole source material. In source material there are moments that really define scenes like the time they fight in the classroom - in the manga Shoko actually smiles during the fight, and I think that's because for the first time they communicated (even thought it was through physical violence); she expressed her anguish and he treated her as an equal for at least a bit. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the manga was very special to me, and this movie did not betray that feeling. It was well done, and I'm kinda glad they did not cover the rest of the story but stopped where they did in the movie, because that is the essence of the story. Not to mention how beautiful it was :D

    I’m legally blind and have been suicidal in the past. This movie legit had my crying like I haven’t cried since my father passed away several years ago. There are other reasons related to very similar romance stuff in my life that help me to relate as well. I honestly can’t express how deeply this film struck the core of who I am as a disabled person with a very relatable background to it. What I can say, is that I see myself very much in the main character’s shoes and I also see a lot of my girlfriend(soon to be wife) in this film as well. Further, this a genuinely good take on what it emotionally feels like to be disabled and depressed about it. I’m past a lot my struggles now and heading towards successful career in law with someone I love beside me. However, if this had come out 5-7 years earlier, then I think it might have changed my life. If you gotten this far through my ramble, then thank you for reading and I wish you well.

    Great reaction! My favorite thing about this movie is the cinematography of itself. Through production, many parts were scrapped simply because it would be way too long of a movie and they didn’t know how to present it from the manga to film. However, my favorite thing is how they represent anxiety / social anxiety. Often people with anxieties will look at the floor to avoid talking or interacting with others. There are many scenes where this happens. Where the shots will be taken from the ground. In all honesty, I didn’t expect the movie to be great, since I’ve read the manga beforehand. This deserves everything because it’s honestly a masterpiece : )

    It deals with alot of difficult subject matter and also tells the perspective from the bully rather than the victim. Tho shows good growth and development.

    First off Great Reaction, I will say this movie is a lot more clear with the Dub than sub. It's very hard for those who don't watch Anime regularly to understand the context of certain japanese speech. I think that lead to your initial confusion in the beginning with the Mom being upset about him wanting to commit suicide and the confusion to why he was paying her money.
    He was paying his mother back because she essentially emptied their saving to pay Shoko's mother back for the hearing aids that he destroyed. I know it wasn't on here but Japanese people are extremely prideful and have a strong sense of duty and honor. That's why his mother most likely ripped her own earing out of her ear to compensate for Shoya did to shoko when he pulled out the earing.
    Before any comments overhear start shouting Sub is always better than Dub, no it's not, it's to the preference. There is a reason why things are localized in other areas, Speach is not universal and something simply don't make sense with a Direct Translation.
    Great reaction though! Keep up the good work!

    • @carlyparker4410
      @carlyparker4410 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The dub was more clear that the sub for English viewers, I agree there. I did interpret the earring part differently though, and I am not sure which is right so it's interesting to hear that shouts mom might have ripped her own earring out. I thought shokos mom reached over a ripped it off, based off the other times she is showed slapping people I though maybe she was more aggressive and ripped it out in anger. But maybe shoyas mom did herself idk, but it's interesting to think about.

    • @gbautista100
      @gbautista100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For your average American audience, dub will likely provide the better experience. But objectively, the sub voice acting is always better. Japan uses legitimate stars for these roles, as opposed to a random Canadian company handling the dubs. Also, for the context of this story (Japanese students in Japan), English is not authentic.

    • @ex366

      @@gbautista100 Most dubs are done by American companies...

    • @mr.j3149
      @mr.j3149 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gbautista100 It is not objective that is subjective, it is your opinion literally the opposite of objective. Sub also takes your eyes away from the scene itself, little details can be missed while reading. It also doesn’t help when the subtitles don’t even have proper sentence structure.
      I have never complained about someone preferring sub, it’s simply not my preference. You cannot say sub is objectively better because it’s simply not, it may be your opinion that it’s better and I can say your wrong and that’ll be my opinion. She has watched everything dubbed and loved it.
      What I said still holds truth, languages don’t directly translate which is made evident by the subtitles of this movie. Their is no problems localizing it, because literally every movie is localized in other territories. So what I get from your comment is that you would have preferred her to be confused, even though the story is what matters, just to satisfy your need to feel like your opinion is right and superior?
      You cannot say their always better because you can’t even understand them, for all you know Japan could feel like some of the acting is cheesy and bad and you wouldn’t know the difference.

    • @mr.j3149
      @mr.j3149 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carlyparker4410 violent in the sense she was protecting her daughter, but Japanese people are very stoic and believe that actions are stronger than words. Kinda how to ask for forgiveness the bow on the ground. Or how they might go above and beyond like shoya does to makeup for their misdeeds. An eye for eye.
      Most likely the conversation went along these lines.
      “The money will not repair the damage he did to her ear” and the shoya’s mom ripped it out to pay back blood with blood.

    I think the "X" over faces thing is an accurate representation of avoidance and social anxiety. Disregarding others isn't just done when feeling insecure, but can also be done proactively in a way that seems rude. Ultimately it's about feeling safe, but the mechanism easily blends with judging others as a way of rationalizing to oneself why one does it.
