- To celebrate Virtua Fighter 5 Revo on PC with Rollback, a side-by-side comparison of the game between Xbox 360 with Virtua Fighter 5 Vanilla (2005) and PS5 (PlayStation 5) with Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown.
Left Side = Xbox 360 (2007)
Right Side = PlayStation 5 (2021)
Information featured in the video:
VF5 = 2005 = Location Test
What is a "Location Test"?
It is a version made available to a select group of people to test the game's balance before its official release.
We can say that, although Virtua Fighter 5 was officially released in 2006, the game was already complete in 2005, during which several tests were conducted in various locations across Japan.
So, there's nothing wrong with "2005" in the thumbnail. Yes, the Xbox 360 version was released in 2007 (as mentioned in the video), while the PS3 version was released in 2006. Keep in mind that both versions are based on VF5 Vanilla.
VF5 Location Test = 2005
VF5 Version B = 2006
VF5 Version C = 2007
VF5 Ver. D / VF5R = 2008
VF5 FS Version A = 2011
VF5 FS Version B = 2015
VF5US = 2021
VF5 R.E.V.O. = 2025
Proof that Virtua Fighter 5 is from 2005 and not 2006 is this IGN article dated November 26, 2005:

Your bias for Xbox shows kiddo...
The PS3 Virtua Fighter 5 was released in Japan and North America in the second half of 2007 and the Xbox 360 port was released in 2008...
Привет, а есть возможность сделать сравнение Omikron: The Nomad Soul?
Yes you're right.
I was about to post it but you already did. Location Test 2005 , when we were still playing PS2..! 😨(SEGA AM2 are beasts )
@@michaelromeo9567 hey back then Virtua Fighter 4 had gotten a couple of revision while running on the SEGA NAOMI 2 arcade hardware iirc as early as 2001 arcade version and they were building up to make Virtua Fighter 5 given the success VF4 maintained in Japanese arcades and on the Sony PS2 with it's massive install base in Japan alone and the potential for Western regions which was somewhat mishandled by Sega of America's decision to label the second PS2 revision of VF4 aka VF4 Evolution as a red label Greatest Hits line when it was a SECOND revision and unlike the first version was made on a DVD-ROM with much more advance SEGA-AM2 programming that was much closer to the arcade version.
So because of Microsoft pushing next generation jump in 2005 it was that Sega made a guess or estimation of what the PS3 specs might be on the entry level and as such Sega decided to use a PC parts set up with one Nvidia GeForce 6800 256MB graphics card...
If you ever see the graphics of the arcade version of VF5 it looked superior to the older NAOMI 2 hardware but when the first and initially exclusive to Sony PS3 version of VF5 released in 2007 for the purpose of the early adopters in Japan and giving westerners an early entry into Virtua Fighter 5 because SEGA was still struggling to build a VF fanbase so obviously the older adult gamer would have the money to buy a launch PS3 however all the mess of fear mongering and price whining and telling people that "wait and see" and "PS2 BC is not needed" was going around back then so when VF5 released on PS3 all the major corporate western reviewers decided to take shots at the game for not offering online battles when VF5 was still early in being released in arcades (note the main idea still was to have the home version to train at home to then attend arcades for the larger scope which was not a problem in Japan but those biased reviewers kept insisting like arcades don't matter so they even mentioned they took points away for lacking online play which is bias and shill behavior
And later one of the Gametrailers reviewers or hosts kept telling a Sega Japanese representative to make VF5 for the Xbox which again was shill behavior... Sega gave in and made VF5 for X360 with online play to crickets on the Xbox crowd... unless the sales would have spoken, that shill treatment towards Sega and Virtua Fighter as a franchise and PS3 because some fanboy is trying to prevent PS3 from selling is the reason why we eventually lost physicial release versions for Virtua Fighter.
The characters look better, but environments on the original look MUCH better. They cut a lot (and I mean A LOT) of details out of the environments on the new version.
It is so interesting to see, how the remastered graphics on the ps5 are much superior, but at the same time, it fits in as a "regular modern fighting game". On the other hand, imagine seeing the graphics on the 360 version on 2005, it was probably hard to believe it was real-time! I looks amazing on it's own terms.
Almost 20 years between these two. New console generations ain't what they used to be.
I mean, you have to take into account this title has nowhere the near the budget to get a ‘current’ gen graphics.
Compare Tekken 8 to Tekken 6, massive difference.
Especially since this is just another updated version of the ported version of the game, to include rollback, it’s not going to look much bettef
That generation is regres to others, its shame that PlayStation make us fools😢
@@fishychips08 Say that while playing Black Myth Wukong. Current gen consoles have great graphics. The problem is lazy devs releasing mediocre titles when they have the tools available for amazing graphics but they don't care.
@@pian-0g445 compare Tag 2 instead. It was a 360/PS3 game and looked better
Graphics have had diminishing returns since Scud Race in 1996 (Ironically that game was made by AM2 as well)
I first played Virtua Fighter 5 as a minigame in Yakuza 6, I was blown away on how a whole another game exist in a different one, and it was fun too, plays kinda like Tekken. I think I'm gonna get the PC version if it's gonna come out there.
@@muhtaqiyyan2004 interesting you say that. As Virtua Fighters came out before tekken. in fact the first Tekken was designed by some of the designers of Virtua Fighters.
"plays kinda like Tekken" 😂
@@dreamares2911 Ya I heard that, but I knew Tekken first, hence the impression.
@@Albert-lj5jb I mean it's true, it would be wrong if I said it plays like Mortal Kombat 😅
@@muhtaqiyyan2004 This plays very differently from Tekken. Even just having a guard button makes it play very differently.
Then there's the fact that all attacks are throw-invul, or that throws are the fastest attack in the game, DM and OM, side-turned mechanics, etc.
More than being amazed by the new graphics (great), this only makes me love the Xbox 360 even more, 2 generations and that machine is still going strong.
The characters is getting a big improvement on the clothes' textures, hair and especially their eyes. They're no longer bug-eyed like in the old version. LOL
However, I prefer the stages' gimmicks like the mud arena, petal-filled Japanese garden or the foggy Chinese temple and the overall stronger lighting in the old version.
Yeah. Old satges had something very unique , and light special effects were better in the old games..
Vf4 models look better than Both Vf5 models
Some things look better in the original, and some stuff looked better in the new version 😅😮
For a 2007 Xbox 360 it looks quite stunning. Especially some of the stage elements like Shun's stage's water looks better for some reason. For facial features and clothing the PS5 version stands out. 11:27 Lau forehead shows he's aged quite a bit. Also I just noticed they pretty much took character's old stages and updated them. Shun's, Lau's, Wolf's and Sarah's in particular.
Would it be crazy to say I think the original art style looks more appealing? Like, I know the new one has higher graphical fidelity, but I dunno, I kinda like the way the old one looked better, specially the hair. The new hair on looks very chunky, the original had this nice texture work that let you see the strands without making them a bunch of clumps glued together like the new one. Some of the characters faces and stage redesigns are also straight downgrades, poor Jackie looks like a neanderthal with his pronounced brow ridges
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, is really impressive for a modern 3D fighting game released in 2024. But there is something special about first seeing Virtua Fighter 5 in 2006 in arcades.
I never got to see it in the arcades. By 2006 almost every arcade in my state had shut down. We actually have more retro arcades now than we did back then. The last time I got to see a new coin op fighting game was Soulcalibur III.
The lighting in the original is better, something about the 360 era focused a lot on lighting and how it helps set the mood.
Halo 3 being another example.
US has bumped up the fighters' polygon count quite significantly, but I kinda like the Vanilla's level designs and overblown lighting. Very atmospheric.
New version has better character textures but their stages have been nerfed.
The latest installment of a game that's older than Skyrim and GTAV!
Heck older than Gta iv!
Compared to VF5, in VFUS the men are cooler and the women are incredibly ugly.
X360 Wins - Flawless Victory 🥸 Animality
damn the graphic of the original looks amazing even though it's been 17 years since release.
VF5 R.E.V.O has better character models.
Yet there's also gorgeous stage in the original.
But overall, i'm picking this game up for VF6's sake!
the ps5 graphics are soulless and look like any other modern game, am2 games usually stand out graphically
They are trying to port VF5 from VF Engine into Dragon Engine (the Yakuza games' engine.)
Almost the same as how Tekken 7 was made changing engine from Tekken engine to Unreal.
The next VF should be the real graphical upgrade when the team will have already honed their tools by then.
We just need to worry about the game mechanics / designs changes they will make.
My only complaint is the skies aren't BLUE enough in R.E.V.O graphics. We need those 🎶 BLUE BLUE SKIES! 🎶
They changed a few stages from daytime to night, VF always felt like a fun colorful game and the day stages fit the vibe more
I started gaming in around 1990, graphics jumped a lot more in 2005, then they did in 2020. Open world games have benefited the most in game tech advancements, but not everyone wants to play those.
@vcdecide where did you find that ost on 4:34? I noticed its a version of VF3's Gostropolis ost.
VF5US is a PS4 game compatible with the PS5, if you prefer VF5FS you can emulate the PS3 version on PC with RPCS3, there's even online play.
I like the look of the original.
Someday after Grand Theft Auto 6 and Elder Scrolls 6 have released, Sega will be ready to unveil their new fighting game: Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Final For Real This Time REVO Championship Edition, featuring Unreal Engine 6 graphics and half of a new character.
Whats the name of the first song during the continue screen?
Too bad for the backgrounds they really changed them so much and in most cases not for the best
The new one has better lighting and textures obviously. But it has a worse anti-aliasing solution, and the jagged hair looks artificial and leaves a lot to be desired in the new version. Hopefully the PC version will allow for better AA solutions.
@@gorofujita5767 When was the last time you played on Xbox 360? These games didn't age well and look terrible on a 4k TV!
New graphics are nice, but I prefere the old Sarah model, they changed her face shape.
I dunno. I like Her Vf4 model more than Vf5
So they fixed the colors. Excellent use of 20 years time.
They got rid of the stylish "LED" (what is this tech properly called?) countdown numbers. 😥
I had the XBOX 360 version then I gone with a friend to test the PS5 version and the first thing I noticed is that all girls were flattened in their backs specially Sarah in her blue tight suit, so sad, if it come to PC I hope modders can fix it.
Sucks 2 decades later and there's no Virtua Fighter 6 yet worse yet this remaster don't look much better at all
Aoi's 2P costume has a censorship in VF5US😥
Glad i have Vf5 and Vf4!
20 years later and the game only looks slightly better. You thought Capcom was stuck on Street Fighter 2 for a long time.... it's been 20 years and Sega still can't count to 6.
This image of the PS5 is without an update, right? lol
PS5 version looks like every fighter has a lack of sleep + DEI uglification 10:15 😂
Xbox always looked better than PS 😅 Games now expire regres. Older are better than newer😊
Removed scene reflections to avoid losing performance on current consoles...
Xbox 360 Win
I've always felt original VF5 looked much better than Final Showdown because of those changes in lightning and details cut from the enviroments. That's the big problem, Revo and all its content is based on Final Showdown/Ultimate Showdown, not the base VF5
Vf4 has Better Models than Vf5
Would be good if you could do the original Lindbergh version of VF5
They do more with the character models and lighting in the new version. They also do the same thing with every character model and the lighting, because Akira and Sarah looked too dramatic.
And Pai's new stage needed to run on the 3DS, I assume.
Please do GTA3 PS2 to SEGA Dreamcast ported new version😊
Dreamcast is emulating PC version so not really the best representation of what it could of done had it been a real Dreamcast version still impressive though
I’m glad the 360 version is Backwards Compatible
So R.E.V.O. will look even better than the PS5.
Cant Make a Virtua Fighter 6. Sad for You Sega!
Character better ps5, environment better 360
Espero que em VF5REVO tenha uma opção de uso de gráficos de versões anteriores.
Eu acho que VF3 ainda tem gráficos incríveis, mesmo pra hoje em dia.
Que dirá VF5.
They got everyone's face right in the Ultimate Showdown remaster, except for the poster boy, Akira Yuki... I really don't like the facelift he got on this.
I like his Vf4 model Better than Both of Them
Anyone know the name of the first song?
i also wanna Know Me and you are looking for it brooooo
Epic music
ok so they just remaster? im dont know this but what a cheap move they can make new VF but hey better remaster this XDDD for full price and dlc characters :D
Yeah I'll stick to my colourful 2005
I miss that mud
For some reason when I look at the two versions the Xbox 360 looks better looks better.
Mostly better on PS5, but X360 isn't bad at all... 😄
I am the Ultimate!
I personally prefer the original.
I didn’t like new faces of characters. Especially Akira, Sarah and Jacky. They look like applied botox on their faces 😢
VF5 Final Showdown was the better version.
(c)2005-2025,2026 Paramount GLobaL. (c)SEGA.
It certainly does NOT look better
I see almost no difference
Xbox 360 and Xbox Series X.
La versión next gen está muy simplificada en cuanto a detalles
Talk about Xbot fanboyism to the extreme here... the Xbox 360 Virtua Fighter 5 was released in 2008... smdh
Não percebi grandes mudanças
Lo mismo con un poquito más de brillo y iluminación
The new version is much better.
I see no worth while difference
360 wins , ps5 sucks
Almost no difference between these generations... Honestly say I was waiting for a lot of PS5...
So much downgrade
Compare to the ps4 version.
Nah. Make a Vf6!
there's no ps5 version, just a ps4 version that is compatible with the ps5
