I've been thinking about using my old Rode NT1-A as a mono OH, this was just the video i needed to convince me to try it out. Thanks!
That's great to hear. Best of luck with it 😁
Rode's definitely a lot cleaner in the high end, less smear, sweet comparison!
Rode is cleaner however the mxl has a 80s vibe to it.
Cymbals are clearer on the mxl on AKG monitor headphones...
The snare sounds much more free and open with the Rode.
i agree and i wonder why , is it a good or a bad thing? i can also here more the sound of the room with the Rode
I like your snare sound ! Can you share what model you use and what heads you have on ? Thanks !
Thanks Jeff, it's a Pearl Sensitone Phosphor Bronze 14x6.5 snare and in this video I used an Aquarian Studio-X Texture Coated
@@DonalBowens Nice, thanks for the answer ! Is there a specific reason why you use a single ply head instead of a double ?
@@jeffsternon5062 I was just experimenting at the time to be honest. I generally avoid single ply because of the lack of durability these days though. Right now my favourite snare head is the remo p77. I also really like the remo controlled sound.
Thanks for the video ..would you pick the NT1 or NT1-A as an overhead mic for percussion/gongs drums etc ?
Never tried the NT1, but both would work great 👍
@@DonalBowens oh thanks! They say the A is good for percussion.. so just deciding which. Cheers T

Mic on the kick? Or just the overhead?
Overhead only. Thanks
Same sound
