    I watched your video before I read the installation packet. I chose to go with your video for installation instead of the instructions that came with the door. I put it up in 2 seconds - with no problem. My door is 36 wide by 80 tall. It was my third door - trying to find the adjustable door was a problem. My landlord bought the door and dropped it off for me to install. I never told her I was a handyman but I worked it out. Thanks for the video...

    I fell for all the five star reviews on the Lowe's website. I bought two of these doors. They really are crap. The door itself and the screen are decent enough. The flaw with the design is the spring loaded expanders. I got the door all lined up and in place just like the video shows. I carefully tightened the four screws on the expander sections. You have to be extremely careful because the screws don't actually screw into anything. they rely on the tiny bit of friction created by pushing the expander section against the door frame. I thought everything was great, and I was about to write another glowing review for the Lowe's listing. And then my wife went to open the door. The two screws on the bottom expander slipped. The door dropped an inch and fell out of the casement. We spent the next half hour trying to put it back into place, but now the two screws on the bottom expancder section are useless. They just turn and turn and turn. Nothing ever gets tight. It's amazing to me that they designed such a ridiculous weakness into this door. For just a few pennies more they could have designed it so that the four screws actually screw into something like a nut or something similar. I hope I can get Lowe's to take these crappy doors back.

      @@imagemaker666 Sorry, but your negative review was based on the door being damaged when it fell off your frame, clearly stripping the screws..then you spent 30 min trying to jerry-rig a damaged door instead of bringing the door back for free replacement? This, my friend is what we call "user-end" issues" not the product itself. If the door wasn't damaged or if you'd simply returned it once you realized the screws were stripped, you'd be joining the rest of the 5 star reviews.

    • @wyattspop
      @wyattspop 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and for the record, don't pursue a career in engineering or construction in general for that matter, this could not be designed with a "nut" as you off-handedly guessed at, the nut would have to be internal, and totally inaccessible to the installer, rendering it useless. Had you not accidentally damaged the door, you'd never have needed it to screw into anything, the screws secure the spring-loaded bracket more than firmly enough to do the job perfectly. This door is great quality and a bargain at $98, even came with a stepped-up screen material that I had to pay a screen door company to replace my screens with to stop our dogs from tearing it with their nails. You may want to base future reviews on the products prior to accidental damage during your install. Next time return the item, Lowes would have replaced it immediately

    I purchased this door as a replacement for a Pella Thermstar sliding patio screen door. It installed perfectly the first time, and is much stronger than the one it replaced. It even came with the heavier duty screen and steel rollers, both of which I expected to have to purchase separately. My only problem is that I threw away the latching hardware and Grisham doesn't have the replacement parts in stock.

    I only needed a vertical of 77 5/8"... As such I was able to leave the bottom wheels basically grounded and adjust top & bottom only for verticality. I still was very careful with the philips screwdriver on both, but it works beautifully.
    Furthermore, I used those cork-squares that were stuck on for - I assume - stacking on their sides, to make a little ramp taped into the upper track so that the width of the outside of the adjustment system didn't bang on the vertical edge of my door frame as it came to close. I used 2 of the other corks to prevent the 'slam' into the frame as it closes. ( I also plan to make a little block at the opening end to keep the door from over-crossing the center-vertical stile of my main door...)

    This is an outstanding product, it even comes with an upgraded screen material in case you own a dog, keeps your dogs nails from ripping the screen, and steel rollers that used to be nylon. Every last negative review here was due to people who can't follow even simple directions, they either bought a size clearly not in the range listed, or they over-torqued the screws and stripped them (even that can be fixed in 2 seconds with a slightly "fatter" screw. If you have no handyman skills, pay a pro to do your home repairs, don't blame the product LOL

    @GrishamBros how you reply so politely to the "negative" reviews is amazing, to all those here who over-torqued the screws and damaged their new doors, then blamed the product....are you kidding me? You practically have to crank the screws in tight enough to bend metal before this door would strip. The rest of you don't know how to use a tape measure, the size range is clearly marked, your door frame was too big and you blame the dealer? Pathetic.

    Is there a way to replace the rollers? I have this door and have trouble keeping the expanders tight, then they slipped and as door fell out it broke a piece of the rollers out. Looks like they aren't replaceable and now I need a new door? Bought house with old screen door already and it lasted another 12 years (replaced rollers once), then bought this one and it lasted about a year and seems to need to be replaced because expanders don't work well and now rollers damaged.

      Syed, the model with the height adjustment to 80-3/4" was discontinued and replaced with a unit that adjust from 76" to 79-1/2" inches high. More than likely you purchased the 79-1/2" screen . I tried to install this door (Grisham #0877539) today without success. My opening height is 77 5/8" from top track to bottom track , and the door is about 1/2" too long to go into both tracks, even with top & bottom expanders at their smallest (no expansion whatsoever). I've tried putting the bottom in first, and the top won't go in. Then I tried the top in first, and the bottom won't go in. I've tried with all expanders unscrewed all the way to all expanders tightly screwed in the shortest position. Is their any other adjustment to get the extra 1/2" shorter that I need? Or do you make a slighter shorter door?

      James,
      Does the packaging indicate the 77-1/4" to 80-3/4" fit range? I`m wondering if you purchased a clearance unit prior to the revised sizing. If not, the 877539 model should compress and fit easily.

      @@grishambros7662 Thanks for getting back with me on the same day that I emailed. Yes, the packaging indicates that it fits the 77-1/4" to 80-3/4" range. I bought it yesterday (5/15/20), but it WAS on clearance. Is that the problem, and is the revised sizing model slightly shorter? Does the door with revised sizing have the same model number?
      As I said, even at full compression, the door was just slightly too tall to fit in the tracks. I even tried removing both the top and bottom expanders completely to see if I could shrink the height down enough, but it still wouldn't go in.

      If the packaging states the 77-1/4 to 80-3/4" then you have the model with the correct sizing range. Not sure why the unit does not fit. I just grabbed a unit and was able to compress to the 77-1/4" size range. The new units replacing the clearance models have all of the same features with the exception of a slightly wider frame.
