My pecan tree challenges me with the flower bed under it. I did buy a few of your suggestions this year. All perineal for a change. Lol. Thanks for sharing and fingers crossed! 💕

Thank you for answering so many posts. I can't find a single video on how to create more shade. It's amazing how many results complain about having too much of it when historically humans tend to clear whatever land they're on, and planting a maple tree in the yard does not in 15 years create a shade garden. I'm starting with a yard that's a blank slate except for a single tree and the shade of the house. I'm afraid after I plant more trees I'll be watching them grow slowly for years while I wish I was working with my favorite woodland plants. I want to landscape my shade garden with a water feature.

That sounds like a wonderful goal, keep in mind large evergreens, perennial grasses and decorative fences can also help add shade to a garden faster than trees can. Thanks for watching.

at the 1 min mark, what is that tool you used? Looks like a small chain saw, but less threatening & easy to use.

DeAnn, check the tag on the hydrangea you purchased, most prefer full sun, others will tolerate a bit of afternoon shade. for other shade plants visit this link on our website where you can narrow down your options! www.provenwinners.com/plants/search

I am looking for information about taking a brand new yard surrounding a new build home that has no spaces created to be shady..yet.
I would like to see examples of spaces that were started from scratch and turned into shady havens in the yard. There is nothing nicer on a hot summer day than to go into an area of your yard that is several degrees cooler than other spaces and be protected from the hot sun because someone created shade with trees...bushes..fencing. Then...lovely plantings and seating areas. Maybe water features too.
Can you direct me to some online videos or books/magazines that address my questions? Thankyou..and I always enjoy your videos.🏡

One of the best places to start is your local garden center. They are familiar with your climate and your soil type. Take a picture of the areas, do one at a time, and show them at the store. Many garden centers also have a landscaping department, and professionals to help, which may be the best way to go, they often create landscape designs at no cost if you buy the plants from them

It’s so frustrating when all of these gardening videos on TH-cam are based in the south or other east. I’m in Los Angeles and there’s absolutely nothing on TH-cam for people like me. Frustrating.

What are the growing conditions you need to focus on? Often it is not the location, but the growing zone, light and humidity levels, etc that you need to keep in mind.
