@@Sup_8 i don’t have the sax yet but what do you suggest to do first? I watched that video about the embouchure. What would be next step? I also downloaded apps with finger charts.
@@melissaramphort depends on what your goals with the sax is, if you want to end up playing tenor, and your also a big enough person, I would start on tenor if that is an option for you, tenor uses a bit more air, but also makes it a bit easier to get certain notes out, and in my opinion sounds better. As for brands I recommend for a beginner, I would say go with a student model Jupiter, or Selmer, and for next steps after you are able to get notes out would be to learn all the basic fingerings from low d to high c, this will make it easier in the long run for you, and once you feel like you are getting better and want a small upgrade possibly, I would upgrade your ligature to a Rovner, and your mouthpeice could also be upgraded too, for jazz I reccomend jodyjazz, or bettersax burnin, and for classical I would go with a vandoren👍
From what I’ve learned , when ever I use the last part and play a note I create a bite which takes away the prefect sound it’s suppose to make , I think there’s a slight misconception with the last part because I have big lips and they easily get caught biting and removing the sweet sound I like. Instead now I practice tightest around and leaving the bottom part loose while still resting my teeth on my embrochure
Hi, I am a beginner for about 3 months now and I am wondering should I be pushing down with my top teeth? I'm doubting if I should because my mouthpiece already has two little teeth marks on the top. I even tried one of those pads you can stick on it and I tore through it within like a day 😅. Could someone please help me out? Thanks.
You do apply little pressure naturally on top too and with some time practicing some teeth marks may appear at the mouthpiece pad. But by what you are describing you are applying way more pressure on top than you should. I would say that it is probably because you have a too stiff reed for a beginner, and with a untrained embouchure you are grasping at the top so your mouth don't disassemble as you are blowing too hard to produce sound on the stiff reed. But thats just a guess maybe you have the gear all good and are just pressuring too much and need to correct it
also he said something wrong, you should be rolling back your bottom lip over your teeth so that when you put your mouth on the reed it’s touching your skin below your lips. you don’t wanna like kiss it it’ll give you a worse tone. it’ll be uncomfortable at first but you’ll get used to it.
