- Guided fishing trip Conejos River Anglers. Micah was our guide. I captured my friend catching an estimated 12 lb 31 inch Rainbow Trout on the Conejos River in Magote Colorado. It was an amazing catch and great day! Micah and KK were great guides! My first time fly fishing and I had a blast! I caught one 21 inches and hooked an even bigger one that got off, Along with some smaller trout. Amazing fish! We own a cabin on the Conejos and we have caught huge trout. My biggest was a 10 pounder. You’ll usually only catch them on the untouched private stretches. Awesome to see!
How can you have private stretches on a navigable river ?

Angie Carmichael I’m not sure but can maybe find out! First time fly fishing for myself.. I had just hooked 2 big ones in same area with probably the same pole lol.. one we netted.. at least 21 inches but I dropped it trying to get the pic!! The other which my guide said was a monster jumped out of the river at least 10 feet and I ended up losing it.. Have fun! We had a blast! We took ATV Rangers all through the forest and up in mountains! Epic! Beautiful trail! Probably 100 miles.. all day thing, but there are short trails too in Forrest

That’s the biggest fish I’ve seen out of the Conejos easily. I have fished a lot of the public. No private. Maybe I should try to find a place with a reasonable rod fee. Anyone have a suggestion? Or cases of beer per hour ;)

Chandler, thanks! It was amazing! our friends have a vacation home there. We used Conejoys River Angler in Antonito for guided fishing. One of Our guides- Micah said the part we were fishing on (which wasn’t far from their fly shop) was private land the shop owners lease for fishing. I believe land owners names were Pat and Pam. It was beautiful! Also there were cabins and stuff on the land.. not sure if they rent them out or not.. we never saw anyone else

Fantastic fish but thats definitely not the way to treat a fish your planning to photo and release.
I was going to say that everything indeed bigger in Texas. But according to the comments, that section of the river is private and stocked with lurkers…expired breeders from hatcheries likely. Oh well, at least the video can serve as a cautionary tale on how not to handle fish in the net.
