    For thin metal sheets Try thin rubber strips or tyre tube strips for support on metal block or anvil.
    Stamp marking will appear very good,and stamp will not jump.

      Hi, good question. Unfortunately this is just one of the difficulties of stamping. Matthieu says that he usually just sands off the protrusion on the other side.

    Does it matter if your bench block is hardened or soft? Thank you

    • @RioGrande1944
      @RioGrande1944  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! Thank you so much for your question! No, when stamping, that should not matter because you're not stamping deep enough to damage the block. Most bench blocks are hard enough to stamp on without causing issues.

    Is there any advantage to using a steel hammer to strike the tools like that? I generally use brass hammers for this work to preserve my stamps, but I still have a dedicated steel hammer for stamps that is my lightest one for the smallest stamps. It does feel like there is some sort of difference between how sharply the chisel or punch bites into the piece when switching between brass and steel, curious if you've noticed this too.

      Morgan, thank you for the question! Here is Matthieu's response: I think both work well! I always used a steel hammer since the day I started stamping.
      I think it is mostly about the weight and the force used to strike.
      I don’t think a steel hammer would damage the stamp or at least it doesn’t for me.
      I hope this is helpful

    If I'm using an anvil that is screwed to a piece of wood is that enough ?. I'm having trouble getting the stamp perfect the first time. I'm not sure if I'm using the wrong metal or if I'm not hitting it hard enough, or I should have a softer metal underneath or something soft? underneath.

      Hi there! You have to really give it a good hit but make sure the lever to open and close is out of your way so you do not hit it and break it with your hammer.
