      Liked the watch strap pun there 🤣 But all in all I'm sticking with my cheap running watch (Polar Pacer) + smartwatch combo, which come in cheaper combined (including a phone) than a 955 and are sufficient for my running needs. But the 255, I gotta admit, is looking interesting. They have resolved much of my complaints with the new features.
      A question, is the training status something it follows as a graph in the long run as Polar does with TrainingLoad Pro?

    Really nice. I will love to see your openwater comparisons. I have a 945 that after the 9.60 update is doing some weird things in OW swimming. Sometimes It shows me the correct distance (sort of) but the track on the map misses most of the swimming and only shows the start and finish location and some weird lines between. (That doesn’t match with the distance shown )

    Hi Matt, Thank you for this great video! I have the 945LTE that I bought on the sales (returnable for a while still) as a transition watch whilst waiting on the 955. A comparison would be great. Waiting the firmware update for the 945LTE to see if that makes it closer to the 955. Being smaller than the 955 is a good thing in my view. Would like the touch screen though as had the 610/20/30 and enjoyed that functionality. 955 screen is also a tad bigger I believe. Thanks!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, the 955 is a 1.3 inch screen vs 1.2 on the 945LTE. But the watch is over all a bit bigger also so that’d be the trade off. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Thanks Matt great video as always. I would love to see your open water comparison video, not a topic that gets covered a lot but would be worth it, especially against an Apple Watch. Just in terms of other video ideas have you thought about a video talking about each of these metrics and what they mean for people, such as HRV etc. it seems to me that the presentation of these very detailed and specific metrics in a more digestible format is the way that everyone is going atm?!

    Yet again, your b-roll and cinematography are amazing.
    Sounds like an amazing watch, but I'm going to be brutally honest when I say, "WOO HOO! 935s are about to get really cheap!!"
    My 920 is still rockin' like a champion, but I'd really like some of the metrics that the newer 9XX watches bring to the table. Most notably, real sleep metrics. (Because it has no built in HR sensor, my 920 says I haven't has a single minute of REM sleep since April of 2019. LOL)

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! 😂 I'd also look at this 255 as a very very good triathlon watch. It's impressive. I don't know how cheap the 935 can go. At some point these things have to have a bottom limit. And then at that point is it worth spending the extra $50 to get something newer? 🤷‍♂️ Either way, keep rocking the 920! That thing has been an awesome value. It's hard to say if you'll ever get as much value out of these new watches as you've been able to get out of that one.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 955/255 pins should be compatible with other quick release options. It's a little harder to get these watch straps off but then you can use the same pins and connect the easier quick release band systems to these watches. I actually haven't tested the 265 here on my channel yet. I hope to be getting one in the next few days and then it'll take me a few weeks of testing before I can post a review. • @mlegrand

      I have a 955 after 100 days video coming up but it won’t talk specifically about swimming too much. Lap swimming is pretty much the same on all modern Garmin watches. Let me know if you have specific questions about it but Garmin is my preferred swimming watch because they allow for a drill mode. So you can account for anything that the watch doesn’t automatically pick up and have an accurate distance swam at the end of the workout.

    Is the Solar version worth the extra $100 in your opinion? Seems like the non-solar version should have plenty of juice to get you through even a full Ironman race. Am I correct in this assumption? I guess my only reasoning for needing the solar version would be for an ultra marathon of some sorts, but I am a long way away from attempting anything like that LOL. Yes, all of these watches will try to track heart rate during swimming. I don't think I've ever really seen a watch that can do it well with the wrist based optical heart rate that's included. But it'll try. I'd probably suggest something like this 955 over the Swim 2. Thanks Enrique!

  • @bildGRAV

    Hello.
    I deliberately bought the 955 solar (used).
    Garmin has specific assignments regarding turn-by-turn directions.
    With a Forerunner watch, you get turn-by-turn directions when hiking, but not when cycling. You probably won't get turn-by-turn directions for hiking with an edge.
    I plan my routes either with Komoot or bikerouter. If I have planned a bike route and want to ride it with the Forerunner, I don't get any turn-by-turn directions.
    Is there a way to still get turn-by-turn directions?

    At this point, I would like to say an express thank you: I always find the tests to be very successful, and they supported me in my decision to buy the FR 955.

    • @mlegrand

      @bildGRAV 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mlegrand Good morning from Germany.
      I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year and thank you for the great test reports.
      The “problem” with turn-by-turn directions is only understandable if you only have a watch. There are then no turn-by-turn directions in Garmin connect that you can click on. If you also have an edge device, you always get the field with the turn-by-turn directions.
      Since I currently "only" own the Forerunner 955, I can click on the turn-by-turn instructions for all sports with "foot on the ground" (running, etc.). If I choose a sport without "foot on the ground" (bicycle, etc.), there is no option to click.
      If you have registered an edge in Garmin connect, the problem does not exist.
      I realize that the watches are not primarily designed for cycling, but that would be nice for occasional use on the bike.
      Garmin has special attachments for the bicycle handlebars. In my opinion, Garmin shows that it is possible to use Fenix, Forerunner etc. on the bike. In this respect, turn-by-turn instructions would be the logical consequence when traveling by bike.

    What about the auto detect FTP?

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I typically don’t trust it. But I think if you’re providing Garmin with enough variety of data that it could be pretty close. I’m always trying new bike computers and devices so I’m always hesitant to trust their predictive FTP. I’ve been using ramp tests lately and before that traditional 20 minute FTP tests. @@mlegrand Did you determine if the 945 LTE will receive the updates? I purchased a 945 for $355 (USD) but it has issues. (Currently the 945 is "on sale" for $425 all the time.) If I find out the coupon cannot be used on the 945 LTE sale price would you, knowing the current issues with the 955, 1) exchange the glitchy 945 for a replacement 945, $355 USD 2) return and buy a 945 LTE, $423 or 3) wait a few months when I am able to use the coupon on the 955 at $399.

    For sure what i can tell about 955 watch that it is not good for OW swimmings. Shitty tracking, inaccurate, especially when you switch direction. No matter how many meters swim 100m or 10000m. difference between real distance and what it shows on your watch is about 10-15% (less). really disappointed.

      Hi Linas, it's really good to get some feed back on the open water swimming capabilities of this watch. I've had pretty good results with this watch. Double check the GPS mode you have set for the open water swimming activity. Are you swimming in a lake or river? How are you measuring the distance to verify the inaccuracies in the 955?

      i did another experiment, i put inside my swimming cap another garmin watch and set on walking mode and then swam with 955 on my wrist and again it shows totally different figures then you compare autolaps of both watches. Watch which was on walking mode in my cap was much closer to real numbers.

      @@kalodzer1 - I wonder if the bridge itself is effecting the GPS accuracy. Similar to a tunnel that might block signal. I'm working on a video comparing a ton of GPS watches to each other. I'm following a similar method. I'll have a multi-band GPS model that sits on a buoy that I drag behind me. Here's data for the 955 vs the Epix with the 255 being dragged on the buoy: The data to look at is the tracking GPS data on the maps at the bottom. analyze.dcrainmaker.com/#/public/9ad3c516-189d-41e9-7ca9-4157ebf4fc3d
