seems a bit convoluted for a Knizia game. is the basic gist that it's a sequence of different combinations of actions/action versions, and then, some auctions in between?

@@tankana Rather than saying the game is a bunch of events with auctions in between, I’d say the opposite, the game is basically a series of auctions and risks to gain more cards, with actions in between. Subtle change, but everything builds around the auctions. I will say the rulebook is a bit longer and has a few more convoluted details like you suggested, but 10 minutes into the game you find that Knizia simplicity and high level of player interaction. Manage your cards and resources and exploit an opponents weakness when you know they’re low on cards to bid.

So when we draw cards at the start of a round, we don't look at them, right?

@@DeathTheKid4 you will look at your cards. So the first action is get 5 cards. Then the second action is, optionally, discard 2 and get 2 more. Basically a way to mitigate horrible luck of 5 “bad” cards to start the game.
Notably the only time you draw 5 cards is on the first board. There’s other chances to gain cards, but you never get 5 cards at once again.

@@BitewingGames The risk mechanic finally clicked for me, that's what I didn't understand mainly. I thought for the risk event you have to use the cards from your hand, but you actually have to draw from the deck which of course makes sense 😆 It really looks like a fun game and the other 2 as well. I'm very tempted right now
