Thanks for doing these documentaries on my idol, the only gentleman, I first saw in 1973 and had captivated my mind till now. Thank you Professor Baffour for writing a book on him and contributing to this documentary. This gallant soldier had save Gh from Busia disastrous policy of "alien compliance act" I will for sure visit his grave site next time I am back home. I still remember the 70s slogans of "Operation Feed Yourself and Pipipinpi Anifan Nifan Nani; Popopompo Anifan Nifan Nani, Abekum Abekum Yen Dzayi"
A lot of bad things have been said about I K Acheampong but after I did my own research about him, in fact, he was the best leader Ghana has ever had after Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah 👤🇬🇭🌍
Very likely because we borrow a lot as a country. The lender controls the narrative, unfortunately, mainly becos we are dependent on them. Imagine if the country heeded the "operation feed yourself", we could have been food secure by now and even sell some for hard currency. Instead, we have become procurement specialists for foreign made consumables.
It is not surprising that this conutry has been built on propaganda for so many years. Our leaders have always have selfish mindset which is affecting the progress of this great nation. Ghana would have been one of the greatest country in this world, if we had a visionary and self discipline leaders. God bless Ghana
Nkrumah's government did not go to IMF... The mere accepting Ghana to be a member country of the IMF doesn't constitute going to IMF. Nkrumah wanted to demonstrate to the west that he is not anti-west but a Non-Aligned hence the reason why he joined Ghana to the International Monitory Fund but never took a lone from the IMF. It was the disgraceful coup mongers and the Busia regime that went for the IMF lone yet the current government of Ghana appear to create the impression that Nkrumah went to take a lone from IMF. What a shameful country. No wonder, we don't seem to progress. Until we let truth stands (and stop lies and propaganda), Ghana will still be in a shitty state.
The best come and came from the west and the akyem and ashantis want to destroy it by writing off the history of western region only directing foreigners to mine our resources and we're quietly looking at them
Point of Correction #3: Acheampong's government never gave DK Poison 100,000 cedis ($87,000). On the contrary, they bortowed money from him which was not repaid until a few years ago by the William Kweku Akuffo Addo administration.
This guy really had Ghana at heart. Herh, if he was to be on the throne by now Ghana would have been different. I never supported a coup but I support this guys coup.
After the proud overthrow of Nana Nkrumah, the colonialists left them to fight themselves and came from their back to steal our resources And that's what they wanted And still stealing and destroying our water bodies
This histories need tobe tought in our basic education; our ignorant grandparents and parents ways tell us lies about this political histories. Not being fair to the kids coming
Too sad/bad our education system taught us next to nothing about Acheampong. Not even talked about the national anthem today starts with his version of the old anthem
The problem is the NPP ,UP people they don't want to hear anything about nkrumah and Igneous Kutu akyeampong ooo. They have succeeded destroyed their Legacy. Tey were too good for ghana
Carl Ploetner Ghana ltd later became Construction Pioneers Ghana ltd in Acheampong regime sign a joint company with local partner call Mijinyawa Mahatma and Sons ltd of Bawku in 1975
Point of Correction #2: the hospital built by Boakye Mattress between the Cantonments Police Station and Danquah Circle became the Ghana Police Hospital long before Jerry John came to power in 1979.
Poor journalism, if you don't do your research well you'd misinform with your lack of knowledge; a lieutenant colonel is NOT the same as a lieutenant. JoyNews go and check how much you've reduced Kutu's rank.
Borrowing isn't bad or the problem. It is what you do with the borrowing that is. If you borrow to invest in the country to generate wealth then it's a good thing. Developed countries borrow more than any other
...and who you borrow from, the conditions, the fine prints... (the lenders will not give you funds that will put you in a position to become their competitors)
Yet today ghanaians are afraid of military regime. Lets see around us what is going on in ither nations and their progress as compared to our present democracy. I think Ghana is better with the military governments than democracy
I don’t know who took history out of the curriculums of the Ghana educational system. We would always know Acheampong as the womanizer not knowing it is different.

Exactly❤
He was a good leader until he decide to spend resources on his union government agenda. I lived through that era.
He brought our misery up to date
A useless government he let to pull Ghana to the bottomless depths
He was a horrible leader and incompetent..
The Spirit of Acheapong is alive and well.
Thank you for this documentary.
Acheampong developed Ablenkpe alongside Dzorwulu please add this to his achievements. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
Dansoman, industrial areas, business, operation feed yourself etc all from Acheampong, his good works will never forgotten
15:32. That speech to the media still resonates today. God, why don't we learn from our past mistakes? 😭😭😭😭😭
I’m happy to see this at this time
Rawlings portrayed these men to Ghanaians as evils not knowing himself was the evil one.
May God forgive us all
General Acheampong was a great leader. I saw how the Operation Feed Yourself Programme helped the nation. He was selfless.
can we have the continuation?
A nation at war without an external enemy. That's the country we have called Ghana today. Everything is collapsing. Things fall apart.
Man, is that the only narrator you guys have got?

I.K was demonised not knowing he was a redeemer
Acheampongs government was the only government who did not go to I.M.F for loan.

This must serve as a "wake up call" for the current regime and their wanton corruption with impunity.
Ashantes are great leaders... If it's not jealousy Ashantes shld always be helm of leadership in Ghana
Nonsense
Nonsense..is Ashanti the only tribe in Ghana..even when Ashanti was a kingdom..they met resistance from other tribes in Ghana let alone today
The best come and came from the west and the akyem and ashantis want to destroy it by writing off the history of western region only directing foreigners to mine our resources and we're quietly looking at them
General Kutu Acheampong may your legacy live forever a Man with vision
Thank you

Great guy by all standards 👍🎉
May the soul of Gen Acheampong and his Generals rest in peace
This guy really had Ghana at heart. Herh, if he was to be on the throne by now Ghana would have been different. I never supported a coup but I support this guys coup.
Acheampong needs to be recognised by the state despite his military coup
We shall return

REST WELL GENERAL IK
Akyeampong was a good human being. Rawlings killed him because he was smarter than him. He had no blood on his hands unlike Rawlings.
👏👏
He could have made Ghana great again if he had lived a bit longer may he rest in peace 😢
😢😢
20m Cedis in the 70s was not equivalent to 20m usd. Until 2007, a dollar was 97p and not even 1gh.
Lieutenant Acheampong? 😂😂😂. Point of correction: he was a Colonel on 13 January 1972.
Yes you’re right but take your time and listen to what was said 😄. I had same confusion but i got it after i watched and listened attentively again
@@andybadu6489 Kutu was NOT a lieutenant on 13 January 1972, period.
@@goldenlady8333 you it’s ok. You’re right. I was only drawing your attention to something i realized when i thought of same thing. But it’s fine 😊
The problem is the NPP ,UP people they don't want to hear anything about nkrumah and Igneous Kutu akyeampong ooo. They have succeeded destroyed their Legacy. Tey were too good for ghana
Going by his reason for the coup, I’m sure he would’ve overthrown this Akufo-Addo government long time
So he never borrowed, and he was able to do so much for Ghana

That senseless coup was the beginning of our misery

A well done Documentary ....thanks for posting
Yet today ghanaians are afraid of military regime. Lets see around us what is going on in ither nations and their progress as compared to our present democracy. I think Ghana is better with the military governments than democracy
That's because of corrupt Rawlings.
