- El Hombre is a fan favourite in Supercross and a multi-time champion and after over 10 years as a pro, it looks like he is just getting started. The last few weeks have been insane in the 450 class so naturally we spoke about some of the chaos, we get into his championship season and how he came to resent that title and much more! Yeah well they have a stupidly powerful bike and the best suspension on the line its fine until you've got a different platform. They absorbed the best after the bike was sorted, if they do it on a new platform then it proves your point until then thats a superficial way to look at it.
@@lukekelly5115 I know there's way more to it than what I said, I kept it simple because I didn't feel like writing a novel.
There is a correlation between happiness and improved performance in athletes, it's not everything but it is a factor to their success.
It's debatable how big of a factor it is in terms of raw performance, but I think for keeping top level riders in the sport longer, it's huge.
The reason why I said it's the biggest factor to their success is because Craig Ferandis and Tomac are older riders, and the rest of their team are younger riders. Having an enjoyable environment means that the older riders are less likely to retire and the young riders are less likely to shrivel under pressure and burnout.
BlackSn0wz I agree about that. At this top level it is quite funny to me that people are brand loyal and think 1 machine is superior to another.
@@lukekelly5115 if the bikes were too underpowered or overpowered compared to the others, it wouldn't last long. no brand is superior in the pros

I'm a Tomac fan too, but at the end of the day it's going out and have fun riding a dirt bike professionally. And that's why i love this interview cuz I feel like he's just riding his dirt bike. And stay grounded..

Jason is one of my favorite racers if not my favorite. The one thing that turns me off and I don’t care how good you are is arrogance towards the fans and other racers. Jason has always been really down to earth and honest and I love his style on And off his bike. It was a great interview. See you in Salt Lake
YES! Another awesome podcast and associated videos to checkout. I love Jason's newfound fire. He's running over people. I think he is getting into too many trivial battles, but at least he has some killer instinct in his racing this year. The past couple of years he seemed to have been happy to finish where he was riding.
Living in New Mexico, I appreciate how he is one of our only stars. I sure hope he puts together another championship. As he is definitely a contender.

Great interview... Jason still is pretty down to earth seems difficult to not become just a total ego maniac. Baker Camp always develops winners but like Jason said once they all get about the same speed in my view nothing wrong with taking that knowledge and running with it training on your own.👍
really so how come Mookie has gone from a top 10 rider to a podium rider and his best results ever. he looks in the best shape he’s ever been in.
@@maverick2242 No question.. Baker camp is top notch especially for establishing a strong and consistent pace, cornering speed and conditioning at the highest of levels but other riders like Roczen Andersen, Cincerillo have maybe a stronger believe in oneself then others. Look at Mavin i think
he's been with the Baker camp longer then the rest no Championship yet. And then their is Tomac that trained alone for the most part and has Insane pace and stamina.
@@maverick2242 Mookie learned from the faster guys quickly. He had more potential. That was why Anderson didn't want to have Marv see him because he was the fastest at the time. So it does work to train with the best because Baker will get a winner. It's not about the fastest guy now, but teaching the rest that have the potential. Possibly the fasted now has more potential and the rest will bring it out the the current fastest guy. Anderson got it. I expected Marv to be #1 after Dungy retired. Disappointing. Really wanted him to get one.

With less than a week before the 2023 SX season begins and before I watched this video, for some reason I just started thinking Jason is going to be the guy this year. With so many other amazing riders I can't explain why, just a hunch. Before long we'll see if I'm right

If you wanna learn quicker, make it fun, Jason is a perfect example
Also if you want to stick to something, same thing. It's an old well known thing in that the best diet is the one that you'll actually stick to. Or like if you're working out, the best on is the one you'll actually do consistently. Making things fun in that regard a sort of life-hack for that. Works across tons of facets in life.
Theres not much fun about being a professional racer. Its a job and extremely streseful. Yes they get to ride their dirt bikes. For the 10th place finishers, it may be slightly more fun and laid back a bit. But for the top title contenders, def way more stress and hard work, than fun.

Its awesome to hear that even at the premire level the riders are very simuliar in their practicing / racing mentality , justcn at a higher level. All through my Amatuar years racing in New England I would NEVER practice with someone I competed against. 1) if i was faster they would learn my style, weak points , beat me from time to time ( or pass) if i was tired riding longer and they were fresh, or some people would do hot laps fresh to pass you, if they couldnt would slow a lap , pull over and try again, its such a head game to feel like you ALWAYS have to be fastest guy out there ALL the time, which is impossible so why take the risks and give them ANY confidence or lose yours, 2) If they were faster and you knew it , its hard not to struggle or hold them off when u almost know the outcome. Its better NOT to know who is fast and block all that shit out and beleive in yourself and push the whole race. I loved going to New tracks not knowing my competition and always did good or better. Its such a mental thing and that one thing is what seperates great riders from mediocre. Believing in yourself and never giving up. Race till the end and let the scorers figure it out instead of playing number games or settling. If you always race for championship points you lose your aggresion as you are playing the points game and settling for good finishes not wins. Sometimes going for the win makes you try way harder. Look at JS7 for that inspiration.
Seems pretty simple.. why would anyone want to train right next to their competition? I know I would rather line up and have them wondering instead of knowing exactly how our lap times compared all week or that I had a crash that's gonna effect me or whatever... And for my own confidence... I don't want to know if they're faster then me during the week.. I know race day is a different animal for a lot of pple but knowing that your practice laps have been slower cant help anything.. better off just being 100% confident and givin it the onion..

The way that some outsider like Aldon has multiple Championship guys from different competing teams has always been INSANE to me. Just on it's face, it's absurd. It makes sense why Eli, although he hasn't always won the Championship, has been arguably the fastest guy, because he trains at home alone, away from it all.
Yeah, it is insane. Couldn't be the PED program he has just like Tomac's dad has Eli on. Nope couldn't be that.

he brought the fitness and discipline of road cycling to an industry that had none. if you take a guy thats not quite as good and give him perfect diet and training then hes going to smoke the guys that just ride during the week when its 95 and rough
People dont realize so much of this behind the scenes mental stuff goes on. Its cool for us to hear, but also healthy for the athletes to have a medium to publicly vent and communicate these feelings off the track.

I can see training sessions providing a lot of content for riders now with TH-cam and Instagram. But I wonder why they went away from the closed doors secret training tracks etc from the ricky, reed, James era
Most riders don’t show too much footage of their training. You might see them hit some jumps and corners, but even brian Deegan said they watch what they put on their channel just so they don’t give their competition free lessons. As far as it being easier to go ride at tracks with pros, it has been that way on the west coast for a while and now it’s started trending more out to the east. Track’s can make a ton more money allowing amateurs to come ride with their favorite pros and keeps people ( fans ) coming as well. The sport and tracks can only survive if it’s bringing in money so they are doing what is best to help keep growing the sport. I wish I was born 20 years later though lol I loved growing up racing in the 90s and 00s, but man, everything from the bikes to the tracks to just everything is so much better now. Still wouldn’t change anything though. These kids will never know how awesome it was in the 90s.

Ok, so why does anyone think it's weird to not want to train with another rider that's slower? Everyone wants to train with faster riders. If you're the fastest, you gain very little, or at least less than what the slower rider gains from you. It's NOT like the saying....a wise man can learn from a fool, fool learns from no one. Motocross is not a team sport, despite they try to make it one. If you're the best, you don't want anyone to know your secrets or your extra "edge" factor that got you there. It's normal, it's human nature, animal nature....

If people think having Baker as a coach and not having him is the same than you just don't deserve the greatness of his career and riders. Baker has 15+ SX championships and 15+ MX championships under his belt (in 20 years), he made the best riders ever win more with him as the coach. If you think 1 championship won without Baker means you don't need him than you really don't deserve him. It's like saying you won 1 ring in the NBA without Phil Jackson as the coach and won 6-7 rings with him (while he won 10+ in his career) but still say you don't need him and you work as hard without him. Stats don't lie. Delusion is a heck of a drug. Peope who see talent as the main factor more than hard work don't like coaches as reasons why athletes win and are so great.

You understand Baker isn't a riding coach. He's a fitness coach who has a successful PED program just like Tomac. Is it just coincidence that both Baker and Tomac's father both are from the cycling world, which is the most doped sport there is.
