    Nearly nine years on, still a great straightforward guide 👍 bought my mk7 last week, heater resistor gave up yesterday! Glad to see it's a simple fix and they haven't hidden the part that fails behind the dash somewhere.

    Just done a 2010 Fiesta Zetec, took about 30mins, hardest part was trying to get into the right position to undo and refit the screws on the resistor pack, not easy when you are 6 foot 4, but all done, thanks for your video

    Brilliant. Even being 70 years old with a commensurately slow brain I found the instructions clear and complete. Having had to dislocate several joints to reach the top torx screw I'm amazed you were able to do it with one hand whilst also filming, although unlike yours my wife's Fiesta has a heather pipe running across the resistor. Took my old brain a minute or two to work out that the screws are easier to get to after first removing the plug. Doh!

    Just a note to mention for Mk 6 vehicles, the resistor is on the opposite side of the gear stick. The drivers side where the pedals are. A lot more tricky to get to, but it is possible. I depressed the clutch to get to the top screw and used a long thin alan key. The job is mostly done by feel rather being able to see. It is not a rush job, it took me nearly an hour to remove and replace just because of the awkwardness. Suggest open driver door fully and retract driver seat back as far as it can go. Jimmying clutch is not an option because the top of the pedal which swings forward can also become an issue. I suggest using left hand to depress and move accordingly. It would be an impossibility to film this, but use this video to imagine the location in reverse. I hope this blurb helps with folk looking for the UK version for the Mk 6?

    Thank you so much James, your tutorial was excellent. Me being 60 years old and a bit overweight, the only way I could get to it was to lay on the seats and move to where the resistor is placed. A small torch helped to see where the screws were. The only thing I could not do was to fit the panel back in the correct position. You made it look easy, it's a rubbish design, it's not back in the correct position at the moment, it was getting dark, so I'll tackle that task another time. There must be a knack?

    Nice one. I've been driving around for a couple of months with just the high blower setting, not ideal during the winter months when you need a constant supply of air to stop the widows streaming up.

      The hooked probe from a cheap hook and probe set may pull the screw or its housing out.

  • @BarryRudd1
    @BarryRudd1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good video but I would like to add that the resistor usually fails for a reason. The most common is a dirty cabin/pollen filter this causes the motor to work harder and use more current which causes the thermal fuse to fail. Could also be the motor bearing seizing up often due to water ingress. I go to a lot of garages who havent checked the filter and are on their second or third resistor.

    Thanks for your video . I can't help thinking that we are spoilt for low cost parts with Ford - not OEM . I remember having this problem on a Peugeot 405, many years ago - Peugeot parts wanted the ridiculous sum of £70 - some people would have paid that - not I.

    Nice one James - not the fix I was looking for but I need access in the same area for the blend door actuator and for nearly week I've just been reading it's complicated or got done under warranty. Most annoyingly people declaring they have the common clicking problem and the trail goes dead. So wasn't sure about taking apart the trim.
    Watching your video I can see the blimming part right there - at least I hope it is - so many thanks for that.
    Did you also have the common problem with a buzzing noise coming from the heat sensor behind the the climate control unit?
    I've got access to it just don't know how to detach it and /or dismantle it. Please do let me know if have knowledge on this.
    Can't thank you enough this clip!

  • @thomashulbert3091

    James, do you think a problem with this resistor would cause the blower to lose power (not come out of the ports as quickly) or would that likely be a loose duct connection?

    • @jameswilliams6576
      @jameswilliams6576  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Thomas Hulbert I'm not too sure on that one. This fault causes the heater blower to only blow on the highest speed setting (as it is connect to a different power source on the car, I believe). I'd say it's worth checking any loose connections just in case. It may be a simple case that something, like wet leaves, have perhaps got sucked up and lodged in the ventilation system. Don't quote me on it as I'm not seasoned mechanic!
