Also can be practiced on dry. Look into sensual waves such as those in bachata, basically the same principle
As for proof, I just returned to swimming after not doing so, at least actively for the last 15 years. First training in, no strength, awful technique, fighting for breath, but those dolphin kicks are looking half decent (after 2 years of dancing bachata)
