    Great video,thanks so much.Now i feel more confidant to begin a restoration on a 19th century German Stradivarius copy.The violin didn't cost a lot but it just has a good look and feel and is screaming out for a nice restoration job

    Smreeder could you do a short video or at least a written walk through on how to remove the fingerboard from the neck?
    Thank you,

    You are a genius man, you break it down to every detail.Awesome! How would you go about removing a damaged fingerboard without replacing the neck?

    We use steam... get a flask , rubber stopper with hose port , rubber hose , and a basket ball inflation needle and file the end off at a 60' angle
    See where I'm going....SMR

      Take your time and go slow... a good separating knife and a small steam generator helps tremendously ... Good Luck

    Great vid. But I think you were a bit off on your soundpost placement. It goes just behind (toward the tail end) the treble foot of the bridge. Never seen it any other way. Anyway, all the best. Thanks for sharing.

    • @TheSmreeder
      @TheSmreeder  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jack Goodman Made this a few years ago ... if I pointed to the wrong spot please forgive me ...The sound post goes on the treble side centered with the foot of the bridge and toward the lower bout between Half the thickness of the foot - 1 1/4 thickness of the foot...Each fiddle is a little different and if you vary from the foot to lower bout you can find a sweet spot that will bring out the most Beautiful tones and increased volume... Don't be afraid to move her up or down . As long as you stay pretty much centered on the treble foot . Purist will hate me for that statement but Oh Well , I have seen mediocre fiddles turn into beautiful Swans just by a mil or so.
      Many Blessings , SMR...........................New fiddle video soon

    I have an old Joseph Steiner. it said German copy but it sais Steiner on the back imprinted in. I got it for 51dollars and it is in bad shape. Idk the year. I got it to take apart and learn how to refurbish violins. it is a bad idea to use this particular one to learn on or is this a cheap one. cuz I really dont wanna learn on a potentially valuble one. doea any body know anything about this particular one. thx u

      Email me some pics I'll do what I can... Also any playable violin is fine to learn on whether it is a $50. to a $50,000. as long as you treat any instrument w/ respect it is cool.

    i have been glued to your videos, no pun intended, and they are great. i am about to reset the neck on my '39 Kay Orchestra. someone has removed the neck before and didn't do a very good job. the fingerboard is too low and i need more bridge height to get the volume i need. do you suggest alcohol to break down the glue or heat to separate the neck from the block. my other fear is the neck was glued in with titebond. i have done some repair, but this is a special bass. any advice is appreciated
