tip: don't trust your mirror, instead, turn the brightness up on your phone and snap your pic. Photos reveal what you really look like in your clothes. And having a look book on your phone simplifies getting dressed in the mornings as well!
Dressing according to your colors is a complete game changer! Done my color analysis myself over a year ago and ditched 80% of my clothes. I’m a soft autumn who used to wear black everyday. Now I got rid of it almost completely. I dress according to colors and get complimented a lot on precisely colors. It became apparent to me that I didn’t have a problem with style but black and white used to clash with my tones and made me look ill. Anyway, I totally agree and highly recommend to everyone
Top tip about colour analysis: I found my season by thinking of the colours that really don’t suit me. It’s really obvious when I have tried a pink lipstick or pink blush that I should avoid pinks. Equally neons and yellows make me look unwell 😅 at the same time, I ALWAYS get compliments in green. That put me pretty squarely in autumn ❤ thanks for the video!
100% agree with Jillz that the right colours can be life-changing! A tip for my fellow POC girlies - find an analyst who is also POC, ideally as close to your background as possible. Colour analysis in the West leans eurocentric and you don't want to pay hundreds just for someone to jump to conclusions based on your ethnic colouring.
I have been a fan of your content for sometime now an watch each one of your videos. They're so packed with useful tips and radiate feminine energy. I must say your setup and the way you look beautifully adds to the topic of your videos. Keep going
Excellent overview and explanations. Very well done. We typically see younger girls in clubs not understanding these concepts (nor themselves) wearing outfits that often look really bad simply because they try to copy/paste a specific look onto themselves rather than creating one that fits them. Great video.
I've been having much more fun with clothes since I decided to wear all black!! By eliminating the option for different colours, my ADHD brain doesn't get distracted by them - I only focus on texture (fabrics, patterns, etc) and shape (hourglass). Now I only pick clothes that work towards that shape in textures that fit well together, not just something that's super shiny or a pretty shade of red, etc. It also helps me save money when I'm shopping. I used to buy multiples of things I liked in different colours, but now if I have one in black, I know I don't need another. I can just recognise that I like it because it has a certain shape or texture, so I know to look out for that specific thing in the future - e.g. I liked a pair of black flared leggings on me, so I also got a pair of black flared jeans. Same colour, same shape, different texture, so a completely different look when I wear it! I've been doing this for a few months now and slowly changing out my entire wardrobe, and people have noticed. A guy I really like recently bought me a long black denim dress on a whim, just because "it looked like me". Having that association makes me feel really attractive and visible - I love it!
Love this! 💙My best advice for anyone struggling to figure out their undertone is buy a cool eyeshadow palette (cool pinks & purples & taupes) and a warm eyeshadow palette (warm oranges & browns). Use both of them in your day to day and see which one you like better/tend to gravitate towards. One of them will look just slightly off and that will give you a good indictor of your undertone! I struggled for a long time to figure out my undertone because I have an olive overtone. I started to piece it together using makeup :)
I never did a color analysis, but from what I learned from the internet, I tend to be a soft summer or winter with low contrast. What I like are bold colors, especially in my hair. but I like them a little bit more when they are mixed with more natural colors. except for red. I love red hair, every shade of it. With my make up I tend to be more low contrast, because I feel like I enhance my beauty more. But a bold lip or eyeshadow I love. It's about finding what works for yourself. I love myself in all sorts of colours. 😊
Ah, now I understand - if I have cool undertone complexion and I wear black (high contrast colour), I need to match my make-up with the high contrast clothes by adding darker red lipstick / blush to avoid looking washed-out. 👍 Thanks
I love this video! 🥰 You're right about everything, especially about our contrast and this is the first time I've heard someone talk about it. 🎯😊 Great video, thank you! 🤗🖤❤
Girrrrrl, I’ve never heard anyone explain color theory better than you 🤩 so simple and understandable! No wonder I dislike how I look in red and grey 😂 Thank you for always putting out top notch content! I want to look nice and feminine and wear beige and camel allll of the days - but that’s not sustainable with littles 😂 thank you for giving me that perspective of dressing for the season of life as well 🥰❤️😘
She explained it well! And if you are looking for more information on that, I highly recommend Kackie's channel - her artistic background and ability to break down how do colours and products really work is priceless. She has a whole colour theory series and it makes sooo much sense
Girl I get it!! I have two littles as well and it’s very impractical to wear the outfits on my Pinterest board lol. But I do try to elevate my more casual style with lots of jewelry with my matching athleisure outfits, or an elevated and cute top that’s still comfy with jeans…there are totally ways us mamas of littles can still look elevated and feminine, while in outfits that work for #momlife! 💜
I don't think i have anything to add that would possibly change someones life, but i certainly know you've changed mine! I've been on my style journey for quite some time now, and you inspired me to try to try to find my colours when you did your colour analysis vlog. I'm seeing whether i can work it out on my own and maybe gain a skill! Love you Jills ❤️
I had a professional color analysis this year. I had guessed I'm a Spring, and I found out I'm a Light Spring. I've been having a lot of fun flipping from black and dark grays to camel and ivory. I can attest that when you wear colors that enhance you, you don't feel like you NEED makeup to walk out the front door, and I'm saying this as someone who has pale blonde brows and lashes.
Wonderful, thanks for your information on glowing up ❤ I love your clothes and the way you look can you do a video on how you do your hair and face? Hair care and face care routine
Hi Jillz! Could you please make a video about being lost and how to find the ways out, or about its journey, especially for women(i think we are in a little different competition than men in terms of finding our purpose). im 19 so it is relevant for me :*)
I kept getting stuck on whether I’m low or medium contrast and something that helped was realizing when it comes to contrast it’s more like a spectrum than it is three neat boxes so I’m probably somewhere in between low and medium. I find I feel prettier in more medium contrast makeup but learning my approximate location on the sliding scale gave me a really good North Star. My makeup game has leveled WAY up since learning this. I completely avoid high contrast makeup now and it’s so funny to see old Snapchat memories from years ago when I would try to do really bold red lips or liner and it just didn’t suit me at all.
Great info, thank you! Im really drawn to the boho aesthetic and bought some dresses in that style. I love them but they dont look amazing on me and it must because that style doesnt fit my essence. This makes so much sense now ❤
I'm pretty sure I'm soft summer (very muted, dark blonde/mousy brown hair, blueish grayish eyes with goldeney central heterochromia) and have medium contrast. I'm trying to move my wardrobe to fit this. Also I'm SD in kibbe. But the biggest problem for me is I can't tell what energy I give off. I'm quite shy and introverted when I'm not in my comfort circle. But with the fact I'm 173 cm tall I'm "higher" than others which makes me wanna make myself smaller (constant struggle of mine since I grew higher than my peers when I was 12 and up). And I'm a student who goes to uni every day by buses and has to wear a backpack so I prefer comfort. But with being curvy soft dramatic it just feels off and I am completely lost. It just makes me wonder if this will change for me when I start working as a teacher in like 2 years.
Thank you so much for this video! funny enough, as you were speaking about Essences, I kinda find that you resemble/give off the vibe of Kate Walsh? (She played Addison Montgomery in Grey's Anatomy at one time). I don't know why, but just wanted to mention that haha! Love your content:)
Great video! I totally agree, with what you say about finding what works for YOU, not to follow trends. I love Ellie Jean Royden's channel - she explaines different style systems, I'd recommend her, if you are interested in this type of content 😊
Thank you the helpful tips! You are beautiful inside and out! 💗A few questions: Do you have a favorite place to shop for your colors? What is your hairct (do you have layers?) and how do you achieve this particular hairstyle?
I remember when i went to school wearing dark clothes reflecting my unevolved state of mind, but when i healed and know who i really am, i unconsciously started wearing light shades( i am friendly, docile and positive). Our essence in style is remarkable!
Hey Jillz! Thanks so much for putting this together! Your content is always so helpful! Im curious did you look into you venus sign when looking for your perfect aesthetic? I recently discovered mine and it has made all the difference. Finding something to wear isnt as difficult as I was making it 😅
I’m overweight and i love neutrals on me I’m warm. However I don’t like how anything looks on me especially my top portion because I’m a 38DDD. I noticed i have been getting more loose fitting tops but it makes me look frumpy so my goal is to lose weight my short term is to lose 20lbs so i can feel better in my skin and my clothes
thank you for the nice content :) could you maybe make a video on your current personal style using the 3 word method from Alisson Bornstein? That would be so interesting x love from Belgium
I find that I look washed out and my skin tone clashes with vibrant and bright colors, like a Christmas Red for example. I call them colors that make my eyes dialate 😅 I really like your explanation on Tip#3. It's something I feel we all need to hear. Be you and do what feels like you and fits "you" 🥰
I can't figure out my colours. I literally have a vein that starts green and turns blue. 😑 I think I'm warm once I'm tanned but cool in the winter when it's less sun. (I need foundations with different undertones too, pinkish in winter and yellowy in summer). Idk how to think when it comes to clothes.
That high and low contrast is very true. I've noticed myself that while I used to look pretty good with red or other bold lips, I find them too heavy on me now. Why? Cause I am back to my natural blonde hair, which is a soft, golden blonde and almost the same color as my skin lol. But in my teen years I had colored my hair dark brown, or ginger/orange or even a more vibrant yellow blonde. So when I wore a bold color then, it looked less crazy cause my hair was bold as well.
Also someone I REALLY notice that high/low contrast difference: Ariana Grande. With her light blonde hair (and less tan lol) she becomes low contrast. That interview where she wore a red dress and red lips, she looked almost sick. But when she wears the whites and the pinks (In Wicked for example!) she looks more harmonious.
Heyy, this is such a cool video!🥰 Just one question: What is meant by „contrast“? Like the contrast between your skin colour and hair colour or to what does this refer? Thanks & Love!🤗
