      Yes, I've always considered myself lucky to have grown up with Beatles music providing the soundtrack. I was 12 when they were on Sullivan, and like everyone else was bowled over, and their ever-maturing music continually pulled me along with them throughout my teens. I remember my seventh-grade teacher, on the Monday after Sullivan, SCREAMING to the class "I don't want to hear that word BEATLES in this class again!" On that day, he had a lot of competition for out headspace. It was the only time I remember him yelling like that.

      Its nice when you grow up on masterpieces. parents got me Beatles from the start. Introducing the Beatles in 63. Before that Ray Charles Hit the Road Jack in 62. Frank Sinatra in 62 (French Foreign Legion, a B side of something else, has always been my fave Sinatra since then), Ricky Nelson hits from 62, 63. Was playing Revolver all the time when I was 11. So yes, I feel so lucky to be raised on masterpieces. And check out My Love For You by the Marcels. another great B side from the same bag of singles mom bought me from the bin.

    People often say George wasn't a great singer, but being a great singer isn't about having a wide vocal range, or having dynamic styles, it's about being able to suit a certain style of music written for you. And George nailed it almost every time.

      I just found this after listening to a video of Dhani - George's son who looks just like him (sp??) sitting with Sir George Martin and another dude - they're pointing out the 'lost solo' bringing it up in the mix - and it's (dare i say,) rather crummy in its distinct bluesy way - not up to the timeless beauty of the final mix. If it bleeds over in any way it diminishes the perfect original - we're lucky for the decision making of Sir George Martin - the 5th Beatle was important to the production (wa'nt he their producer for all but one song..!?) - maybe they could further clean it up leaving no traces at all. And also - John Williams and James Taylor do a very thoughtful rendition of "Here Comes the Sun" a concert that seems to be honoring Yo Yo Ma, with the Obamas and Yo Yo all sitting together in a balcony somewhere - playing on the cross rhythms - with an amazing vocal backdrop with a particular delightful muppet groovin' along too. Something for everyone - Sun-thing for everyone.

    The entire recording of this song was done with just Paul, George, and Ringo. It’s really a shame Paul and George didn’t get on better because there’s still a lot of magic the three of them could have done together after John quit and then after he died.

      When George and Paul were on the same page, their magic was amazing. Their dual guitar leads in “And Your Bird Can Sing”, their vocal harmonies in “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and in this song. They were opposites in personality but they sure did make wonderful music together. Paul’s bassline for “Something” is a treasure that only a true friend would give to his little brother.

      Paul and George are by far my two favorite Beatles-the best looking, most charming, the ones who went the furthest back personally. So I always wonder what the full story of their relationship was-a lot of which we’ll probably never know. I get the impression they were insecure about their place and legacy in the group a whole lot more than John or Ringo, which is maybe why their Get Back experience left such strong wounds.

With his other contribution to Abbey Road, Something, Harrison gained recognition as a songwriter that had previously been reserved for fellow students John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Harrison performed the song at several of his concerts, as a solo artist, including at the Concert for Bangladesh in 1971 and, with Paul Simon, during his Saturday Night Live appearance in 1976.

      @@DanielSanchez-og4ox I remember hearing a John Lennon interview with the DJ in the fall of 69 for Abbey Road, they went over every song and John said the only songs he didnt participate was Maxwell Silver Hammer and Her Majesty. We may never know but its possible after the car accident he may have overdubbed on this song.

    • @dannyboy141
      @dannyboy141 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ivan John hated Maxwell he didn’t play on it at all. Also listen to this Here Comes The Sun/The Inner Light Mashup which features backing vocals from Oh Darling (which John participated on the backing vocals) th-cam.com/video/TXZ2x6nKAYw/w-d-xo.html . The opening features the sun, sun, sun part from Here Comes The Sun (which I believed John overdubbed vocals on when he came back) and the ahhhs and oohs from Oh Darling. It sounds mashup together perfectly that John participated on. It John didn’t contribute vocals during sun, sun, sun part it wouldn’t fit together nicely.
