That was nearly 60 years ago and I was told by the duty solicitor that if I pleaded guilty I wouldn't have to go to crown courts and could be dealt with straight away. At that time the max sentence a magistrate could give was 6 months. What he didn't tell me was as a juvenile he COULD send me to Borstal. The really annoying thing was, the guys that actually did steal the car(and broke into a supermarket) got 6 months(out in 4 months) and I was in the same prison as them waiting to be allocated a Borstal when they were released.

    One factor against Jail time now in the UK is, the fact of the Prisons are over crowded and there is no new Prisons being built.
    So where there was say a 2 person prison cell before they have now got another 3 persons in that space due to the lack of cells.
    A few newer prisons been built but those mainly for Terrorists only as the rules state they can't use a normal prison for terrorists.
    Belmarsh in Woolwich is one such Terrorist only prison.
    The trouble is, the Governments over the last 20 years do not wish to spend millions building new prisons so the old ones are just overfilled now!
    The reason so many nasty people whom should be in prison and are not or are put in and then released early is because of the overcrowding in the prisons most of which are very old and not built to house 4 or 5 times the original amount of inmates but do because of non building of new prisons.

      so.. basicly.. they've done to prisons what they have done to the NHS..
      they've taken 3 man cells.. and turned them into 1 man cells.. and now shouting "above capacity"..
      in the early 90's.. 2 or 3 man cells were common place

    Did I detect a certain tone of bigoted disdain in his voice, when mentioning that those in question were from Scotland, as opposed to their city or town, as he did when referencing Essex, punctuated by the implication that all Scottish girls in their twenties, who attend festivals, are stupid, given that he described the subjects as "particularly" stupid!?

    They are 21 and 23 now, but one of them was 18 at the time, but the judge said they had to wait 18 months to get charged? I mean I guess they had a birthday the day after Creamfields 2022? 18 at the festival, 19 shortly after, if they 21 now, that's 2 years to get charged surely?

  • @ConorHanley
    @ConorHanley 13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

    I don't understand why it took so long for the girls to be charged unless they grassed more then the chap on the coach who never got charged who. perhaps, grassed someone higher up the trafficking chain. All very odd or perhaps the judge got free stuff in exchange for the light sentences. Even stuff is subject to inflationary pressures that special offers are just too tempting.

    Drugs need to be legalized and controlled, how much tax payer money is the country spending stopping people making their own decisions in life, not to mention the fuelling of gangs and knife/gun crime as a result, we've become a totally ludicrous nanny state? Was never like this in the past, or the last 300 000 years for that mater, just the costs of this little trial would have supported a few hard working students from deprived areas though University and given them a real change in life or given a homeless vet a place to live again totally life changing. Live and let live, support and help those who deserve it, to whom it will make a real difference with what little finances this country can afford I say.
