@louis george yes I’ve been there many times, which is why I know that a Welsh accent is different than the “British” aka English (as in from England) accent. Welsh is literally a different language
***** Being someone who has lived over sea's for periods of time I can tell you that your accent is easily wavered, not to the point where you could go from American to the UK and speak like the queen but when you pronounce words they would have a HINT of something else, most likely whats happened here.
TokyoKazama No, Trans-Atlantic uses the patterns and diction of UK posh with American pronunciation. It tends to be more breathy and remains consistent throughout. Here are some good examples of Trans-Atlantic accents: Grace Kelly on JFK | Blank on Blank | PBS Digital Studios MARK LANE IS INTERVIEWED BY WILLIAM BUCKLEY (DECEMBER 1, 1966) Bale just jumped from one accent to another
There is an interview where he says he uses whatever accent he had in the movie for interviews so that it doesn't throw the audience off when they watch it. It's a strange idea but I get why he dos it.
You're basically talking about an exception - it's not a general rule or anything. For instance; his accent in this interview is obviously not the same as in Out Of The Furnace.
Precious! He was so adorable! I love how he was chucking when watching the clip. Awww. And, for the record, I love his "clusterfuck of an accent". He's the best.
Thom Deane Sure, that's one possible way to look at the issue, but not how most people would actually feel about it if it was them. Growing up in England, having English parents and English siblings, but being Welsh, because that's where mum was when giving birth? Not really, that's not likely to be a person's experience, and I understand why Bale considers himself English. You can imagine yourself in the same situation and try substituting the countries with any other... How do you think you would feel? It's one thing on paper, regarding possible dual nationality and such matters (where that would apply - obviously not between Wales and England since both are part of the UK). That wasn't the point here, though. It's a whole other matter when talking about what the situation is from the human perspective. The comment "that's Welshmen for ya" - even if meant as humorous - implies having some characteristics Welshmen supposedly have, but why would Bale have any? No reason at all. I've also seen people talk about his "Welsh accent" (as if he ever had one), etc. but people don't acquire any accent (or language) at birth, nor any characteristics associated to the place, nation, etc. A place of birth is merely that, it doesn't affect personal traits, accent (or language), cultural habits, etc.
I feel like his accent is everywhere because of the hundreds of roles hes played, I'm hearing New Jersey, slight British, which he is, and just american.
He always speaks or tries to with an american accent when he is playing american characters in american interviews, he's stated why he does this before.
It's funny that most of the comments are about the accent. Americans are always talking about accents, not just at this interview but many others i've seen. He's a great actor and british not american and yes he has accent. Get over it.
All of you are wrong; he is from Great Britain, and grew up there partially, and in America. That is why his accent is all over the place................
TheHarrisonkid It's not about not confusing audiences, but what he can and cannot do accent-wise. And besides, as you can see audiences seem very confused by his accents. ;)
his accent is a combination of BrE and AmE, that is because accents are contagious, though he is British, but living in America for a very long time made him adopt the Northern American accent. Evident in his pronunciation of the conjunction 'and' the same phenomena can be observed with Johhny Depp when he lived in France with his ex-gf.
He maybe was born in Wales but since 8 played americans and live most of his life in the states I don't know why people so surprised about his multi accents.
I'd pray to see this amazing actor raising the Oscar for Actor in a leading role. I know the Oscars are far far away from what they used to be and he doesn't need to have it to show that he's one of the goat.... but just because of the photo and his speech. As Joaquin Phoenix. PD: the lady is gorgeous
TheBomber15 He says himself that he's English. I'll go with that. His family moved around a lot when he was growing up. His family is not from Wales nor did he grow up there nor is he living there now. He just happened to be born when they were living in Wales. If he had been born when they were in Portugal, would he be considered Portuguese?
TheBomber15 I've only ever heard him say he's English when asked and explaining why. But ultimately it's not that important - and he doesn't care what any of us think about it anyway. :)
Actors are actors you know. They spend months playing a certain character and also speaking with a certain accent or voice so it appears that they often speak differently which is the case because they might still be a little bit in character or getting ready for a role etc.
A few thoughts: 1 Bale is so reserved and shy here. He definitely is not comfortable doing these junkets. 2 American Psycho reunion in that clip 3 Lady wants to nail him badly
When he first started talking you could tell his accent was very heavy and then as an interview went on I think he realized Scott tissue people are notorious for having heavy accents so he made it more Audible you can tell he changed it
you guys are SO IGNORANT, He was born in the UK, live most his life in the USA, traveled several places for years filming, he is bound to pick of alot of accents, that's why he is so TALENTED not anything else. People overthink everything lmfao.
Outstanding English actor who had the mis fortune to be born in Wales while his English parents were travelling ... but his roots are all English as is his up bringing and accent
idk how many times i have thought an actor/actress was american and was so so shocked to find out they were from another country and dont have an american accent
Ok His accent is like mine... I can explain for him... Removed from England (UK) to LA (USA) when he was 17.... When I was 19 I moved from England to Australia and my accent is such a mash up as well! YES! finally!!! A famous person with whom i can relate too.
oneuniqueusername Yes. It makes perfect sense, doesn't it. He has lived in the US longer than in the UK, plus he needs to learn different accents for various roles all the time. But for some reason people are still confused as hell by his accents.
5 mins ago i just found out he wasn't american, what the flying fuck .. i typed his name on youtube looking for an interview and he spoke in an english accent of some sort.. mind blown.
Why is he speaking in an American accent? He's a method actor. He's renowned for staying in character even when the camera aren't rolling. Yeah, it's a bit weird, but it clearly gets results. When he's not working on a movie he gives interviews in his native English accent.
Okay so I looked up "Christian Bale interview" at 2:37am because I just finished watching American Psycho and looked this man up and saw that he was born in the UK somehow expecting him to have an English accent because I noticed I never heard him with an English accent. You'd think I'd be disappointed to not hear an English accent, but no, not I'm not. UPDATE: ...the end. Omg he was so adorable and he did have an English accent. Probably lived in America for too long, or due to all the roles he has played. Awww.
He has an English accent most of the time...but some of the time I get a weird New York accent feel...like... How people in the wolf of wallstreet sound idk how to explain it...
Christain Bale has played so many American roles to the point he sounds like an American trying to do a british accent
Bro he sounds like an Australian trying to do a Boston accent 🤣🤣🤣
I mean technically he’s Welsh….

@@OK-hi5ym Wales is in Britain, so is England and Scotland
Yes. If u listen to the interview he did after filming American Psycho, he sounds English. He doesn't sound English anymore lol
I swear he changes accent every interview.
He’s a fucking legend. My favourite actor will always be Christian Bale
He sounds like a New York Italian trying to do a British accent.
He's British
@@beanstaIkjack thank you mr. obvious

It ruined Gary Oldmans accent too..

notice as soon as he saw that clip of him when he was young, his english twang came right back for a moment there. :) haha
Christian Bale has the strangest normal talking accent.
Some strange mashup of Welsh, South African and New York...
He actually has a normal British accent but in some interviews he puts on a fake one for laughs.

LOL I thought he had a english accent and I'm stoned as fuck RIGHT NOW and he sounds New Yorker lol
***** funny bc im stoned rn as well and totally agree lmao
I don't think this is his real voice. I've heard him in other interviews and I think he's cockney. Maybe he's getting into character?
I feel like Christian bale is such a good actor he'd be able to do impressions of anyone in the world
Brooklyn to Irish to Aussie wtf xDD
