SoulMask Has A Massive Problem...Its Not What You Think

  • The new Soulmask game has a huge problem and it just might be us the players. I believe we're in a world of fast food games and people want games to be easy so they can complete them quickly and move on. This is putting Devs in a tough spot when thinking about their games longevity. What do you guys think, are the requests from the players valid, do we need things easier do we need the main character to be stronger?

    absolutely!! the people complaining about the most trivial things like the main character are STUPID.

      It’s just weird but I don’t think they’re stupid I think they just came into it thinking it’s going to follow the mould and work like every other open world survival game without learning about what Soulmask is 🤔

    I like how hard it is! the main character issue is pretty odd. the skills capped at 50 makes no sense really.

      See I like the difficulty too, and I’m getting through the game solo and it’s getting easier so maybe crank it up a lil with difficulty 🤣🤣 “ps I’ve only done the easy sabertooth”
      I actually think the level 50 cap is good because it makes you choose between a lot of room for error in most cases or you come prepared and errors means a whole reset, if you’re worried that you need a few tries to get something right you can use the weaker main so you can respawn as much as you need and when you’ve got your method down you can risk a higher level NPC but if the main character is able to be at like 70/80 then people will spam it for everything cuz there’s no penalty for dying

      The info text for "Body Enhancement 3" (one of the rewards for beating the third boss) states that it enhances main char's skill proficiency cap by 10. I was told that it can be upgraded once more to a cap of 70 in total.

    The main problem with AL of these games is that the people crying/complaining the hardest is the part of your audience that you should ignore. It's the players that won't stick to your game, they continue to next when they are bored after 10 hours of playing. If devs listen to that audience, the game is lost. It's that simple.
    I played now for 50 hours, had my fun, had my chalenges, yes there are things that can be done better but it's definitely not too hard. I even tried to lose workers and couldn't get them killed.
    P.s.: char creation is so limited that 10 look-a-likes run around in the first camp you find. They should add more options but also the ability to change looks of workers.

      Exactly they’re the fast food gamers they need easy games so they can complete in time for the next game that’s releasing, they don’t want to clock over 100+ hours per game. It’s hard for Devs especially ones that are new on the scene because they’re trying to build that early fan base and don’t know the difference between who’s gonna stay or leave.
      See I think the creation is good the way it is because it kinda solidifies the “don’t get attached to this” issue, if they add more and you can make the first character more personal it creates a bigger bond with the player 🤔 but then more options means less look alike cuz sometimes it’s like the old GTA games with every NPC looking the same. Maybe keep the creation on launch as is but then make it like lvl 30 you can unlock the change feature but have to get parts from dungeons and bosses to create the remodel soup or something 🤔

    I just find it funny that streamers that do not play the game properly good enough dont know the game. Sorry for this comment but your main character isnt compleetly useless even after you wanna hop over to a better tribesmen. What do I mean? Well for a fact at the begin of the game sinds release there is actually a function that a lot dont know. Once you indeed captured a Tribesmen you can simply just let it follow your main, go get couple afk resources with couple of soups (with main character) and start doing WORK! People dont think outside the box, because you litterly can put your ''main character'' to work (you have to let a tribesmen follow you) then simply just smash that Control button while your ''main character is working his $ off instead of your tribesmen'' I hope you understand how this works now just like every other single streamer I messaged this by explaining them this.       Yes they work their ass off but still get capped so the proficiency is still low why have them take up a bench when I can get a tribesman with higher stats to do so, once you unlock control you normally have that 3 tribesman cap so you don’t have enough work to give your main especially if you aren’t really built up or need the extra mats yet 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️
      My main gets in the way once most of my tribesmen hit 50 on any proficiency rendering it indeed useless……🤷🏾‍♂️

    You have some valid points. I especially think the starting person you create shouldn't have a character creation piece except to choose your gender. This way you aren't in the mindset that the character you created is the focus. The focus are the masks that you get and the ability to control the humans in the game. So, I think this main point does a disservice and confuses the players before they've even started playing the game. After you unlock the Decor Table, then let this modify anything the initial character creator can do, but for any person you are controlling. That will allow players to find the human with the stats they want and change their appearance to what they want to play.
    A bigger problem is the progression of the non-existent story and guiding the player in a better way. Many players close the Guidance tips and then are lost on what to do. They think this game is exactly like Ark or Conan. I think they should have tell you things you should do in the beginning, like building your first base. And then have an advisor join you to progress the story. This would then give a player a reason to build a throne room with advisor area and be more thematic. This would also open up options for little buffs for that base like you and the other video you showed suggested.
    Another problem is what is driving the player to keep going? I have made it to Iron with enough points to unlock Steel now. But, I don't have an incentive to see more. The Guidance steps are now just to kill more bosses. Why? There needs to be another hook to keep us chasing the tech tree besides becoming more powerful so we can kill those bosses. I really don't understand the story behind killing any of these bosses. That is the connection the devs also need to focus on because all I see is, if I kill the Sabertooth Tiger, I get some green and blue skill enhancers. Same with the other bosses. Why would I repeat a harder boss when the loot is the same for the easier boss?
    I know it's early access, so story may be the last thing that they work on. I enjoy some of the combat. I don't like corpse runs to get my gear. So, that's the first setting I changed. I don't play PvP. So as a PvE game and playing solo, I'm starting to lose my interest even though I've enjoyed exploring and finding new biomes and such. It's just lackluster in what is actually in those biomes as far as any kind of story telling and such.

      I agree with your points for real 🤔🔥 if they incorporate the decor table with certain elements bosses drop to allow you to customize your “favorite” tribesmen to make it more personal that adds an incentive to go fight them and maybe you have to fight all of them to get enough of the bits to get the remodel potion so if that character dies then you have to restart again which puts in the grind aspect to get back what you lost and then repeating boss fights
      I do think there needs to be some story, like in Conan they added NPC towns where you could go visit people and talk which opened more of the story maybe have hidden caves or dungeons and only by finding certain hidden NPC camps you get to do them and if they put them in hard spots that’s more end game content for players like you who are getting close to higher lvl materials so it tackles content and a story, unlocking more history around the mask, I’ve had NPC raiders come to the base talking about “you still wear those the mask, those evil masks” what do they mean?
      Even adding something like in Ark where when you kill a boss for the first time you get the unlock where it Helena gives a breakdown of each boss but in soul mask it says this was a guardian that protected the original mask wearer from the flint tribe…..when the war broke out the wearers soul was trapped in the beast making it go mad” you know stuff like that
      I’ve lowkey forgot what you said at the end cuz I’m on my phone so I can’t scroll while typing 😭😭

      @@StephLyonTV lol. Sorry for the very long post... but yes, lots of potential for this game. It has good bones, you know? Now to add flesh to it so players feel like they're living in it and have reasons to build your own temple/city to become the next mask wearing God. Mwahahaha. 🤣😜

    As alot of people right now are, we are looking for that next "stand out" game in the survival genre. But nothing seems to be the next Ark, DayZ or Rust, Well not yet anyway. I tried Beta on this seemed very good I personally think the Bush dogs probably put people off early game.

      Exactly a lot are, games like Ark Conan Dayz and Rust will be staple games forever, kind of like how Minecraft is but it is time for a new set to take the fore front I think a lot of games are stuck inside the box which doesn’t give them longevity and the act of paying creators to push your game is a sin…..people won’t play your game if their favorite creator plays it once then shelves it we gotta fall in love with it.
      Them bush dogs toasted me I won’t lie I was boutta quit too 🤣🤣

    I like the new change. They need to raise the main tribesperson higher. Maybe a random or point system, so the player can customize and prioritize how they want to focus and play.

    I think they should take a bit different apoach. I would fuse their original concept, wich is sool, with the system that Medieval Dinasty has, for example. Let me explain.
    A system where the mask is not just vinculated to the main character, but to his bloodline. In Medieval Dinasty, you have the option to play with your heir, with your firstborn. The child is born with the average stats of both parents at the moment of the birth, and can develp them if you give him stuff to do. If the main character dies, the heir heredates the mask, wich has saved some of the stats of his ancestors (we could say the mask has the colective souls of the bloodline, forming a conciousness of his own), and boosts the stats of the character. And some stats would be totally dependent of the mask.
    If your character dies with no heir, you will have to choose another character from another bloodline. Some stats will remain, but those direcly related to the mask will be lost, and the mask will be void of souls again.
    Also of course, I would eliminate the max 50 lvl.

    My issue is, it is boring. If all you want is base/npc management, with some exploration it's fine. But it's bland. I just can't see any goal that makes me interested in building up my base more, or progressing.
    For me personally, it needs more bang. A magic system or something.

      In my opinion that ruins the premise, there is an advanced system at end game which I also think ruins the reality rooted world, magic doesn’t fit in a game like this at all.
      There’s a bit to do, it’s not all about building up your base once you’re set up I find there’s a huge map to explore, things are in specific zones with specific difficulties meaning you have to travel and can’t choose a “lazy” option for stuff
      The dungeons are quite bland at the moment and the incorporation of more wildlife would aid in the fauna too. Apart from some parts of the game being bland like the animals available on the map everything else is pretty dope but that’s my opinion 🤷🏾‍♂️

    The thing here is that you should have the option to grind to mid max. Currently, is impossible to have a 120 fully maxxed character. If they add a way to absorb stats from tribesman, you still have reason to grind. Now, you mentioned if the main character was able to level up, there wouldn't be tribesman grinding, that is a dumb statement. I want to see a regular person crafting all the bronze, all the structures, crafting the thousands and thousands you need for crafting. Tribesmen can be companions, auto crafter, auto farmers, they are not just vessels, but I want to enjoy testing advanced builds without the permanent fear of a tribesmen to fully die or go through the grind of remodeling them.
    You mentioned Ark, you can literally revive dinos in Ark with the Oasiasaur and you can breed the dinos to have 150000 backups. Even breed them to mutate stats and make them better. They need either to add a "absorb stats from minions" or the tribesmen can also respawn as long as being used by you.

      Just like that Soulmask gets buried in the pile of identical games in the genre…..why have a game based on the ability to transfer consciousness then make that aspect pointless because you absorb traits…….the constant fear builds better and smarter decisions
      Now tell me about the state of ark since they started bending to people’s complaints and adding things like the oasis? And in Soulmask there’s literally the same feature closer to end game that allows the resurrection 🤷🏾‍♂️ I play with 5 legendary fighters all with one good proficiency chilling on a workbench grinding levels in case my primary fighter dies so I don’t have thousands like I can on ark or Conan but instead I have usable replacements that add value while they level and prep

      @@StephLyonTV I have 7000k hours on Ark. 230 in the Center from ASA. PVE wise I appreciate the effort on trying to add things.
      Being able to control different units is a cool feature, but isn't what makes this Game cool. I have been playing a Lot but I am not that interested on grinding hours to Locate a tribesman with the correct masteries, domain level and perks to then loose it. Or grind the entre Game with mediocre tribesman until late Game to be able to respawn them.
      Why gaming has to be dificult? Not everyone makes a living out of gaming. Fortunately, the devs have last vote and they mentioned buffing the Main character.

      @@olimacable I have 8K hours on ASE 1K on ASA and I’ve played PvE and PvP both equally
      It is in my opinion what makes this game cool, saying you’re not interested in grinding for a tribesman with good masteries is like saying you’re not willing to find the Dino with the best stats or mixing Dino stats to create your strongest breed line which doesn’t make any sense in either context…….
      Gaming should be difficult enough to give people challenges especially in games with no end point
      Um I don’t make a living from gaming hopefully will do some day but I’m putting that money back into my community and a game being hard or not doesn’t make it better for creators regardless so that statement 🤷🏾‍♂️

      Ark, again, You get a dino, spend 1500 hours breeding it and You can have 150000000 backups. No way to compare that. I have 30 tribesmen in soulsmask and none of them have 120 in all the weapons I use. And none of them have the same perks or masteries. So what, I should spend 1000 hours of grind to enjoy building and leveling? Why is it so crazy to find tribesmen and through some kind of ritual absorbe the stats?

    this is nonsense the game is to needy in every way between having to stand at stations for hours on end and repairing tools and organising npcs. I quit the game and prob wont be back.
