I made it to the first peak without realizing how intense the hike was. Definitely had to sit down on the first peak for a while before I got the courage to climb back down. Views were stunning but phew it was scary. Thanks for showing what peak 2 and 3 looked like! I always wondered.
I've done that hike twice 1991 and 1999. In my lifetime, I can guarantee you that it's the most beautiful hike that I will ever do. The view is breathtaking so is the foggy mist, and no flies or bugs. I've been on island of Oahu four different times in my life - twice military & twice civilian...and I also went to Kauai for my honeymoon in 2000. I could live on any of the islands and I would love to retire there. My wife said it's too far away from family.
Found this video from a search after reading the SFGate article “Terrifying sign posted at Hawaii’s notoriously dangerous Olomana Trail” about the six deaths on this trail. Very cool but I can see why it’s so dangerous. Thanks for the video!
dont forget to disclose all of the lives it has claimed... people falling hundreds of feet to their death. it is by no means an easy trail on the best of days. Scenic, yes.... but comes with a steep price. Not everything is palm trees and calm breezes in HI.
A very beautiful description ( love the views ) I’m definitely not planning to hike it when we get over there again because I just heard about the young man who fell . As I recall this is not the only fatality, thank you for posting how nice the hike can be in ideal conditions and with an experienced guide.
i went there once with my parents who are in the 60's. my dad turn back after 2 miles .. my mom went further but got stopped at the big rock you climb to the first peak. i climb to first peak and enjoy the view and came back down.. i wanted to do all 3 peaks but not the day.
i got to the first big rock almost at the end of the first peak and couldnt go any further. I was too scared. I need to train and get more confident in climbing and i will come back and attempt this.
According to reports, 5 people have died on Olomana Trail. Hiking Olomana can be dangerous, especially between the second and third peaks when it is wet. Jacqueline Turner fell 150 feet in 2004 but survived. On the same day, Mel Yoshioka, another hiker, fell while descending the backside of Olomana’s second peak. He, too, made it. Ryan Suenaga, a 44-year-old experienced hiker, died in the same location in April 2011, and Mitchell Kai, a 27-year-old off-duty Honolulu Firefighter, died in the same part in January 2014. In June 2015, a 52-year-old former Navy veteran died after falling around 200 feet, the third fatality atop Olomana in four years.A guy was discovered 400 feet below the hiking trail on April 1, 2018. He was flown to a nearby park by helicopter, where he was pronounced dead. Olomana is not a state-approved trail, and parts of the terrain, especially near the first peak, can be rather treacherous. “It’s slippery if it’s raining, it’s very steep, and some portions you’ll have to rock climb and lapel down it,” Mendes added. “On that first peak, you have to lapel your way down, which is pretty dangerous if you don’t like heights.”
people, know your limits and for god sake, dont even attempt on a wet day.. my 60 year old mom almost made it to the first peak. her limit was reach at the big rock climb.
The just put a sign up with a list of all of the recent fatalities. Certainly not for everyone and make sure you understand the risks and your own abilities.
Rescue crews have been dispatched to the trail five times this year and responded to 13 calls in 2021. At least five others have died on the trail since 2011, officials said.
Yes, parking is tricky here you have to park out on a road connecting to the resort road. Just pay attention to the posted signs and you’ll be fine. Here are cords to where I parked. goo.gl/maps/Aqqwb6KZy5UfXW7C7
Please know that one wrong step and it’s not a bad day, it’s the end of your life. Just like Kevin said someone died the other day. Even us local die there too. There are plenty of other hikes with better views of the island with less risk involved.
That's not hiking it's rock climbing once you go past the peaks. Very dangerous people die every year doing this if you go please be a capable climber or you might not make it.
Great job on the details and visuals! We will be headed to Hawaii may 27 - June 13th and will definitely attempt this hike. I’m comparison to stair way through the Moanalua route, which one was more extreme? Not gonna lie, with that wide angle, it looks pretty intense 😳
How many hours did it take you guys? Looks stunning! Planning on going soon, we are also climbers so hopefully we will do this if the weather permits!!
Another Hiker fell to his death this week and HFD had to risk their lives to get his body. At least his followers got to see his last post on his social media account. People are trying to blame the state & property owners that their no signs to warn people of how DANGEROUS it is to go off and explore . Apparently people can’t read because Haiku Stairs is CLOSED/Fence off&blocked pisted with signs yet people just ignore and break the law and go and hike the trail anyways wtf 🤬
Don't call this a hike. It is climbing with real risk of death. I live close to it (I see my roof in this video), and strongly advise people to keep off it. Not worth the risk, people.

Thank you for the heart active tours.
I envy you I wish I could live there.

trying to climb that third peak in the rain looks like an easy way to die.
Beautiful views! What a hike...WOW!

Wow you guys brave
Very dangerous trail

i heard of many injuries on that hike, definitely have to be prepared and in top shape
Yes, if you search for it, people die on this trail regularly. In shape, outdoorsy, hiking types. It's very dangerous.
i went there once with my parents who are in the 60's. my dad turn back after 2 miles .. my mom went further but got stopped at the big rock you climb to the first peak. i climb to first peak and enjoy the view and came back down.. i wanted to do all 3 peaks but not the day.
Love your video, i like the step-by-step that you guide us to follow your path
i got to the first big rock almost at the end of the first peak and couldnt go any further. I was too scared. I need to train and get more confident in climbing and i will come back and attempt this.
at first it looks bad but its really not.
@active tours what camera did you use specifically to film for this hike?

Props for the excellent guts you both have! Scary AF!
be careful, someone passed away on this trail falling 225 ft down 🥺
Please be careful
Its easy to fall hundreds of feet
I know the 2nd + 3rd peaks are dangerous, but is it dangerous to hike to the first peak?
it is slightly dangerous but nothing close to 2nd and 3rd.
Another fall two weeks ago. And another death yesterday.
April 9, 2022: KHON2 News channel featured a woman who survived falling from Olomana and telling others that "It's not worth it."
How long to get to just the first viewpoint? Is that part easy?
Thank you 🙏
Guy just died on this section 3 days ago @04:22 Happy Hiking!
Gorgeous, but super dangerous even to experienced hikers.

Yet another person fell on this hike, just last week. Not the first fatality here, not to mention several near deaths. I don't recommend this hike.
Please know that one wrong step and it’s not a bad day, it’s the end of your life. Just like Kevin said someone died the other day. Even us local die there too. There are plenty of other hikes with better views of the island with less risk involved.
I would wear boots. Much more stable than athletic shoes. Gloves help, too.
They probably shouldn't call anything where you need your hands a 'hike'. It could save a life or two to call it a climb.
Oh woooow 😍 I’m going there in February, I will definitely bring back a video 🤘🏔🤘

Locals do not recommend this trail, the trail is on private property and so you will be trespassing.
Lots of deaths from this
Extremely dangerous and sometimes deadly trail. Avoid.
Before watching the video just to people scrolling please don’t do more than the first peak unless you’re truly experienced.
Someone just died there. Not safe
How many hours did it take you guys? Looks stunning! Planning on going soon, we are also climbers so hopefully we will do this if the weather permits!!
Hey there, it took us 4 hours but we stopped to take videos the whole way. Hopefully you enjoy. Stay Active!
Another tourist just fell 240 ft and died here

I'm a hiker,and Nope

People die on this even though it's not very big.
Many people have died and gotten hurt on this trail, not a recommended hike, don’t be a statistic.
You seem like the type of person to wear a life jacket when it rains
@@benwabawls4807nah he serious bro, plenty tourists fall off
