Hello Mr.Jerry! If a 4K video clip shot on an Ipad of the same 524 Mb size is transferred via lightning adapter to an external SSD drive, will it take the same time - 13 seconds or much longer? Reply please. Thank you!

    • @JerrySchulze

Same. It doesn't matter what the file is or what created it. Its the size.

It is somewhat faster with thunderbolt on the M1 but still not as fast as it should be.

So caveat seems to be you need an apple computer or device to always use since APFS doesn't natively work on Windows. I believe there is software you can get to read APFS on Windows but haven't looked into it

    • @JerrySchulze

Just my 2 cents on this.
I’m doing this on an iPhone XS Max with a genuine Lightning to USB - to much to my dismay, the non powered one. If only I had the powered one, I could have used USB 3 but like this, iOS tells me that it’d need more power so I’m stuck with a USB 2 thumb drive.
Now that I reformatted it to APFS, it “only” takes a whopping 5 minutes to copy a 1 Gig file. Guess this is the fast one - with exFAT I literally gave up on it.
Anyhow, I guess you might be better off with an iPad(?) and it doesn’t hurt to have the powered adapter if you want to get “up to speed” with a USB 3 drive.
Once again, was just my 2 cents, I appreciated the vid, it did give me back hope that it was at least doable although USB and the iPhone is not really how you imagine life in the fast lane…

Argh. I use windows and android phone, i have an ipad only cause i need to use stuff like procreate and ps on the go and android doesnt get support for these art apps... Looking for solution for this slow xfer rate and looks like i be better off still with cloud xfer for my art files 😑

    • @JerrySchulze

For a Windows computer I would connect to a network share using the Files App and move the file that way.
