Oh my, isn’t she ever! And Ray is such a wuss! What kind of a husband allows his wife to be treated so abominably? Stay the heck out of the refrigerator is what he should have said. Or better yet, Go home! God willing it’s only tv and not modeled after his own life! Great actors, funny show but Marie is so over the top. Doris Roberts was so kind in real life. 😊

Initially, Frank's character comes across as just slap stick comic relief, but his traits are actually carefully chosen. You might think he's outrageous, but he is quite typical on a deeper level. E.g. Him being a combat veteran heavily influences his behaviour and actions.

I think there was one episode where Ray got a bouncy house and I believe it was for one of the kids’ birthday but I can’t remember.

There’s just no logic here. He could have just gone with the lie of his package being shirts, ran them upstairs, then come back down stairs to his annoying parents and brother.
They would have just chased after him and forced their way into his bedroom to see what he bought.

The logic is that Ray is naturally contrived and awkward, plus Marie was snooping around Debra's cooking, a subject Ray knows it's controversial and he got more worried about that.
That would have definitely been way funnier. After that they could show them praying before dinner and then settling down to some reruns of "The Walton's" before going to bed early.
This show be pissin me off now that im an adult. GET CONTROL OF YOU INTRUSIVE FAMILY
