  • Check out this 4.8-km out-and-back trail near Canmore, Alberta. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a very popular area for hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are May through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
This East End of Rundle Trail offers beautiful views the entire way up. The route starts in a wonderful forested section, and as the elevation gain increases, users will eventually come to more rocky trails that may require scrambling and using hands to stabilize. Throughout the upper areas, there are a few small grassy meadows that provide opportunities for views and rest, which is a good moment to take advantage of that.
The scramble right before the big stones at the top is known to be the most challenging part of the climb. The big rocks on the top make it easier to hug it to users' left then use it to climb around, and there are many trails going up and down which is great and makes it easy to choose an option to spread out from others or stay with a group. It is definitely a steep and strenuous hike, and in some seasons be prepared for large quantities of snow and icy conditions at the top - even in late spring and early summer. Micro spikes, crampons and hiking poles highly recommended.
The descent can also be annoying because users are known to accidentally take a different path which leads to a lot of sliding on the butt. This descent is hard on the knees but totally worth the challenge. Users recommend hiking poles and also refer any new hikers to follow the AllTrails offline maps, since many hikers get lost on the descent by straying too far West. Be careful and retrace the steps if you are unsure to get back on the trail before becoming cliffed out.
While either descending and climbing, the loose rock may fall from higher up on the trail as people are scrambling, be cautious and courteous to other hikers.
This is a hard and technical hike and users suggest not attempting this without proper hiking boots with ankle support, poles, and helmet. Please keep dogs on leash at all times as there is a lot of loose falling rock and wildlife (bighorn sheep) on the trail.
There are limited parking spots at the trailhead - if full, please park at the Ha Ling parking lot one minute down the road on 742.

Romans 1:20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
