I have been trying to learn about airtable and always come back to your videos. Your explanations are so clear and to the point and you have a welcoming, calm and positive energy. Keep smiling and shining! Thank you!
I came here because I'm considering Airtable versus Caspio. As a fan of communication, I just want to say Wow! Very clear, concise and helpful! Thanks. I subscribed to your channel and used the link to create an account on Airtable.
I have a degree in music education, and I had to take some time off for health issues, and am doing some volunteer advocacy work to get back into things, where I found this….and a video done by a music teacher about it…and it’s weirdly full circle 😂
I have been looking for a piece of software like this for many years. I watched this video use the link below and I've spent the last four hours absolutely blown away at how good the software is. I've gotta give it to Dan above that watched all of his video from start to finish, because it was so to point on exactly what this software does I'm really looking forward to going on with it and I'm going to try to reach out to Dan to see if I can employ him to help me over the last few hours I've come along way, but I've now realised that I can do so much more with this and actually it looks like a very competitively priced piece of software so thank you very much Diane. Speak soon.
I googled "does airtable require internet access, and does it store your data in the cloud", and the answer seemed to be yes to both. In that case, I want to know how my data is encrypted (it probably isn't when resting, but perhaps it is while in transit) and whether anyone at airtable's HQ can see my data without encryption (most likely they can.) I am not eager to use any software, no matter how good, with little or no privacy. For some people, privacy isn't important, and that's okay for them. But I want my data secure and private, and I want to know exactly what data about me is being sent back to corporate HQ and how my data is being shared with third parties. If this software was available on the Apple Store, they would have to provide a detailed Privacy Statement, but it's not there, so I have no idea what data they are taking from me.
Hi! Thanks for this presentation! Would you recommend Airtable in regards to Smartsheet? What are the main differencies between the 2 ? Do you have insights on the pricing model of Airtable ? does it work with add-ons / premium apps like Smartsheet to get the full potential of the product ? thanks a lot for your feedback !
I'd like to do a full video comparison in the next month or so between the two tools. Smartsheet is going to attract the finance crowd (who wants more spreadsheet functionality) and the older school project management teams who want something that feels like MS Project. But for most companies, they're better off with a database tool like Airtable, linking together companies, people, orders, projects, tasks, etc. It's definitely more robust in terms of developing your own processes and applications. In terms of pricing, Smartsheet appears cheaper on paper, until you realize you pretty much have to use their expensive addons. Airtable is a higher sticker price per user, but no additional addons (though you may want to use it with an ipaas tool like Zapier or Make)
@@danleeman Thanks a lot for the detailed answer, this is very helpful. Despite the overall design and presentation, the pricing is indeed a big pain point regarding smarthseet when you want to go with premium apps. Thanks a lot again!
Airtable sounds cool. I'm a front-end developer who's been looking for ways to store or at least read data directly from a database (not thru self created servers). Heard of Google app script(GAS) and google sheet and was wowed by the combo. With GAS, you handle requests like you would on a server, giving you the possibility to validate and even authenticate requests like in a typical server. I really loved it, but curse CORS, such a fine concept all in vain. All post requests are blocked by CORS. So am out here again, looking for free ways to capture data from a website into a database without going thru a server. Airtable may just be the thing. I'm heading to try it. If I could thank you in tongues I would. I more than appreciate this stream of infos on airtable. Again, thank you very 🙏
I heard about this today at this volunteer thing I’m doing for an advocacy group, and I was like OH MY GOD I NEED TO TELL EVERY NEURODIVERGENT PERSON I KNOW. Drudgery work and copying and pasting kills my soul lmao
Great video, Dan. I'm using Jotform but am having issues trying to show or hide non-input fields (such as paragraphs) in the PDF attachment that is emailed to customers upon submit. Today, I've just discovered that Airtable can push and pull data to and from Jotform, but is Airtable able to condition form data to "show and hide fields" in the PDF email attachment in Jotform? Or does Airtable have their own solution?
No, I wouldn't typically categorize it as a digital twin since it wouldn't have the analysis and simulation capabilities. But it can be used to track things digitally, such as inventory management
can airtable be used to make bookings for a webshop? or restaurants buys and sales discarded and employee checks? to have a better view on it? currently using excel
Yep! Might take a bit of testing to get it set up exactly the way you want it, but I don't see why these use cases couldn't be handled in Airtable. Most spreadsheet use cases translate well to Airtable, with a few exceptions around ad hoc data and financial reporting
Hi Dan. I need a place to log residual payments from acting. So -a place to log project names, fees, dates, commission payments, etc. I’m not a tech person though. Do you think Airtable is for me?
Hi Dan, I'm really interested about your use of air table as a teacher, lending instruments to pupils and so on, as I am looking for a solution for an instrument maker to keep track of instrument loans and also to be able to deal with repairs tracking and sales. Do you think Airtable is a good fit for this kind of application? PS: We have an MS Access DB doing all that at the moment but it is really clunky, as it is a 30 year old technology...
Yes! Airtable or SmartSuite would both be amazing solutions! I know teachers don't have budget, so no worries there :) but I'd be happy to chat for 30min if you want to reach out on my website
Nope :) Good questions though. No code is a different kind of beast. Want to do reporting? Use their charts & interfaces or pull data via their API. No SQL access. Want to make a frontend application? You can build your own and pull data from the API, but there are also many tools available like Softr that integrate directly.
I want to qicky build portfolio website using airtable. Can u create one video on this. Secondly If I want to use airtable platform as service (on AWS, AZURE, GCP) how to I go about it
Hi Srinivasa! Typically you would need a front-end tool (like Softr) in order to pull data from the Airtable database to present on a public-facing website. I do plan to release content on this, but it won't be for a while. Airtable is only available as a hosted SAAS. If you need to self-host or host in a different cloud, you might want to check out some Airtable Alternatives: th-cam.com/video/TTvyMWu9BKw/w-d-xo.html which include some open source options.
@@danleeman looking for no code platform for creating portfolio websites for personal needs where the content is dynamic- fetching from database, let me know if you have any suggestions for me
@@SrinivasaRaoGurram I'm using Typedream right now which can pull from Notion as a backend for DB. They're a little up and coming but have a great team and you can ask them questions in a Slack community
Some similarities, if anything, Notion is trying to be more like Airtable. Notion is much better at anything document-oriented. Airtable is much better at scalable databases.
I am kind of fascinated by Airtable. But If I want to implement it in a company, where there are around 14 employees who will feed in data every day, is Airtable going to help me, and how can I nullify the wrong entry done by any of the 14 employees.? Do let me know.
If you're quite concerned about data quality, you might be better served by SmartSuite's more granular permissions. But with Airtable, you are able to create custom interfaces and view a history of what data has changed in your record
Good question. Airtable is only cloud hosted on their own servers. There are other open source options like Baserow available, or you could use a tool like Retool to plug into an existing DB you have and build a UI on top of it quite easily
Best explanation on youtube for anyone who hears about Airtable for the first time.

Haven't done a lot with Framer, but plenty of people use AT as the backend database as long as the frontend can consume data via API
