      Leto Atreides OP Ivy shouldn’t be on this list, because Rancid may as well be the same band. Same reason, much as I love Joy Division, the existence of New Order should keep them off of a list like this

      We can definitely say the same thing about alcohol, but not necessarily in a totally negative way. There have been a lot of great songs written about addiction and getting/staying sober to both, and there have been a lot of great songs written while high/drunk on both. And, so, we can't leave LSD out of this discussion either, and except for some not so great music and not so great fashion choices because of it, I would say LSD had a profound and positive impact on music. So, yes, some very good music came from that. Music about surviving addiction, getting clean and staying clean, as well as the music written while in hell from withdrawal and the music that was written while "in Heaven".

    • @biloxielizabeth6291

      Andrew, exactly. You can even break that down into within seconds. Feeling like you WANT to be dead because you're hurting so badly, not just physically but emotionally, as well, and in a few short seconds after the plunger has pushed in "The Nectar of the Gods", the warm embrace of Heaven has wrapped its arms around you.

      Shane Hennenhoefer No, I meant Audiovent. But Audioslave were awesome too!

    • @TheMNeko
      @TheMNeko 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree I love me some RATM. But we all know this is way too short of a list to encompass every great band with less than 4 albums. I mean that's why there are so many. It takes extremely talented musicians to put out consistently innovative and quality music. Radiohead is one of those few bands and as much as I love their music they'd have trouble making a spoken word aggressive noise rock album like Slint did for two records. That's what made their albums so great is its such a different approach that wouldn't stay that way if they continued and had influenced others. Where as putting Nirvana on this list I thought was in poor taste because they came from a scene where a multitude of other bands sounded similar. Nirvana just came at right time and even a Brit-pop band (Blur's "Song 2") was getting a slice of grunge pie. And I fucking love Nirvana like I'm a real fan. I listen to "Bleach" all the time as well as their later records, but that being said I felt like they were too popular during and after their time to be a "short-lived band". And they weren't doing something too new. Minor Threat introduced a lifestyle to a scene Nirvana exemplified one. Finally Jimi Hendrix shouldn't be on this list either to save room for short lived "bands" not artists. The Jimi Hendrix Experience is famous for Jimi Hendrix playing like Jimi Hendrix not because of the Experience's killer basslines or drum fills or some shite like that. Take Nirvana as an example for this Cobain's playing was a big part of the sound but my god David Grohl's thrashing rhythms and Noveslic's licks add so much. Imagine muting everything but the guitars for both Hendrix and Nirvana and tell me which would be more lacking. They needed to think more about their own title before making this list.

    Buffalo Springfield deserves to be very high on this list. Their legacy is very deep considering they were only around from 1966-1968. Their song, “For What It’s Worth” climbed to number 7 on the Hot 100 in 1967. And the band was a launching pad for the much bigger careers of two of their members, Neil Young and Steven Stills.

      I think that they have limited (with a few exceptions) to groups that they are familiar with. I don't get how all of you don't get the pure genius that is Joy Division! The way Ian Curtis poured his heart out in every line of his lyrics, the way that Peter Hook played the bass... It was brilliant! They were so good that even after the loss of Ian (one of he key pillars of the band) they reformed to create New Order one of the best bands in the history of music! So, in this modern day and age, we should celebrate Joy Division and their achievements as well as mourn and think what would have been if they would have gone on that tour.

      +Jamie Lawson I saw TMV live and they did an incredible job, all those complicated compositions sounded amazing. For my two cents I couldn't get into ATDI, but TMV is one of my favorite bands

      ATDI is back with a new tour. I really like TMV and ATDI, but TMV is my favorite. Amputechture, The Bedlam In Goliath and Deloused In The Comatorium are fantastic albums!

    Sex pistols are a London band not Manchester you need to check some facts before you broadcast and there weren't many punk bands from Manchester anyway

    Temple of the Dog?

      @assmane999 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +MorrisKombat They said they weren't including any bands that were composed of musicians from other famous bands (supergroups). Temple of the Dog was made up of members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, I believe.

    • @MorrisKombat

      But that was before either band

    • @assmane999
      @assmane999 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** Not true. Soundgarden formed in 1984, and Chris Cornell (the lead singer of Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog) formed Temple of the Dog in 1990 as a tribute to his friend who had just died, who was the lead singer of Mother Love Bone. Cornell had just gotten back from tour with Soundgarden when the guy overdosed on heroin. Pearl Jam also formed in 1990, but because Chris already was a part of an established band, Temple of the Dog wouldn't qualify for this list based on their restrictions regarding bands formed from members of other bands.

      @@hardluckwoman3448 I saw them on each tour of their 3 album career. Literally cried when I went on their website the day they announced they were splitting. They had one of the best websites, btw. Each album was different from the last but was still them. Circles was a great song, but definitely written as a "commercial" song.
