  • Unfortunatly, this video wasn't designed as a tutorial, but it is Soooo Cool to watch! 4 hours of decorating condensed to 14 minutes of video Whew! This cake is done with the oriental stringwork technique using royal icing. It's an elegant, yet slightly eerie gravesite theme, with spider web-like stringwork down the sides of the cake. Happy Decorating!!!

    Part of me wants to try this so bad for my sisters shower cake... but my lack of patience and high anger will probably not let it happen lol oh how jealous I am of this gorgeous talent

    Thank you so much! Very inspirational. How long do you have to wait before you flip the cake in one direction or another. Also, do you cover the bottom with fondant using the patchwork method?

    • @auntiescakery
      @auntiescakery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Pleasure! The icing dries pretty quickly, so I don't need to wait long. As soon as I'm done with the row, the first strings are already dry. I'd say about 10 minutes. I cover the cake with one large piece of fondant. Did that answer your question?

    • @thomasszymanski1107
      @thomasszymanski1107 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@auntiescakery Yes and THANK YOU. Smart stuff BTW. So, you roll a big piece that will come together in the center on the "bottom." No patching work. :). Thanks for sharing! Is transportation troublesome?

    How do you get your icing so black? The best I can get dark gray! Does it stain people's teeth? Does it affect the taste?

    • @auntiescakery
      @auntiescakery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heather, Thanks for asking! I start with homemade marshmallow fondant, then, I mix it 50/50 with BLACK store bought fondant, and add black food coloring until it returns to a nice dark black. I use home made and store bought because If I use a full jar of black food color on homemade alone, It ruins the consistency of the fondant and I end up with a mess. So, I mix with a pre-colored fondant to reduce the cost (Store bought fondant = $$$). Yes, it stains teeth...The Kids LOVE it!! Yes, it affects the taste, unfortunately.

      @@auntiescakery What about the frosting?

    • @auntiescakery
      @auntiescakery  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, The Royal Icing. Sorry I misunderstood your first question LOL! I have never been able to get buttercream a nice black, Royal Icing, however, is much easier! I just added black food color until the icing was a dark dark gray, then, as the icing dries, it hardens, AND darkens. Hope that helps.

      @auntiescakery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm just seeing this comment! SO sorry It took me sooooo long to respond Mariel Button! Thank you. After years of experience, I know that the icing curls when coming out of the tip IF the tip hasn't been cleaned off, and there is a bit of drying icing on it, OR there is a chip in the nozzle, even if there is a seam in the nozzle. Are you still decorating?

I look forward to trying it, but seriously for your first cake, it definitely didn't look like it! I can't wait to see more work from you. I intend on starting a channel myself in January, just doing final touches on a few videos but Id love to do a collab. :D
