Down the umbilicus is very long. Most books just say up to the xiphoid process.

A cloth tape is my choice to secure the NG tube with the nose! This is only from my experience!

I thought the measurement should be until xipoid process not umbilical..

Always follow your facilities protocol, but the method of measuring from the nose, to the earlobe, to a point midway between the xiphoid process and the umbilicus presents the best evidence for correct placement.

Our instructor discussed this, as if you stop at the Xiphoid process without advancing slightly further, you risk not being in far enough. As you can see from the visual provided in the video, this makes sense.

Reaching as far to the umbilical is too much, it should be just around the xiphoid process.

I would have wanted to see sterility of the procedure but otherwise good job

Insertion of a nasogastric tube is a clean procedure (not sterile), so the nurse must wash their hands and put on clean gloves before the procedure.

@@nursingandnclexmastery , in addition to it being a clean procedure, the nasal passage is not sterile. It's the person own germs, but it's not clean.

@@aadam722 and the stomach has a very low pH due to hydrochloric acid - it is not a sterile procedure
