At the end of the insertion, before you inflate the balloon, you take your non-dominant hand and held the tube breaking the sterile field. In some cases, if the balloon doesn't inflate or is hurting the patient; we would then insert another inch or two. we do not want to touch anything with our non-dominant hand because it's considered dirty.

I also didn't hear her say to anchor the balloon. Maybe I missed her saying it.

She said another inch in, but I was taught another 1-2 inches and then pull back gently. Once you inflate and pull gently back after that your fine with the non sterile field.. The most concerning thing is she never pulled back to see if it was in place.

@@savannahdennis9351 if I am getting a Foley Catheter inserted, and two male nurses tell me that they are going to insert my Foley Catheter, can I tell them that, "I am not trying to be rude, but can I have 2 female nurses insert my Foley Catheter instead? Thanks, as I am really nervous about having this procedure done on me, and by having 2 females insert my Foley Catheter, I will feel less nervous about the procedure. I hope you understand, but I only trust female nurses, and doctors." I am a male who has Autism.

omg the gown clamp, nobody told me at the hospital. And they sent me home with my Cathy still inside. Today Cathy decided to come free from the STATLOCK Foley Stabilization Device, OMG nobody told me about all this fun, how once Cathy flees the clamp you can't get it back inside & clamped again. So many important details not disclosed.

As a nurse for 23 yrs I’ve NEVER prefilled a balloon… and I’ve never had any issues.

Since when isn't the balloon checked before insertion? Is this a new process? Why wouldn't you check the balloon??? It could be faulty.

Balloons should not be pretested when using silicone catheters. Pretesting can cause creasing at the base of the balloon. This can traumatize the urethra on insertion or make the catheter more difficult to remove.

I’ve been a nurse for 23 years and I’ve never checked the balloon before hand… that’s just ridiculous and an unnecessary step.

Here we go again another mannequin why don't you use a real life person so they can tell you how much it hurts

It's humiliating and invasive. Do you really want a young male nurse assisting? I sure as hell don't. 😣😣😣😣😠😠😠
