    Cool truck. I inherited a green 1972 Blazer from my dad. It had 84,000 miles. 350, 4 speed, NP 205 transfer case. It's lived a very sheltered life. I started to cut it up and make a trail rig out of it about 20 years ago. Now I'm glad I didn't. It's over 100,000 miles now but still in excellent unrestored shape. I've already promised it to my 10 year old as her first ride.

      I had one just like this years ago. Where I live in Colorado the designation on the registration was "UT". It stood for "Utility Truck". Mine was a different more olive green, I called it Godzilla because it was big, green and mean. I miss it very much.
      Also, Hoovie failed to mention that this is a CST ("Custom Super Truck"). That designation was for a certain option package, much like the "SS" designation on Chevelles, Novas and Camaros.

      @Skinflaps_Meatslapper 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theinsaneshecklador6598 It certainly could, really just depends on whether the door feels loose when you try to lift it up. I've had one where the pin wasn't the problem, but the hole that the pin went into. I just had a local machine shop press a silicon bronze bushing in and it opens smoother than ever. A lot of misalignment issues are caused by hinge bolts getting loose (or making a habit of hanging on the door while it's open), sometimes gradual wear on the pins, but unless they're really worn out, they can usually be rectified by a small adjustment.

    • @theinsaneshecklador6598
      @theinsaneshecklador6598 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Skinflaps_Meatslapper Yeah, the pins usually wallow out the hole more than they wear the pins. The new pin kits include the bushings. I've done a number of them over the years. This generation of Chevy trucks seem to have that issue quite often.
      Looking at some of the other stuff on this truck I'm guessing it was slapped together pretty quickly to flip.

    Hoovey! Wizzard! Check that frame behind the steering gear box!!!!! They often crack there and need a brace and stiffining plate welded in. You have to take the gear box loose to see the cracks at the bolt holes, and with it on the ground turning the wheel left to right, if that driver side frame twists a bit then check the rivets at the cross member for being loose. They also wear those rivets at the cross member to the frame.
    This comes from years of experience working and building 67-87 C10 and K5 blazers.

Yes the truck rattled, leaked and rode like the axles were bolted directly to the chassis. BUT it went everywhere, off road, that I pointed it. I had a twenty year love/hate relationship with my Jimmy. I still kind of miss it . . . but then maybe not. Looks nice but makes a guy wonder about the quality of everything that can't be seen when they do crap work on other parts, simple things like the dust cover on the trans, the bolts and chunks of the old one are still there, and the trans was obviously painted and painted right over the bolts with pieces of the dust shield still under each of them. Transfer case gaskets and leaks, come on, even someone doing this work in their driveway can get that right. And that alternator, was that pulled off another piece of junk last minute and tossed on?? A run to the parts store for a reman GM alternator to put at least a newish looking one on instead of what looks like a backyard junkyard pull on it would have been the least bit of effort. Front main seal on the engine makes me wonder how much time and effort was put into the engine as well, was it fully rebuilt or just cleaned and painted and craigslist resto'd with some gaskets and spray paint. For what i am sure they overpayed for this, having to spend a few grand to get everything right as Hoovie said is utterly ridiculous. Nice vehicle yes, but makes you wonder what horrors lie beneath now, i would be checking for body filler and patches and other unsafe barn fixes.

      As the prices begin to rise you’ll see more unscrupulous dirtbags trying to slap something together well enough to go across the block or sell on the internet. They’ll get their 5 to 6 figures for a pig with lipstick on and some poor schmuck will be stuck spending another few thousand to unbooger someone’s booger. As the prices rise ever higher you can be assured that when they eventually reach critical mass the crash will be hard. I watched exotics reach insane numbers in the 1980s ( no doubt fueled by both cocaine binges pastel suits) I watched the muscle cars rise with the dot com boom. And I’ve seen trucks and SUVs rise to dizzying prices. Exotic car prices after the first big recession of the 1980s fell harder then a tweaker running out of cocaine. The muscle car prices plummeted as thousands that were getting 4 to 500k were being dumped on the market as now penniless dot com ex millionaires were desperately trying to keep their homes. Trucks will eventually fall just as hard, now the rare cars will always find a market, but if you think your 1982 Chevy corvette is worth something cause allegedly prince once owned it then your in for a lesson in hard economics. Ultimately something is worth what someone will pay, and auction companies specialize in overpricing shiny horse turds

It was THE 1979 Blazer that I sold 20 years ago this September when I moved to Japan after 9/11. It had the same “Romulan Military Academy” sticker that I put on the back glass. It was a three on the tree straight 6 two wheel drive. So, yes… I bought it! 😢Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for me to jam up the shifter and it’s been sitting for half a year. I just made some progress but it also reminds me of what it felt like when I had no money and car problems. It’s a strange world indeed.

      I'd be in the exact same position had I not been way too nostalgic to sell mine. 15 years ago I was completely broke and someone offered me $30K cash for it. I considered it about as long as it took him to finish his sentence before I declined the offer. The way I saw it, even beyond nostalgia, if it's worth $30K right now it's going to be worth twice that much at least in a decade or two, and I'll never be able to justify that price tag. Turns out my suspicion was pretty much spot on, and I find it very unfortunate. I don't really care what my blazer is worth because it'll never get sold, so having a $70K vehicle means nothing to me. What it does mean is that simple replacement parts are going to be ridiculously costly because of the restoration gold rush going on, and if something gets damaged it might prove too costly to drive someday...and that's not something I'm okay with.

    Dude I wish cars could have color again. I use to have a 79 coupe Deville. Mint green outside with the white top, forest green velour interior with the fake burlwood trim. That Blazer is making me miss it.

    Looks like a Billy Bob restoration, especially on the driveline.

      What exactly us a “Billy Bob restoration”? …one which failed to include a crucial part like a dust cover on the transmission? I must admit, I haven’t really watched all of the video. Just enough to see that a few things seemed at first glance to be sadly typical of many Resto’s these days, like the poorly aligned body panels and details like the shock on the rear glass… That’s obviously not something one should see on a vehicle that pushes six figures on the price tag. But it didn’t give the impression of being a turn shine throw-together death trap that is meant to take advantage of the all-too-common fake enthusiast with more dollars than sense.
