It’s because Tom showed Dumbledore his deviant side too soon. He learnt from his mistake with Dumbledore though, he was more careful and never revealed his true nature to anyone else.
I also think that another reason Helena chose to come back as a ghost, was because she was too embarrassed to face her mother. Like you said,Rowena never admitted that Helena stole it, and even wanting to see Helena before she died, made Helena feel bad for everything she did to her mother.

It's so cool and curious how in the first film, we see the ghosts as just a playful fun group of background characters in the movie. But as the books progress, we see more seriousness and the depth of story behind them.

For Harry's generation, there's no reason not to call in Scotland. But Helena lived during the time where Scotland was called Albania, so she keeps referring to it that way.

When I first read of The Grey Lady's story, I felt pretty bad for her. However, hearing it made a difference. I think of her as pretty selfish now and not at all cunning. Stealing the diadem would never have helped her to begin with, she stole her mother's work rather than make something of her own. Even if she did have the higher intelligence due to the diadem, anything she did with that enhancement would always be credited to her mother. She *might* think she's cunning now as a ghost for figuring out how to live longer than her mother, but it isn't really living. For me, I simply see someone who is stuck forever never admitting their own shortcomings and jealousy.

I feel like a better way to create tension between Helena and Rowena would be to have her be sorted into another house. Rowena would be upset that her daughter didn't follow the path set out for her, and Helena would see her mother less and less like she did throughout childhood. Maybe Slytherin because she was cunning enough to steal knowledge from her mother when leaving, and to give her enough time to be annoyed by the baron's attempts at wooing her. After dying, Helena would be tied to Ravenclaw house, and would stay under her mother's shadow like she was hoping not to.
I don't like Helena. I understood to a certain degree why she did what she did but she compared herself to her mother too much instead of standing on her own and making a name for herself by her own merits.
If they were ghosts, Harry would still go the same path, just less depressed. Ghosts can't take care of a 1 year old baby. He'd have to go to his aunt and uncle anyway. Harry's aunt and uncle wouldn't ever let Harry meet them. That's my theory

A very minor if crucial character. JK made such an amazing backstory for a lot of her characters, Sirius, Dumbeldore, people like Snape, Draco and even minor ones like Helena. She used to be good till she shits on her own franchaise.
Nearly Headless Nick states in book 5 that after you die, you have the choice of going on or becoming a ghost, but Voldemort didn’t have that choice because his soul was too maimed. When Harry and Dumbledore are in Harry’s mind version of King’s Cross, they come across a small part of Voldemort’s soul (the one that was inside Harry) and Dumbledore comments that it is beyond either of their help. That piece of soul isn’t whole enough to ‘go on’ or return. This little piece is equivalent to the part of Voldemort’s soul that was finally killed at the end of Deathly Hallows, which is also then stuck in limbo forever without the choice of ‘going on’ or returning as a ghost.

Just a question, you said in your video that Helena told Harry who she was and made him promise to never tell anyone of her identity,but in the movie, when Harry called out the name "grey lady", she said she didn't respond to that name. Why?
Think the reason the Baron came back is because he felt he did not pay enough for what he had done, Nick mentions he is always carrying chains, so maybe he decided to come back just to continue giving penance to his mistakes.

They just take any short cut that may take them closer to their goals. Slytherin aren't evil - they love to reach their goals by any means which makes them choose unusual paths which are evil sometimes. • A Ravenclaw is, on the other hand , the most balanced person, who can have multiple goals. They prioritize their goals in order of importance , and then figure out how to reach each each of those. • A Slytherin takes the first available opportunity, but ravenclaw waits until multiple opportunities come to him/her and then she decides what's best.
This story is so interesting, I love the whole idea of like running away from your problems to fights with the mother trying to get out of a family Shadow it's just incredible you can tell how much creativity JK Rowling put into this character

Helena Ravenclaw is one of the biggest bums in the series. In the books, Dumbledore figures out that Harry and Nagini are horcruxes. Based on the memory of Hepzibah Smith and his knowledge of Voldemort's nature, he realizes that the locket of Slytherin and the cup of Hufflepuff are probably also horcruxes. He guesses that Voldemort would want to make horcruxes using items from Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. He knows that Gryffindor's sword was not one, so he thinks that Voldemort probably turned an item of Ravenclaw's into a horcrux. But he didn't know what it was, and it was the only horcrux he didn't figure out. Turns out, it's all because Helena was too embarrassed to tell anyone 🤡🤦♂
I wonder what Snape chose to do after he died? Do we know if he chose to cross over to the afterlife, or did he remain in the mortal realm as a ghost? When I first read of The Grey Lady's story, I felt pretty bad for her. However, hearing it made a difference. I think of her as pretty selfish now and not at all cunning. Stealing the diadem would never have helped her to begin with, she stole her mother's work rather than make something of her own. Even if she did have the higher intelligence due to the diadem, anything she did with that enhancement would always be credited to her mother. She *might* think she's cunning now as a ghost for figuring out how to live longer than her mother, but it isn't really living. For me, I simply see someone who is stuck forever never admitting their own shortcomings and jealousy.

I feel like a better way to create tension between Helena and Rowena would be to have her be sorted into another house. Rowena would be upset that her daughter didn't follow the path set out for her, and Helena would see her mother less and less like she did throughout childhood. Maybe Slytherin because she was cunning enough to steal knowledge from her mother when leaving, and to give her enough time to be annoyed by the baron's attempts at wooing her. After dying, Helena would be tied to Ravenclaw house, and would stay under her mother's shadow like she was hoping not to.

Nearly Headless Nick states in book 5 that after you die, you have the choice of going on or becoming a ghost, but Voldemort didn’t have that choice because his soul was too maimed. When Harry and Dumbledore are in Harry’s mind version of King’s Cross, they come across a small part of Voldemort’s soul (the one that was inside Harry) and Dumbledore comments that it is beyond either of their help. That piece of soul isn’t whole enough to ‘go on’ or return. This little piece is equivalent to the part of Voldemort’s soul that was finally killed at the end of Deathly Hallows, which is also then stuck in limbo forever without the choice of ‘going on’ or returning as a ghost.

Helena Ravenclaw is one of the biggest bums in the series. In the books, Dumbledore figures out that Harry and Nagini are horcruxes. Based on the memory of Hepzibah Smith and his knowledge of Voldemort's nature, he realizes that the locket of Slytherin and the cup of Hufflepuff are probably also horcruxes. He guesses that Voldemort would want to make horcruxes using items from Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. He knows that Gryffindor's sword was not one, so he thinks that Voldemort probably turned an item of Ravenclaw's into a horcrux.
