    Good! you explained the difference between translation and interpretation. Many people don't know it. There are also trainings for specific areas. For example in the health (which is mine area) and the law sector. The terminology is very technical. I use to be a sign language interpreter as well in my church. 😊 But now I do it for patients and colleagues in the hospital. Good video!

      Hey man! Aspiring English / Spanish interpreter here. What would you say is the best path to becoming an interpreter? I speak Spanish at a conversational level, so obviously the first step is to learn it in fluency. But how did you persianlly get into this career, and what types of situations and fields do you primarily interpret? Thanks!

I appreciate your words and wisdom on the subject. The problem with translating to Spanish is that there are so many types of Spanish from Mexico Spanish to Spain Spanish to Caribbean Spanish to Argentinian Spanish, etc etc. How do you go about working around that?

    • @MAAU-tz1yc
      @MAAU-tz1yc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with English is that you guys use too many things that might go from using animals, food or objects as verbs to using phrases that are hard to compare to Spanish, I get your concern tho, Spanish varies from each country.

    I speak English and Spanish fluently BUT I struggle a lot when I try to translate texts, phrases, words etc English to Spanish or Spanish to English, Because when I speak English I'm not translating in my head I just speak and viceversa, And I think that's why I struggle with it a lot, For me being a good translator means a lot, Because I've been in difficult situations, Like when my friend from Chile tried to say something to my other friend from California but he couldn't cuz he has a basic level of English so he asked me to translate it for him and I was like "I have no idea", I hope I'm not the only one, But I want to be able to translate more accurately.
    Another struggle is with the MOODS, For example Spanish is my native language and the subjunctive mood is way harder in Spanish, And because in English sometimes you can just use the indicative to express what you want instead of the subjunctive cuz it sounds more natural that's what trips me up a lot, Ex. Me alegra que ESTES aqui, So in this examples the verb ESTAR is conjugated but in English you don't have to do that(Well sometimes) because you use have to use the infinitive, I'm happy that you're here, So here these two PHRASES are really hard to translate, Because in English you only have the verb TO BE but in Spanish there are two SER and ESTAR, So in the Spanish version you use the verb ESTAR not SER and in English you only use TO BE but I don't know, Let me think of something harder, Ex. Quizas LOGREMOS(Future subjunctive) un mejor resultado esta vez, Now let me try to translate that off the top of my head to English,Translation: Maybe we'll achieve a better result this time, So you see I rarely use the subjunctive in English what I can express with the SUBJUNCTIVE in Spanish I can either express it with the indicative in English or in the subjunctive too but that's a little bit harder, I dare to say that the subjunctive is slowly falling out of use(well there are some phrases in the subjunctive, like SO BE IT etc) if I'm mistaken I'm open for correction, I say this because I've never heard anyone say, I advice he DRINK water, No it sounds just not good it sounds robotic, So the more natural way would be '' Tell him to drink more water'' If you're saying someone to say it to him, I don't know there are things I really need to practice in both languages, For me this is so important because I need both languages to live and I can just get rid of English or Spanish, They're part of my life.
    EDIT: Translation is my passion is something that without having experience I can tell I love it, Because the thought of having the ability to unite people from different backgrounds and cultures through translation and man I just love it

    Do not become an interpreter. It's one of the worse jobs ever. Very stressful, low pay job. They put you in front of a computer, with a headphone and make you do interpretation, no stop, for hours. You will have terrible headaches, dizziness and you will end up losing your ability to hear well. Terrible job.
