This program won "Best Vocal Recital" and "Best Chamber Music Concert" in the Bay Area Audience Choice Awards, 2020.
Barbara Strozzi was one of the finest composers of the 17th century, her work embodies a wide ranging, vituosic style that melds word painting, ritornello techniques, motivic development and balanced harmonic structures. In her scared song, "O Maria", the invocational ritornello acts as a litany leavened with contrasting and passionate devotional scenes.

Barbara Strozzi, née le 6 août 1619 à Venise et morte le 11 novembre 1677 à Padoue, est une cantatrice et compositrice italienne. Elle est, avec Francesca Caccini et Antonia Bembo, l'une des principales compositrices italiennes du XVIIᵉ siècle. Elle est aussi la première compositrice professionnelle.
Sophie Junker, née en 1985 à Dison, est une soprano franco-belge, spécialiste de la musique baroque et en particulier la musique de Georg Friedrich Haendel.
Marvelous performance of a beautiful piece. Strozzi is just recently beginning to get the appreciation that she deserves. A really fine composer.
