Magnifica! Passione, struggimento, dolore vengono interpretati egregiamente.
Brava! first time! Another great baroque Voice! Shes got that particular Sound in her voice! that only can be developed by singing always Baroque and Renescence music!
" Les chants désespérés sont les chants les plus beaux, (mais le souffle du mot "vivre" s'insinue dans ce flow), une interprétation d'une grande élégance, subtil équilibre entre vitalité et fragilité, somptueux

Caro Jenaro Argente: Hello! She was a Woman... That´s explained all, don´t you think... Today, you know the infinite great and the infinite small and women are still disrepected and ill-treated... think what hapenned at the XVII century ?!... Stay Well.
I agree completly with tou. We must change the world, the mentalities... BUT HOW? Perhaps with people like you there are HOPE!... BE HAPPY and STAY WELL.
What can one do if the rebel stars have no pity; what can be done if heaven has no peaceful influence to soothe my sorrows; what can one say from the stars disasters rain upon me at all hours; what can be said if perfidious love denies the slightest repose to my martyrdom; what can be said?
Pffft most of the "prejudice" was nakedly vertical, not horizontal. Just imagine what this composer thought of commoners, or foreigners if you prefer. The poor dear! Yet another victim-hero whose merit and memory we must now stain with vapid political conceits.
What can one do if the rebel stars have no pity; what can be done if heaven has no peaceful influence to soothe my sorrows; what can one say from the stars disasters rain upon me at all hours; what can be said if perfidious love denies the slightest repose to my martyrdom; what can be said? That is how it goes with perverse destiny, that condemns the innocent, so too constancy that most trusted gold and, oh, it nonetheless need be purified at every hour by the flames of my sorrows.

What can you do? The stars, intractable, have no pity. Since the gods don't give a measure of peace in my suffering, what can I do? What can you say? From the heavens disasters keep raining down on me; Since that treacherous Cupid denies respite to my torture, what can I say? That's how it is with cruel destiny the powerful tyrant, it condemns the innocent: thus the purest gold of constancy and faithfulness, alas, is continually refined in the fire of pain.

Does anyone know where I can find a score for this piece? I can't seem to find it anywhere, not even on Classical Vocal Reprints. I found one online that will work for just voice and piano, but it is missing certain instrumental sections that I think give this piece so much of its life, and I would really like to perform it with all those components included. I would be greatly appreciative if someone could point me in the right direction. Thank you!
+chch Some work is needed... white mensural notation isn't easy for everyone. Besides, these guys made very long and beautiful instrumental sections between each "Che si puo fare".
I agree, it isn't easy for everyone to read, and there was some arranging done for the recording, but if you have a good theorbo player, lutist, or harpsichordist, they might be able to work through it.

What a wonderful voice and I love the music.
One of the most passionate songs of all times...
tensione drammatica altissima, impressione di dolore e disperazione..molto bello. Bravissima anche l'interprete. Una scoperta !
Haunting. But, you know, in a beautiful way. Which is just how I love my music.
Has a strange effect, difficult to describe. Makes me feel anxious but I can't stop listening...
Love it! Makes me cry from beginning to end!
I never tire of listening to Flores or, indeed, Strozzi.
Merveilleux extraordinaire, merci merci merci
Listening to this music is like traveling beyond the stars.
Absolute divine voice

This song was recommended to me by a friend, thank you for putting this video up.
J'ADORE !
The melody just creeps up behind u and then Mariana's mystical n commanding voice is so alluring, dark n eerie but WOW que voz de mujer BRAVO!👏🏼
Espeluznante. Sobrecogedora la voz de Mariana.
Magnifica voce! Magnifica interpretazione! Ho visto Mariana in concerto il 5 settembre scorso, a Venezia; è stata superba. Un grande avvenire davanti a lei!!
Great woman Barbara Strozzi! Nice performance, thanks for sharing!
So beautifully nuanced. Incredibly subtle and beautiful rendition of such a beautiful piece. Brava!

Che passions!Che struggimento!Bucolico dire!

Caro Jenaro: by mistake I wrote " I agree completly with TOU when it must be YOU" . BYE-BYE.
it's a new to me. I've never heard about her. I'm fascinated by her art.
To her age, utter male domination of the arts, she casts this beautiful work. Inspiring to all female aspirations today.

Utterly taken by the rare and precious woman composer, one can only imagine the tsunami of prejudice she faced in 17th century Venice
Pffft most of the "prejudice" was nakedly vertical, not horizontal. Just imagine what this composer thought of commoners, or foreigners if you prefer. The poor dear! Yet another victim-hero whose merit and memory we must now stain with vapid political conceits.
Yet she was the most published musician of her time
¡Qué fuerza, por Dios! Sumamente hermoso, sumamente vital, una joya
Timeless poetry and music describing life for so many
sublime, magnifico
magnifico brano magnifica interpretazione
Just heard it on the radio, and immediately recognised a tune I'd known for years as 'Blue Spanish Sky' by Chris Issak
I also just heard it on the radio and had never heard it before. It's the most beautiful piece of music I have heard in a long time!
What can one do
if the rebel stars
have no pity;
what can be done
if heaven has
no peaceful influence

It's page 100 of the score.
