    Thanks for sharing, I am seeing the same thing with the patterns being the same. I wish they would focus on some of the patterns from the past that are great but we can get. To redo the directions. Love watching your channel, very informative, happy Sewing

    I also hope they bring Kwik Sew patterns back in digital version. They were great patterns. I agree with you on the website comments/observation/opinion. So glad you posted! Thanks for sharing.

    it looks like Déjà vu New look is the place discard patterns go... I remember way back when 80/90 they were there own style.. I still have them and they are still current in style.. Thanks for sharing.

      I have some amazing new look patterns that I will not parts ways with, the styles are so fun, modern but also casual. Something I can wear every day and look great.

    Thank you for doing this comment video on new patterns. I love this type of videos. Like you and others have said, I also see the repeats in the Butterick and New Look collection. The "new" Butterick R11737 / McCall's 2818 I put to the side to donate to a secondhand shop since I dislike the buttons on the back and think it is just too complicated (princess seams and buttons in back) for a simple top. One good thing about reissues is that you can get a "vintage" or older pattern for much less in the U.S., especially if it is on sale. Also, it will prevent me from buying more patterns 😁. I always try to shop from my extensive pattern collection first, and only buy unique patterns or styles that flatter me and I don't own.

      Wow, would you look at that. You found it! Here I am thinking it’s new!!!! I’ll be passing up on this, I don’t have the pattern but I don’t care for buttons on the back (who in the world is gonna help me buttons that after the kids are gone to school and the husband is gone for the day?!) LOL. It’s just not practical. There has to be an explanation as to why all of these patterns are total re-issues. Praying these two brands are not about to be kicked to the curb.

    Thanks for showing these and offering practical advice on not duplicating what we already have.

      Yup, just double check. As always, if you don’t have it, you don’t have it then it’s worth spending money. But if you have it…. then time to pass up on it.

    Last comment, I promise... These designers are running out of ideas. I agree with you, it is best to check one's stash before purchasing new patterns. Some are recycled styles from the 90's, and others just look like recently released patterns. Examples:
    R11737 (Palmer Pletsch) is VERY similar to M8255.
    B6933 suit set is very similar to V1870 with just a small variation on the lapel and pockets.
    B6924 very similar to M8067
    N6758 very similar to M7757, and it goes on.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well Annabelle looks like you did all the leg work for me. Yup a lot of these are reissues. Its ok. I suspect they are merging the sites and something had to give. Of course Butterick was it. Little sad about it, but what can we do.

    giving side-eye to the new look patterns. so many of them look like reissues. that button front dress looks identical to McCalls 7974 (which is still in print and is very popular, so...why???) i know i've seen several of the others as well though i can't think of the numbers right now. i would imagine if they are trying to get the new website up we probably won't see these new collections until it is launched b/c it would be a lot of work to publish them on both old and new sites.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know all about M7974 because I’ve sewn it now three times and I did a sew along for Minerva for it. So when I saw that New Look pattern… I did a side-eye too. I suspect it is because of the new website and as you said merging things.

    We get the Joann pattern sales here in New England, same as the rest of the U.S. Perhaps you meant to say England;-) I feel fortunate to be able to indulge my pattern shopping habit and wait for those sales.

    Alex, I have missed you glad you're doing well just busy and not sick. I like you see a lot of repeats I am disappointed about that, but I will be going to JoAnn's Friday to check the pattern sale I will be more selective in what I choose. Thank you for this video.

      Hi Mary!!!! Not sick at all and thankful for that. Just had all those annual medical checkups for the kids plus the dentist for them AND me. So it took forever to get thru all that. There is a sale this weekend for Vogue, Butterick and also Simplicity so for sure take some time and look at those patterns with a fine tooth combo because you might already have them.

    I laughed out loud with the sleeve comment! If the pattern companies or designers can’t make a sleeve work, then they should go back to school! I often remove the gathers and do a plain old sleeve!

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the gathered sleeve or the one that completely kills me because it looks so bad… the dropped shoulder sleeve. I realize they try to make it easy for a beginner but COME on. IF there are ten patterns, 8 have either gathers or dropped shoulder sleeve.

    • @mb5ggX2SyFMM
      @mb5ggX2SyFMM ปีที่แล้ว

      I generally will do an inverted/box pleat instead without adjusting the sleeve pattern piece.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mb5ggX2SyFMM I usually adjust the sleeve completely because dropped sleeves don’t quite look so great on me. I keep seeing all these patterns with no zippers, no buttons or set in sleeves. At some point we all have to take the training wheels off and “move on” to the next step in sewing. BUT I must say this is a great idea.

    … yes Alex , here in Canada we don’t get simplicity or new look and in some cites hard to even find McCall’s … so even though there is work involved into putting pdf’s together ., I love your advice making sure we are choosing actual patterns we really really want to invent in , an not just accumulate duplicates … always appreciate this informative videos , thank you so much 💙💙💙

      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Monica, I didn’t realize you are in Canada. I’ve heard how hard it is to find patterns by you. Yes, triple check all your patterns with these because if you read the comments you will see a LOT of these patterns are re-issues.

    Great job, Alex! I plan to do my video today. Can't wait for the website release, lol. I think the gathers on the sleeves are a compromise for those of us who have larger biceps. I agree we don't have to have gathers and puffs on all sleeves, though 😂 most of those new look patterns are repeats so I can see why the didn't advertise. 6752 is cute and can probably be turned into a swimsuit 6757 is interesting. Love that last wrap dress, but it reminds me of the Simplicity asymmetrical dress that recently dropped this year 🤔

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can’t wait for your video to really get an in-depth look, but besides the knit pattern I don’t see myself getting any of these patterns. And I’m going to double check the body suit pattern that I have to make sure its not the same.

    Some sewing patterns actually cost me 1 penny

  • @jaeninetravelclub8894
    @jaeninetravelclub8894 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I do not like PDF Patterns. Why? Don’t want to print 40 - 60 pages then paste them together. The cost is more expensive ( the PDF, ink, paper and tape). The regular patterns are great - one can always find a sale. BTW - love your channel.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have embraced the PDF patterns if its cost prohibitive to get a printed pattern to me (like getting a Tilly and the buttons pattern from the United Kingdom to me in the US) or because they will not print it for a while. 60 pages is a LOT of pages to print... I've seen up 100 and when it got to that number I said, I'll go ahead and wait for the printed version. Some times its worth it as I said in the video when I'm working on pants adjustments but for the rest... Im good with tissue. So much easier to fit too.

    It saddens me that they will be phasing out all of us thousands of paper pattern people. So many times on my phone when I look up a pattern it says PDF only and once they do the PDFs they phase out the paper. I do not have a computer or printer and will not be doing any PDF patterns

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Diane I don’t believe they are phasing out paper patterns. I surely hope not because I love a paper pattern too. They are adding in PDF patters for Out of Print patterns. Who knows what those will be but I surely hope it’s some good patterns. I will be the first one protesting out there with you if they take away paper patterns.
